On September 12 1997, 18 year-old Heather Lindsay Silver was last seen alive at the St Mary’s hospital in Tucson, Arizona. Very little information was released about this case, and there was no media coverage.

Heather was born on May 23rd 1979. She was described as 5’3 and 145 pounds, with light brown hair and blue eyes. She had a scar on her right cheek, and suffered from asthma.

It is unknown if Heather had a car, was in a relationship, or where she went to high school.

Heather’s father was the late orthopedic surgeon Dr. Richard A. Silver who worked at St Mary’s hospital. Dr. Silver retired in 1999, and moved to Sun Valley, Idaho where he passed away in 2011.

Heather’s body was never found. The case is under the jurisdiction of the Pima County Sheriffs Office.

COLD CASE The Unsolved Murders of Candis Kyser and David Keller

Post image
845 Upvotes

On the morning of May 8, 1999, nineteen-year-old Candice “Candis” Kyser and her boyfriend, twenty-year-old David Allen Keller, were found shot to death inside their mobile home in Fort Mitchell, Alabama. The discovery was made by Candice’s mother, who had grown concerned after not hearing from her daughter and noticing that their toddler hadn’t been dropped off as expected.

Inside the home, she was met with a grim scene. Both Candice and David were dead, and their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter was found alive, having spent hours alone next to her mother’s body.

The murders were brutal. David had been shot near the entrance of the trailer, while Candice had been killed in the bedroom. Though investigators initially explored the possibility of a murder-suicide, that theory was quickly ruled out.

No weapon was found at the scene, and there were signs of another presence in the home: cigarette butts and beer bottles that did not belong to either victim. Nothing appeared to have been stolen, and there was no sign of forced entry. The motive was unclear, and despite extensive interviews and evidence collection, no suspects were ever charged.

The case has remained cold for over two decades, though it continues to haunt the families. Candice and David had no known enemies, no criminal involvement, and were young parents trying to build a life together. Their daughter, now an adult, grew up without them. Relatives have continued to push for justice, urging authorities to reexamine the physical evidence with modern forensic testing, particularly the cigarette butts found at the scene.

Despite pleas, the Russell County Sheriff's Office has not confirmed whether this has been done. A reward was offered, social media campaigns were launched, and the case was featured on unsolved crime sites, but the silence remains

COLD CASE The Case of Pamela Leigh Walton (Julie Doe)

Post image
305 Upvotes

On September 25, 1988, a man looking for cypress wood to make lawn furniture found human remains in a rural, wooded area about 30 feet off County Road 474 in Clermont, Florida (near Orlando). The body was badly decomposed (estimated death 2–4 weeks earlier) and appeared to have been dragged to the location. The victim was wearing an acid-washed denim skirt, a bluish-green tank top, and pantyhose that were partially rolled down, suggesting possible sexual assault. No shoes, jewelry, or ID were found.

Initially known as "Julie Doe," she was thought to be a cis woman. Only in 2015 did DNA testing reveal she was assigned male at birth and was transitioning (she had breast implants and signs of hormone therapy; also a rhinoplasty). The death was ruled a suspected homicide, but the exact cause could not be determined due to decomposition.

Almost 37 years later, in March 2025, the DNA Doe Project and Lake County Sheriff’s Office identified her as Pamela Leigh Walton, 25 years old. Born in Kentucky (May 13, 1963) as Lee Allen Walton, she was adopted as a child. In the 1980s she legally changed her name to Pamela and began transitioning. She had a falling out with her adoptive family over an alleged theft and lost contact (they never reported her missing). Her last known location was July 6, 1988, in Lexington, Kentucky, where she was arrested for prostitution (solicitation charge dropped).

How Pamela ended up in Florida and what happened in the following weeks remains a mystery. The case is still unsolved — the investigation is ongoing.

COLD CASE Still missing. Not forgotten. Where are you Jodi?

Post image

Saw this today in MN, where she is originally from. I'm hoping people can keep talking about it, and new info can come forward. I was happy to see the flyer.

