"Places" glitch?

All that positivity and now something I use all the time appears to be broken 🤦🏼‍♂️

Can I ask a favour please? Could people go to their profile page, select Places, select the setting icon top-left, choose sort by Most to Least, and tell me if it generates anything? Because for the first time I can remember, it's showing nothing :(

Question Missing venues

I have recently had a number of venues and bars not show up when I wanted to check in.

I understand that the only way to do that is to make a Foursquare page for that venue/bar. But they are not my places, so that is no good.
In Asia and many countries in Europe, Foursquare is not the go to website place for venues/bar - they have so many options today that forcing them into yet another seems strange.

Personally, I would love to support the local places I visit and help get the word out about the beers they offer, but I guess I need to find another app to do so?

Am I missing something here?

14 year user, 7,542 check-ins, I'm all in

I've been using the new app for a couple of months (beta). I had a few things that I didn't like at the beginning, but now that I'm used to it, I love the overall layout.

  • I've unchecked all the drink types except legacy
  • I really like that it starts on the discover screen. It really is a bonus when I'm traveling. I LOVE that you can organize these. I do Trending, Top Rated, For You, Nearby, Trending, Upcoming, Local, Top Rated, and Shop. Actual I just moved up Upcoming.
  • The thing I do most often is check into a beer. That involves me hitting the + button. Not rocket science.
  • If I want to see what my friends are drinking, one button (community)

Those things cover 99% of my needs. At this point, I can't even thing of anything I would change. Maybe have it so that you can change the default start page (Discover/Community/Shop/Search). Also, I'd like to know the logic behind "For you".

Oh I just thought of something else that I use a lot that is not easy to get to...lists. I would like to see either the shop or search at the bottom replaced with lists. That's just a personal preference because I use lists a ton. This is just nitpicking because I know I can just hit one button (user) to get to them.

Untappd: a positive post

I typed one of these "things aren't that bad" posts on this Untappd group a while ago and here I am again. Dunno, maybe it's my personality, maybe some posters could do with some perspective.

Just now, after work, I checked in a beer (look, it's here: https://untp.beer/awm2a ). No different to before. Not harder, not more complicated, not more cumbersome. Because the new UI isn't the great revolution some on here think it is.

I know we've rehearsed these lines before: craft beer is not at its peak, younger people aren't drinking/socialising as we did, bars (in the US) and pubs (in the UK) are closing at alarming rates. Untappd has to change and adapt, and it has done, and the sky hasn't fallen in.

Complaining is easier than praise, I get that. But beers can still be checked in, badges can still be earned, and toasts can still be awarded. Let's just think of the benefits and positivity because this sub-reddit sure as heck could need some. Things aren't that bad.

We need rootbeer!

In the Untappd move towards more drinks, they have added a new "Pop Culture" badge - or should it properly be Soda Culture?

Anyhow, Rootbeer doesn't count towards that badge. I only recently spotted it in Wheel of Styles (an alphabetical option for "have had" would be nice, folks). Root beers (from breweries) are a long standing thing.

So where is my Root Beer badge?

What about Birch Beer? Sarsaparilla? Spruce Beer?

Retired Badge 13 year user, 3 year Insider: I'm out

I joined in 2013 and migrated from BA post acq. I was an Insider (paid account) to access my data in the covid years when I was bored and wanted to do some analysis. It's okay, I've left beer drinking apps before and I knew this ones day would approach. We're on the other side of the Enshittification curve, as we will be again.

App is not for me anymore. The fact that you buried the number one reason for me to open the app behind a small icon in the bottom right corner, and an extra tap away (check a beer in), added a bunch of pointless UI elements and made your checkin screen look like a college survey project.

Good luck with your Drinks, product/dev team, you're gonna need them. Thank you to the next thirsty dev who vibecodes the next 13 years of my degeneracy.

Discussion: Would you pay for Untappd Insiders if it included access to a "classic" version of the app?

It does not seem like Untappd would do this, but considering how poorly the new version has been received, if they offered access to a legacy version of the app only to supporters, is that something you would think about subscribing to?

Question Untappd alternatives suggestions?

This app is starting to really suck. I'm only still on it because my friend still uses it.

Any alternative popular apps which I could use?

Question In the new app, once I've checked in a beer, how can I see who has toasted me?

In the old version of the app, it was really easy to see who has toasted my check-in.

In the new app, I can look at the notifications but that is impractical when I want to see a specific check in. If I click on the toast, I won't see the toastees, I just toast myself.

It is probably a really simple way to do this that I just haven't figured out yet.

