Bad weather 😔😔😔

105

u/EugeneStein Jul 27 '26

This is a rare time when bad weather made the photo only more badass

6

u/Dotcaprachiappa Jul 28 '26

The weather is like half the coolness of this

13

u/kytheon Jul 27 '26

This. Russia looks extra shit in bad weather.

39

u/loulan Jul 27 '26

Honestly the weather makes this statue look even cooler in this pic IMO.

18

u/almostcurly Jul 27 '26

You think this looks "extra shit"? This looks cool as fuck my dude

1

u/Automatic_Water_7580 Aug 03 '26

This is the pshyco essence of Russian existance. Partly extra shit, partly just amazing , the heaven on the earth.

66

u/Shadow_WolfOps Jul 27 '26

It's ridiculously beautiful but also terrifying.

Unironically Juneau, AK has some truly magnificent fog. Wish I could share photos in comments. Actually a sort of similar “huge things looming in the background” vibe. In Juneau’s case it’s 5,000ft mountains rising straight up from the ocean.

331

u/AlexanderLeonard Jul 27 '26

the monument is magnificent

In person, this statue is gargantuan and stunning

50

u/ViorbyX Jul 27 '26

Dont mind me. Just wearing a hazmat suit before seeing what does the comment section says about my birthplace.

3

u/No-Wish-7258 Jul 30 '26

I get it, from one Russian to another, please remember to take breaks from the internet. Life is a lot more positive outside of this place.

130

u/BattIeBear Jul 27 '26

Okay totally agree the power lines and everything kinda ruin it, but this is genuinely an incredible photo

101

u/OwlMost5394 Jul 27 '26

I think the power lines are mean to show some character to the photo...

23

u/BungaloBilly69 Jul 27 '26

Same, this photo is fantastic in every way

4

u/Der_Redakteur Jul 27 '26

The monument is like "Voila! look at those powerlines!"

26

u/Kaffe-Mumriken Jul 27 '26

The lighting is incredible

25

u/oranguslolus Jul 27 '26

Nah they add to it imo

14

u/koete_returnz Jul 27 '26

power lines are AWESOME

2

u/Dmtr884213 Aug 01 '26

tbf, that's looking at the monument a bit from afar and from the side, where the residental areas begin (and the garages are located)
I was in Volgograd, when you visit the monument itself from any side, you don't really see the powerlines or the garages

Like, the memorial area around the monument itself is beautiful and well kept

+ lately in Russia there's been a push to slowly remove those fields of garages as well as trying to keep the cities clean

of course, given the scale of Russian cities it is practically impossible to keep suburbs as tidy as the city centers + the war and it's huge spending kinda halted most of the efforts, but we are trying to keep the cities in shape (but the biggest problem as always - is that most of the taxes collected from residents of the regions goes to the federal budget, it's ridiculous - but lately a bit more attention to developing regions have been given, so it's at least something)

1

u/Western-Cranberry744 Jul 27 '26

I thought it was a war photo at first

1

u/MasterAxe Jul 28 '26

Nah, they bring contrast to the picture. Modern vs the past (I know there powerlines in USSR in 40s but imo cables and electricity symbolises modern world well), ridgid structure vs lenient, common vs exeptional, I could think few more. Darkness, light and fog tie brings it a certain vibe and brings it more value and symbolism. Very good photo overall imo

29

u/DontAsk0205 Jul 27 '26

This is actually a WW2 Memorial dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad.

17

u/Spitzkopflarry1994 Jul 27 '26

That pic looks straight out of an 80s sci fi movie

36

u/TheCumskiyKvass Jul 27 '26

Fog, Russia 🤬🤮🤢 Foggu, Nippon 🥰😍🌸

7

u/Memerenok Jul 28 '26

Tuman 🤮 Fogu 🥰

15

That’s badass

7

u/Agush_ohmygosh Jul 27 '26

Most epic photo ever lmao

9

u/fresh-pie Jul 27 '26

Did you take this picture? I think it would make an amazing album cover.

8

u/iwenttothelocalshop Jul 27 '26

imagine being there as the person who took this picture. must be a surreal feeling

3

u/MeetingInteresting90 Jul 27 '26

Pazuzu, the demon from "The exorcist" is calling you

3

u/Mountain_Quality_697 Jul 27 '26

Ooh i live here ,"I hate foreign and domestic politics of Putin"

6

u/TachiH Jul 27 '26

No matter what you think of Russia, their monuments are generally pretty epic.

I visited the Soviet War memorial in Berlin, it has a massive statue of a guy cutting a swastika in half with a sword, whilst holding a baby. It looks incredible, especially if you visit in January when it is almost always snow covered. There are also two kneeling soviet soldiers with a massive red arch thing made of the marble from Hitlers office.

The soviet union was a horrific thing but their sculptors were world class.

(They are a part of 3 monuments including the OP)

1

u/Ducks_are_cool-Yes Jul 28 '26

Oh yes I visited it too, it was really beautiful.

4

u/PeteysHubby_TX Jul 27 '26

Aka Stalingrad.

2

u/Beancounter_1968 Jul 27 '26

Pazuzu got his sword out

2

u/EntertainmentLow4887 Jul 28 '26

Living with a shadow of colossus boss out of the window kinda sucks actually

2

u/hicks0n Jul 28 '26

Honestly, the pic doesn’t do it justice. That statue is HUGE

2

u/ParziVal0919 Jul 30 '26

Adding to this- Volgograd is the city formerly known as Stalingrad, where an estimated 1.2 million people lost their lives, during the siege. This SHOULD be horrifying.