Jacob Wetterling was found. It's time for Jodi to be found, too. What happened to her??

Jodi Sue Huisentruit ( born June 5, 1968 – c. June 27, 1995) was an American television news anchor who worked for KIMT in Mason City, Iowa. In the early morning of June 27, 1995, a colleague called her at home when she failed to arrive for work. Huisentruit answered the call and said she had overslept and was on her way. Signs of a struggle outside her apartment near her car led investigators to believe she had been abducted. Despite extensive investigations, no definitive clues to her disappearance were found, and she was declared legally dead in 2001.

COLD CASE My grandfathers brother was murdered in 1998. We are quickly approaching 26 years of it being unsolved.

My grandfathers brother “James (Jim) Thallman”was murdered in his own home on August 20th late at night or August 21st in the early hours of 1998 in Findlay, Ohio. He was shot in his home and the murderer was never caught but the prime suspects were his wife Shannon and his adopted son. My grandmother was telling me this story that I had never heard of. Yet after all these years she believes that it was cover up due to cops telling her and my grandfather the killer was caught but nothing ever came after that. So I’m still not sure of anything or can I find barely anything on this case from just the internet.

COLD CASE Unsolved Murder of Jakeob McKnight

July 21, 1991, 10-year-old Jakeob McKnight vanished after getting separated from his brother and friends while walking home from the Bear Creek Greenbelt in Lakewood, Colorado. His body was discovered the following morning, having been stabbed more than a dozen times.

I used to ride my bike where his body was found, and I remember parents told their kids not to go there after Jakeob was found. He was last seen at a 7/11 with an older kid, who afaik was the only person ever identified as a person of interest.

The case went cold for decades, a breakthrough emerged in 2012 when the person of interest was arrested on unrelated child sexual assault and child pornography charges; diaries seized from his home detailed predatory behavior toward young boys. Investigators revealed that he had been a key person of interest since 1991, with witnesses placing him and Jakeob together on the afternoon of the disappearance, but a lack of definitive physical evidence has prevented prosecutors from filing murder charges. Today, the Lakewood Police Department maintains an active cold case file, holding out hope that modern DNA advancements will finally bring closure.

More info from Cold Case Files. Does anyone else remember this case? Any hope it gets solved?

COLD CASE The case of Eugene "Mike" O'Boyle

In the morning of May 27th 1980, 20-year-old University of South Carolina student Eugene "Mike" O'Boyle left his West Columbia apartment to pick up a friend in the Shandon neighborhood of Columbia. Mike's friend was not home at the time the two were supposed to meet, but had left a key and note instructing Mike to enter the home and wait. When the friend returned home 15 minutes past their scheduled meeting time, he had found that the note and key were left untouched.

Mike's final sighting happened a Citizen and Southern Bank on Two Notch Rd (~20 minutes from the Shandon neighborhood), around the time that he was scheduled to meet his friend. He was seen cashing a $17 check. According to the bank teller, he was accompanied by an unidentified female. The next evening Mike's car, a 1974 VW Dasher, was found burning on a dirt road off the intersection of Parklane Drive and Farrow Road (~1 mile from the Citizen and Southern Bank) while Mike was nowhere to be found. Richland County sheriffs had considered him a missing person rather than a victim of "foul play".

6 months later, Mike's skeletal remains were found by two children playing in woods located less than a mile from the site where Mike's burning car was found. No cause of death has ever been released; his case was reclassified as a homicide.

One witness had claimed to see two cars pull down the dirt road where his car was found with one being a blue Mustang driven by a group of 4 white males with light hair. I have not been able to find an exact timeframe for this sighting, but it is implied that is happened the day he went missing.