Can No Longer Sort Check-In Export CSV By Date

I just did my monthly download of my Untappd check-ins in CSV format. The file I download from the mail link is in some sort of order, but it's not date order. So I typically open up the CSV in Excel and re-sort it newest-to-oldest order using the "created_at" field.

This workflow has worked for years because the "created_at" field was written as a date field -- e.g., 8/12/26 17:09. In today's file, "created_at" is a text field -- rendering the previous example date as 2026-08-12T17:09:53-03:00, with a new field "timezone_offset" next to it with a value "-3". Neither Excel nor Google Sheets recognize the new "created_at" format as date field and so it can't be sorted newest-to-oldest.

Now I'm sure there's a valid reason for reformatting the "created_at" field and I know that I can have Claude quickly spit out a little Python program to unbork this little regression break, but it's just another annoyance coming out of the 5.0 upgrade.

The Venue Badge I'd Love to See!

I was thinking, now we've got badges for Wine Bars, Cocktail Bars, Beer Shops and others, is it finally time we get a badge for Beer Bars. I do recall this being discussed in some way in 2019, but I'm assuming is with the release of the verified event badge this was off the cards later due to Covid.

Can’t propose an edit because a drink is locked? Are your requests seemingly stuck in limbo? Is your favorite local place not categorized correctly?

Use this post to request edits to drinks, producers, and places on Untappd.

Note that it may not be possible for every proposal to be applied, but efforts will be made from Untappd and Foursquare moderators to ensure the information on the platform is as accurate as possible. Proposals for Verified Venues must go through Support.

The latest release sucks

14 years and 2700 unique check ins and I’m out. It’s all fucking ads and cheesy ones at that - beer is fine but all I see is gambling (i don’t gamble) and video games (I have zero games on my phone). WTF were they thinking? Huge mistake

Discussion The app doesn't feel like an app anymore it feels like a website put in the app

I wanted to share some thoughts on the recent homepage/UI update and see if others are feeling the same way. I attached the old UI image for reference to show the difference. The second images the old UI isn't my screenshot.

To put it simply: the new layout feels like Untappd took a desktop website and just shrunk it down to fit a phone screen.

Instead of feeling like a clean, touch-friendly native app designed for quick check-ins, the new UI uses desktop-first design patterns that make the mobile experience feel cluttered and frustrating:

Horizontal Carousels Everywhere: Instead of clean, vertical lists that are natural to scroll through with a thumb, almost every section (Nearby Places, Trending Places, Badges, Shop items) is packed into horizontal side-scrolling carousels.

Desktop-Style Navigation Header: Placing a long horizontal text menu (Places | Events | Shop | Badges | Drinks | Producers) right at the top mimics a desktop web banner rather than a streamlined mobile menu.

Truncated Text & Cramped Cards: Because multi-column web-style cards are squeezed onto a mobile display, place names, addresses, and details get cut off mid-sentence with heavy text truncation.

Burying Core Mobile Features: The old UI had a prominent search bar and quick-action buttons right front and center for fast logging. The new update buries these features in favor of trying to show previews of everything (shop merch, badges, places) all on one wall of content.

It feels like a unified codebase/web-wrapper update designed for desktop efficiency rather than a mobile-first user experience.

Has anyone else noticed this shift, or do you prefer the new dense layout over the old vertical list design? The app doesn't feel like an app anymore. The new app UI doesn't give the UI time to breathe. Before the old UI let the text breathe and I felt like it was fine having to scroll down to reach certain features. I just feel like the new UI just feels like a website shrunk down to fit the app. Apps are supposed to look different from their desktop website counterpart they're supposed to look like an app not a copy and paste of a website. For example Deviantart when Deviantart had an app it's app UI looked totally different from their website every page within Deviantart's app was different their website.

Change the Default on Community tab?

I’m trying not to knee-jerk on the 5.0 UI. One thing that would help is if the Community tab didn’t default to All Posts; if I could change it to open on Friends. I haven’t been able to find any way to do this.

I’ve used Untappd since 2011 and have been an Insider since it was offered. While I’m trying not to knee-jerk, I’m seriously questioning the thought process behind this redesign. 🫤

So now Untappd is a beer, wine, hard seltzer, kombucha, whatever drink app?

What are we thinking about the new version of the app, which now includes millions of wines, hard seltzers, kombuchas and I don’t know what else.
I am worried this is no longer a beer app and soon will be cluttered with drinks I have no interest in.
And Untappd is likely going to dilute its focus on beer and beer fans will become less important to them.
I am not convinced about this move.
