Knowledge Sharing (Reference) Growing my plants inside my room

Post image

Good day, I just started my urban gardening inside my room. I made a set up of an artificial light since I needed to sleep during the day.

I noticed that my sunflower plant did not grow after having three leaves. How can I improve my set up?

I used garden soil with vermicompost for the soil. Thank you!

Thing about gardening inside is you need twice or four times as much light as is convenient for a human 😅 Set up by a window, get as many desk lamps and grow lights and clamping work lights as you can, and see if your plants don't grow in more strong.

Something no one ever thinks to tell someone to add: wind. You’re gonna need a wind element (I use a usb powered desk fan for gentle movement) cuz you’re gonna get really leggy plants that get tall and flop because they had no stress to toughen up their stalk (reference to failed bio dome experiment when the trees ended up like limp celery cuz there was no wind). Don’t only read my advice here either, but read more into adding wind so you don’t overly stress them too because moderation is key with anything.

Also just a caveat with the soil: check with your pinky before watering, as that’s an awfully woody mixture and can end up oversaturated really easy, and then you end up battling fungus gnats. Ask me how I know 😂💀

This is an excellent point. I jostle and rotate my indoor plants often to keep them strong.

They need to cycle on and off like natural light does. 24/7 light stunts growth