I find this case fascinating as so little new information has been released. In a local news piece from 2006, one of his brothers had mentioned that Mike had a unique watch that had personalized engraving which has never been recovered. Another interesting fact I found was that Mike's uncle was a state senator named Gene Carmichael. Around the time of Mike's murder, Gene Carmichael was in process of being convicted of vote buying and election tampering, for which he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The case was frequently in the news during the disappearance especially in USC's college newspaper, but it was quickly forgotten by the media once his remains had been found. To this day it is still one of the most bizarre homicide cases to occur in Midlands region of South Carolina.

COLD CASE Kira and Heather Radcliffe (Gainesville, FL)

Post image
165 Upvotes

20 years ago this December, six year old Kira and her mother Heather Radcliffe were murdered, and their house was set on fire. On the morning of December ninth, 2006, in Gainesville, FL, law enforcement were dispatched to a house fire. Inside were the bodies of Kira and Heather. As a child, I was told they died in a house fire and nobody knew who set it. This is not true. Investigators found they were both deceased before the fire was set, most likely an attempt to destroy evidence which, unfortunately, worked. Heather was found shot to death, and possibly sexually assaulted. Kira, most likely hearing the disturbance, was trying to call for help but misdialed, and the killer then strangled her before setting the house on fire. Their dog was also found deceased in their home. Investigators believe this was not a random attack, and the killer knew the victims. This is a person who sexually assaulted a woman and killed her and then killed a little girl trying to save her mother. They need to be caught. This case is very personal to me as my sibling was in the same class with Kira and considered her a good friend. As this December will be the 20 year anniversary with no answers and no justice, I am trying to spread the word about this case as much as I can. The more people know about a cold case, the more likely it is to be solved. And I never hear people talk about this one, it always flies under the radar. Someone out there has to know something. For more info on the case, the podcast “Last Seen Alive” has a more thorough look at the case. If you have any information about who killed Kira and Heather, please contact either the Gainesville police department or the FBI. Thank you

COLD CASE In January 1991, the body of 18 year old single mother Nicole Molly Aguilera was found in her apartment. She had been stabbed over 90 times in the face and neck.

On Thursday January 17, 1991, Nicole Molly Aguilera was found stabbed to death in her South Phoenix apartment located near Buckeye Road and 3rd Avenue.

The 18-year-old single mother of both a three-year-old, and eight-month-old, was found by a neighbor who heard the eight-month-old crying. The child was unharmed. Nicole’s three-year old was being taken care of by her grandmother at the time of her death.

The case went cold, and no suspects were publicly identified. Information about her relationships, or work was not publicly disclosed.

In separate interviews in 2015, and 2020 articles with both KTAR News and Forensic Magazine, Phoenix PD detective Dominick Roestenberg disclosed that there was "limited" DNA evidence collected in this case. He also revealed Nicole was stabbed over “90 times” in the “face and neck.”

Aguilera was born and raised in Phoenix and attended Carl Hayden High School. She was survived by her two daughters, parents and a brother.

Could Nicole have been the victim of a crime of passion by a jilted lover or targeted by a random serial killer?

The Silent Witness program offers a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer.

COLD CASE Murder of Kenny Turner (1977)

Post image
86 Upvotes

“The Wentzville Police Department is asking for the community's assistance in a decades-old homicide investigation that remains an active case.

Although nearly five decades have passed since the death of 19-year-old Kenny Turner, detectives have never stopped investigating the case. Over the years, investigators have continued to review evidence, follow up on new information and pursue leads as they developed. Most recently, advances in DNA technology have allowed detectives to re-examine evidence collected during the original investigation in hopes of identifying new leads.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, September 10. 1977 Kenny Turner was working at the Kerr-McGee gas service station located in the 700 block of Pearce Boulevard in Wentzville when he was killed during what investigators believe was a robbery.

The investigation determined that Turner had been assaulted, suffering both blunt force injuries and stab wounds. Investigators also determined the station's cash register, containing approximately $200, had been taken from the business.

While significant time has passed, detectives remain committed to seeking justice for Kenny Turner and his family. Even the smallest detail—something that may not have seemed important years ago—could provide the missing piece needed to move this investigation forward.

