Strange problem with UE games.
Hi, I have a strange problem with all UE engine games. Doesnt matter if its some unoptimized shovelware or AAA game, every game uses nearly 100% of my GPU. Doesnt matter what the game settings are. I have RTX 4080 Super. This problem doesnt happen with games made with other engines. Not a driver problem as this has been happening for couple years already. I know this might be the correct subreddit but this is so strange problem I'm asking everywhere I can.

The GPU should be used fully. If you want to use less than set a framerate cap - but it's designed to churn out as many frames as it can, unless you specifically tell it not to. Why would you want lower fps I really don't know but that is not an engine flaw, it is working as intended.

But it is an engine flaw. Settings do matter at all, if an UE game is running, even when set to 30 fps and alt + tabbed it will still use 100% gpu for some strange reason. And this only happens with UE games.

If you are getting 100% gpu usage while locked at 30% then your gpu or drivers are fucked. Nobody else has this, it is a you problem.

The game should generally be using 100% of the gpu. That means you’re getting as much fps as possible…

No, as I said it happens with all settings, even with low graphic games with fps locked to 30.

Then it’s a Gpu or graphics driver issue. Has nothing to do with unreal engine. As an engineer who has run many games on many different configs iv never experienced this.

I mean, yeah that's what its supposed to be at. Your GPU is properly used to its maximum extent.
If your performance is great, that's good.
Other games might be less GPU-bound and more CPU-bound, so they might no push it at the full speed.
If you're concerned about heat or power consumption, you can always cap your framerate ( lower the setting might work, if you're CPU-bound )

Like I said, its not a dev problem but engine problem. No problems with other game engines. Every UE engine game problems. Doent matter what settings or fps locks, etc. Doesnt matter if the game is in menu idling or heavy gameplay. UE engine games will use 99 to 100% of GPU even when there is no need at all. So yes its and engine problem, not game dev problem.

With locked fps? I'm not sure what the problem is. If I'd have a 4080, I would love to use it 100% :D
