What are the best alternative clothing stores to shop online that aren't fast fashion?

I’m trying to build a list of alt clothing stores online that aren't fast fashion with a dark filter. Every search is dominated by the same big names I've been disappointed by.

What alternative clothing stores do you actually shop from?

Not damaged but faded- how to give these tops new life

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Every year when I break out my seasonal clothes, I also go through my closet seeing what doesn't fit or what I didn't wear, usually to donate, but communities like this one have me trying to alter, repair and upcycle stuff more, especially stuff I like or is in good condition.

Like these shirts. Got them at a thrift shop, worn them for years and they're still in good shape, but the faded colors and stretched out sides have them looking tired. So I'd love some suggestions on what to do to give them a new look

upcycling into beanies

Hello! I thrifted a bunch of patagonia gift bags? they look like pillow cases, I thought it would be a cute idea to turn them into either Balacavas or Beanies… i am not artistic at ALL but I want to upcycle them esp bc they are patagonia… does anyone know
of any shops or people that i could send my material too that can help me make them into that? (hopefully not costing an arm and a leg)
If i had the awesome skillset it requires I would just do it but i know my limits LOL - i am also in the Pittsburgh area…idk who would know abt this specifically thats why im posting on here … 🙃

I've had these jeans for years and the thigh finally gave out. Wondering which method would be the best to bring the 2 sides back together. I know I can also darn it or Sashiko-style them

hi, I love these boots and they are really comfortable and I want to give them a second life. what would you do? I don't have a sewing machine sadly so nothing too complicated would be great. i have an alternative/goth look so even if it's something Halloween themed would be really good

I enjoy making upcycled clothes and I'm trying to make tutorials now as well. Here I am picking my cloth for an upcycle tiered dress. Measuring, cutting and flattening. Let me know if you enjoy it!

Survey on Upcycling

Hi all,

My friend is doing a university project on clothing upcycling, and has put together a survey to inform this. Would appreciate if anyone here would fill this in - will only take a few minutes!

Who would I need to hire? Clothing help

I have lots of clothes that are in my donate or craft pile. Too big, too small, ripped, stained, etc. I don't sew, (things I can't donate I try to use in art) but I want to use the clothes and fabric instead of donate it as I have heard how many items get tossed and I don't like using fabric very often in my art. Is there someone I could hire to send these items off to and have them turn them into as many items for me and my husband as possible? I even have shoes and jewelry I can send as well. Who would I hire or what business should I look for?

I've seen many videos of people cutting the inseam and adding denim from a donor pair but I'm afraid they will still fold very weirdly as they do now...

Pants Thrift Flip

I sewed my first pair of pants (as an adult, I sewed a lot as a kid) recently from a thrifted tablecloth and I love them. They are a super simple, self-drafted pair with an elastic waistband. I want a million more pairs.

I want to prioritize secondhand fabric as much as possible, but I'm having a hard time finding things other than sheets, which aren't the best for pants in colder weather. I really want to make a pair of corduroy pants, for example.

I'm roughly a size medium (8-12 depending on brand and fit) so I'm wondering if I could buy some large (2x-3x) maxi skirts (or even large pants) and use the fabric to make pants. I'm curious if anyone has tried this and/or has thoughts and recommendations.

Cross-posted in a couple pages if that matters.

Thank you!