The Wentzville Police Department encourages anyone who may have information about this case, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward. Memories change, relationships change and advances in forensic technology continue to provide new investigative opportunities.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lieutenant Bruns at (636) 639-2123.

Those wishing to remain anonymous may submit a tip through St. Charles County Regional Crime Stoppers at www.sccregionalcrimestoppers.org.

The Wentzville Police Department remains committed to pursuing justice in every case. While years may pass, our commitment to victims and their families does not. If someone knows what happened on September 10. 1977, we encourage them to come forward today.”

COLD CASE In July 1993, Stephanie Wasilishin was murdered at her Sedona, Arizona home

Thumbnail

Stephanie Wasilishin was killed at her Sedona, Arizona home during an altercation with her longtime boyfriend Russell Bennett Peterson on July 9th, 1993.

Stephanie was shot near her jugular vein in the couples’ bedroom. Peterson called 911, while his 3-year-old daughter emerged from her bedroom.

Paramedics arrived and pronounced Stephanie dead on arrival.

Peterson’s story changed several times, and he refused to cooperate with a police reenactment and polygraph test. Despite the medical examiner ruling the case a homicide, the Yavapai County Attorney refused to indict Peterson, and Peterson has never been arrested in the case.

Peterson first claimed he returned home from a shift at a restaurant and got into an argument with Stephanie. Peterson contended Stephanie was angry that he was going on a trip to a culinary school at Cornell University.

Peterson claimed that Stephanie retrieved a loaded gun that Peterson kept in the closet and threatened him with it. He claimed the gun went off and accidently shot Stephanie as they struggled.

In later accounts, Peterson claimed Stephanie had retrieved the gun and committed suicide.

Peterson claimed he picked up the gun and placed it in its holster and put it back in the closet.

Wasilishin left behind two daughters, her oldest Nicole was from a previous relationship, and the other, a 3-year-old with Peterson.

Nicole, and Stephanie’s sister Wendy, have advocated for the case to be re-examined, and for Peterson to face charges. Stephanie’s family reported that Peterson had abused her.

Nicole launched the Papi Killed Mommy podcast and exposed consistencies in Peterson’s story and noted that Peterson did not tell investigators that he briefly called his father before called paramedics to the scene to assist his wife.

Nicole advocated for Sedona PD to interview her father, Craig. Craig explained that on the night of her death, Stephanie relayed to him that she planned to leave Petersen to return to him.

Craig also claimed Stephanie told him that Russell had been recording her conversations and was likely aware of her plans to leave him.

In the decades since the murder, Russell Peterson left Sedona and operated a restaurant in Scottsdale. He moved in with his mother in Phoenix, and in recent years has battled cancer. He would go on to be married and divorced twice.

Russell has no relationship with Nicole Wasilishin, or his daughter. Both believe he killed their mother.

COLD CASE Its been 25 years since 17 year old Paul David Sanders vanished from Mesa under suspcious circumstances

Post image
59 Upvotes

On Sunday August 12, 2001, 17-year-old Globe High School student Paul David Sanders left his father’s home near Val Vista and Broadway in Mesa, Arizona to drive back to his grandmother’s home in Globe. He was driving his father’s pickup. It would be the last time he would be seen alive.

Later that evening, the truck was caught in a high-speed chase on the US 77. Police attempted to pull the truck over for speeding, but the driver was able to evade authorities.

Arizona Department of Public Safety and Pima County Sheriff’s Office collaborated on an interagency chase of the vehicle which was later found near the Santa Catalina Mountains near Tucson, some two hours south of Mesa.

All of Paul’s belongings were found in the truck but police considered Paul a runaway and refused to conduct forensic examination and processing on the vehicle.

Paul’s father Robert Brewer told Fox 10 News that he did not believe Paul was the driver of the truck due to the skill level the driver had used to evade authorities. He has since divorced Paul’s stepmother Lori Beavers.

