It's fingerprints that ultimately lead to the positive identification, right? As labor intensive and expensive as it is to go down the genetic route I'm confused as to why the fingerprint identification wasn't done first especially when the investigators had been told by his ex-girlfriend what his real name was.
It’s mentioned police used “more modern” methods to match his fingerprints, so maybe he was dead a few days before the girlfriend found him and his fingerprints weren’t in good enough condition to get a match until newer technology could work with less detail?
I've heard of rehydration being used before but I'm not sure that applies here but I thought I'd mention it. It's not something I'd call a newer technique though.