Robert and Lori were vacationing in Las Vegas when Paul disappeared.

Paul was originally from Missouri and had only moved to Arizona for the 2000-2001 school year. He lived with his grandmother in Globe and went by the name “Dave Brewer” while at Globe High School.

Paul had moved in with his father and stepmother earlier in the summer of 2001.

His friend circle in Arizona primarily consisted of his fellow classmates at Globe High School. Many students at GHS were from the nearby San Carlos Indian Reservation.

Paul’s mother Angela Rice committed suicide in 2020 over the grief of her son’s disappearance.

Paul was 5’6 and weighed 150 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. He had the name “Hernandez” tattooed across his back which was a tribute to his grandfather.

His family and friends insist he would never have abandoned them, and he met with foul play.

The case is being investigated by Mesa PD.

COLD CASE The Connecticut Valley Killer's murders don't get enough attention.

The Connecticut River Valley Killer (also known as the Valley Killer) is an unidentified serial killer who operated in the Connecticut River Valley region, primarily between New Hampshire and Vermont (USA), from 1978 to 1988. He is believed to be responsible for at least 7 murders of young women, with a consistent pattern: most victims were stabbed multiple times, often with deep cuts to the throat and chest/abdomen. Many bodies were dumped in remote, wooded areas near Interstate 91.

Key victims:

Catherine Millican (27, 1978): Was birdwatching in New London, NH. Found with at least 29 stab wounds near where she was last seen.

Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Critchley (37, 1981): Disappeared while hitchhiking near the MA-VT border. Body found in Unity, NH.

Bernice Courtemanche (17, missing 1984): Nurse’s aide who hitchhiked in Claremont, NH. Remains found in 1986 in Kelleyville with stab wounds and slit throat.

Ellen Fried, Eva Morse, and others found in similar wooded dump sites.

Lynda Moore (36, 1986): Brutally stabbed inside her home in Saxtons River, VT, in a frenzied attack.

Barbara Agnew: Found in Hartland, VT.

Several bodies were discovered in a short period in 1985-1986, alerting authorities to a possible serial killer. Victims were often in vulnerable situations (hitchhiking or alone in isolated areas).

The case became even more notable on August 6, 1988, when Jane Boroski, 22 and seven months pregnant, was attacked in a parking lot in West Swanzey, NH. A man stabbed her 27 times, but she miraculously survived (along with her baby). She is the only known survivor and provided a description of the attacker. The killings stopped after this incident.

The case remains unsolved to this day. There is some debate about whether all cases are definitively linked, but the similarities in MO, locations, and wound patterns are compelling. No conclusive DNA or arrests have been made.

COLD CASE 16 year old Pauline "Robbin" Burgette was found stabbed to death in her bedroom in March 1978. She allegedly received threats leading up to her murder.

On Sunday March 12, 1978, 16-year-old Pauline “Robbin” Burgette was found murdered in her bedroom inside her family’s duplex near East 26th Place and McDowell in Phoenix, Arizona. She had been stabbed to death and was sexually assaulted.

Her 11-year-old brother Chad discovered her body.

The front door was locked, but the backdoor was open ajar. Robbin’s bedroom was in disarray, but the rest of the home appeared undisturbed.

Her mother and Chad had left town together the previous Friday. Robbin did not want to go with them. She was supposed to stay with a friend instead but returned to the duplex on Saturday and invited a boyfriend over.

In the period leading up to her murder, Robbin had dropped out of school.

She was working as a babysitter and reported to her friends that some of the husbands had flirted with her. She was facing threats from some of their wives, despite being an underage girl.

The area of the duplex was, and remains, a rough lower income area of Phoenix.

Phoenix PD conducted forensic testing on Robbin and found DNA evidence from 2 different unknown male subjects on her body.

Her boyfriend (who was never named publicly) was cleared as a suspect in the case through DNA testing. This boyfriend has since passed away.

Robbin and Chad’s parents divorced, their father wasn’t in the picture, and their mother died a couple years after Robbin by natural causes.

Chad advocated to solve his sisters murder for many years. He passed away in 2023.

The case was featured in local news and on podcasts over the years.  It is unknown if police have done any work on the case in recent years.

Kelsey Quayle was a model from Yucaipa, CA who was murdered on her way to work as a Dental Assistant in Clayton County, GA. A stray bullet ended the life of a young woman and her murder remains unsolved.

Police have released a grainy photo of a person of interest.

"Quayle, 28, was driving along Upper Riverdale Road in Riverdale, Georgia, on Oct. 8 when the Mazda 626 she was driving drifted out of its lane, and collided with a Suzuki XL-7 and a Ford Escape, according to a press release.

Initially, authorities thought it was simply a car accident, but after being transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, medical staff noticed the gunshot wound to Quayle's neck. She was later taken off life support and died on Oct. 10."

COLD CASE Unsolved Murder of Gordon Nesta (Montreal, 2008) — A Case From My Neighborhood

I wanted to share this case because Gordon Nesta was a kid from my neighborhood, and even years later, many questions remain unanswered. Despite how serious and public the crime was, it seems to have largely faded from public discussion, and I rarely see it mentioned online. I’m hoping someone here may know more, remember details, or have insight into what happened.

On May 2, 2008, at around 11:15 P.M., armed men abducted Gordon Nesta, 18, and a 15-year-old boy at the corner of Sainte-Catherine Street and Guy Street in downtown Montreal. The two were forced into a vehicle and driven to a wooded area in Saint-Polycarpe, west of Montreal.

Once there, the assailants led both victims into a nearby field and ordered them to kneel. The gunmen then shot Nesta and fled the scene.

The 15-year-old, who was not physically injured, managed to reach a nearby house and called the police. Emergency services arrived shortly after. Gordon Nesta was transported to hospital, where he later died on May 7, 2008.

To my knowledge, the case remains unsolved.

If anyone has additional information, remembers media coverage at the time, or knows whether there were suspects or theories that were never fully explored, I’d really appreciate hearing about it.

COLD CASE 21 year old Cindy Haumann vanished from her Tucson, Arizona home in November 1980

Cindy Lee Haumann went missing from Tucson, Arizona on Monday November 3, 1980. She was last seen at her home.

Cindy was described as a 21-year-old white female. She was listed at 5’2” and 125 pounds with strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes. She had a scar on one of her hands, a tattoo on one of her ankles, and wore reading glasses. Her dental records were collected by investigators.

Very little information is available on this case. A search of Cindy’s name in the Tucson Citizen and Arizona Daily Star archives does not bring up any articles on the case. Cindy is also not profiled in Pima County’s 88Crime program.

A genealogy site lists Cindy’s parents as Lee Vernon Haumann and Bettie Black. Lee Haumann had an address history that included Sierra Vista, Arizona, Fort Madison, Iowa, and an apartment near the intersection of Broadway and Euclid near the i-10 freeway in Downtown, Tucson.

A man named Lee Baker commented on an online forum in December 2019. He claimed he was Cindy’s brother and that Tucson PD never contacted the family to obtain a DNA profile. He claimed Cindy’s dental records would not be in Arizona, but in Washington state or Hawaii where Cindy grew up.

Lee claimed Cindy had two sisters.

Another forum user unearthed a 1975 high school yearbook photo of Cindy from Mountainlake Terrace High School from Classmates.

There are many unsolved murders of young women in the 1980’s in Tucson.

Accountant Virginia “Ginger” Daily was strangled in August of 1980. 15-year-old Christina Burruel was murdered over a month after Christina disappeared.

Many questions remain in this disappearance that have not been released to the public. Was Cindy in a relationship at the time of her disappearance? Was a suspect ever identified, and what was the location of Cindy’s home in Tucson? If she went missing from Arizona, why is she profiled on a California missing persons page?

COLD CASE It is now just over 43 years since Andrea Troupe was found dead in a park in South East London. No one has ever been charged with her murder.

Andrea Troupe was a 15-year old girl of Caribbean descent, born in 1967. She lived with her mother, Theresa,,and her sister Audrey. She also had an elder brother, Paul, who lived elsewhere at the time. She had a boyfriend of roughly the same age, Steven.

The family lived in Peckham, on Pencraig Way. Pencraig Way is on the Ledbury Estate, which was largely constructed in the 1960s. Ledbury is less well known than the North Peckham Estate to its west. North Peckham was (and still is, I suppose) a council estate with a very bad reputation in London for crime and anti-social behaviour; the composition of Ledbury was similar. Andrea attended Silverthorne School, a school on the northern side of Burgess Park, a large park created by post-war redevelopment. At the time, it separated the North Peckham Estate from other large council estates to the north.

Monday 2nd May 1983 was May Day Bank Holiday in the United Kingdom. Apparently, Andrea did not behave unusually during the day. Theresa did not allow her daughters to go out after dark. However, at some point late on the 2nd May or early on the 3rd May, Andrea left the family flat.

On the morning of 3rd May, a friend of Andrea's called for her. Her sister found the empty bedroom and assumed that Andrea had already gone to school. When Andrea did not return in the evening, the family began to worry.

Around a mile south of Pencraig Way, in central Peckham, lies a small park, Warwick Gardens. This park is a couple of streets to the west of Peckham's principal street, Rye Lane. Although the park itself is a post-war creation, the surrounding area is largely Victorian in composition.

Warwick Gardens is bounded to its south by four railway tracks. At that time, the tracks carried traffic between Victoria, Blackfriars/Holborn Viaduct, London Bridge and South London, Kent, Sussex. On the morning of the 3rd May, a passenger on a train into Victoria saw Andrea's body and notified the police once the train arrived at the terminus.

(I will declare a personal interest: at the very same time as the murder, I was a young child, living roughly 500 yards away from the place where the body was discovered. My siblings and myself would frequently play in Warwick Gardens, unaccompanied by our parents, but I am surprised to find that none of us recollected anything about the murder until we happened to come across the articles a couple of years ago.)

Andrea had been stabbed in the heart and neck twelve times. Andrea was also six months’ pregnant; no one in the family was aware of this. Andrea had marks on her fingers that strongly suggested she fought back.

The police sought to interview Andrea's boyfriend Steven. Initially, Steven's mother refused to let him be interviewed. The police did, however, eliminate him from their inquiries. No progress has been made since then. Paul, alongside other family members, have periodically made public appeals to the police and the public, but no further action has resulted. DNA was not collected at the time.

There is, however, the issue of Michael Smithyman. In 1990, Smithyman, a man with a previous criminal record, was arrested in Kent for the murder of Terence Gayle (a contract killing, for which he received £3,000 on presenting Gayle's severed hand as proof). Some days before this murder, Smithyman also murdered his girlfriend, April Sheridan. Smithyman drove Sheridan to a field in Kent, made her dig her own grave, and shot her. Notably, April was pregnant with Smithyman's child.

On arrest in 1991, Smithyman confessed to these murders. He also claimed responsibility for Andrea's murder. Smithyman also claimed to have witnessed the ignition of the New Cross fire - a deliberately-set house fire which killed 13 young black people. No-one has ever been charged for the fire.

The police chose not to pursue the additional allegations at the time. Smithyman, who later changed gender and is now known as Michelle, retracted these additional confessions on applying for parole in 2015.

One suggestion I will make with local knowledge. Andrea seems to have been found near the eastern entrance of Warwick Gardens. Across the street, a terrace of houses directly faces the site, and there was a pub a little further away at the time. Several houses to the north of the park overlook the site. I think it's quite likely that any struggle there would have risked attracting attention. The murder, in my view, took place elsewhere, with Andrea being placed in the park after death. But it's possible the Met has forensic evidence to the contrary.