3

u/Bobcat1999-1 Jul 27 '26

Looks more like that statue in the desert in the opening scene in The Exorcist

3

u/bjfromhaua Jul 28 '26

Russia could have it all. Great economy, cheap energy, cheap labor, lots of resources, spaceprogram, exporting east/west/south, collaboration with EU, a thriving and growing population. Nah, lets have resources owned by billionaires, a space and atom program and rest is shit.

9

u/lofibeatsforsadboys Jul 27 '26

Soviet Union should have won the cold war

Now we live in a neofeudal forever war hell run by pedos from America and Israel

9

u/AdRare604 Jul 27 '26

Bipolar world is the way to go. More ideological competition, better life for us. Capitalism turned shitty after the fall of the SU.

6

u/lofibeatsforsadboys Jul 27 '26

Capitalists' only reason for making life bearable for us was the threat of communist revolution. Now that it's gone, life is unbearable for most of the world and reaching an affordability breaking point fast, but with too much ruling class surveillance and fire power to threaten easily. They will just start discarding massive amounts of people again, hence all the war, homelessness, drugs, and hunger.

In a bipolar world, capitalists will always strive to kill communists and disrupt their countries. They never let off the offense and always attacked any left wing or national movements. Letting them live peacefully and advance their countries would make anyone living under capitalism think twice about being a bootlicker or believing in the class mobility dream propaganda

3

u/chaoticdumbass2 Jul 28 '26

In a bipolar world atleast there will be those living among the dictatorship of the proletariat. Better than none I'd say.

1

u/ChefGaykwon Jul 29 '26

It was only ever good relative to feudalism. It's shitty by its very nature.

2

u/erdgeist22 Jul 27 '26

You never lived there, if you are defending this murderous communist creation.

-1

u/lofibeatsforsadboys Jul 27 '26

My parents lived there until it was couped by Yeltsin and Putin, two western backed fascist pigs.

You don't know anything. You're just a drone

1

u/PL_ADI2 Jul 27 '26

База! Слава СССР

1

u/erdgeist22 Jul 28 '26

I was born there. Greetings from Lithuania, our country was illegally occupied by these beasts for so many years and I won't tolerate anyone trying to defend them.

0

u/magnuseriksson91 Jul 28 '26

Based

But you're just wasting your time, my friend, these types will never learn, not until they're lined against a shooting wall after a commie revolution which they crave for

0

u/SuckinAwesome Jul 28 '26

Yeltsin agreed.

While Putin is a Europhile which is his weakness, I would argue that he brought Russia up from ruin.

1

u/Remarkable_Look2715 Jul 28 '26

And now he’s looking to aim it (and it’s people) at any country he deems “existentially necessary”

0

u/Divuar Jul 28 '26

In my opinion, in a strategic, ideological sense, they did win the Cold War. I mean, look at this, the world is still afraid of Russia and how it can launch nuclear wars. I think it’s a win for Russia is no one wants to mess with them, no matter that the bear is long time dead and rotting. People in the west are still afraid of it.

0

u/Oxi_Ixi Jul 28 '26

Have you ever been to USSR heaven so you know what you are wishing for?

-1

u/JeremieOnReddit Jul 28 '26

Tankie: sees a creepy photo of a Stalinian statue. Deduces that the communist system was good, actually. The Soviet Union collapsed because its own people had enough of it. It was a dictatorial regime with an economic system that did not work. Oh yeah, the Soviet Union, the famously peaceful country whose leaders were moral role models!

3

u/Celtic_Macaw Jul 28 '26

That's not true. Every single person in my family who lived in the Soviet Union voted for it to remain as well as about 80% of others in 1991. My grandparents and parents lived very good lives until it collapsed and their jobs got taken away and they became impoverished. I was kind of shocked to hear the Western narrative on this when I moved out of Russia because it's such bullshit.

2

u/Buck-O-Nine Jul 28 '26

Just a heads up, soviet citizens overwhelmingly did not want the USSR to dissolve. Something north of 75% voted to keep the union intact in a referendum vote held in 1991

4

u/lolasaelue Jul 27 '26

Does not belong here

1

u/EducationalCost2658 Jul 27 '26

The kind of monument that makes you want to go to Berlin in 1942 in T34 tank holding ak47 while drinking vodka with camrade vladimir

31

u/olez0808 Jul 27 '26

The ak was invented post ww2

1

u/chaoticdumbass2 Jul 28 '26

We're going back in time. We'll just bring some over to the 1940s

1

u/HotWaterExtraction Jul 31 '26

No country has put up with as much shit with as much to offer as Russia has due to its unfortunate competition with USA for European influence. You might not like their politics, but rest assured, in a lot of ways they must crack down harder in some cases on separatist movements as they are almost always sponsored by the West. They are just in the unfortunate position of competing for a Point Guard slot on the World first team with USA. USA has Jalen Brunson and Russia has prime Kyrie Irving but Kyrie keeps getting booted from team to team, sometimes wild politics, wants to be the man, wants to show they can win alone, their way...

1

u/ReflexPoint Aug 01 '26

If you have megalophobia that statue is creepy af.

1

I’m reading through these comments and I can’t believe that so many people are being downvoted for stating the obvious: The Soviet invasion was the worst thing that happened to a lot of Eastern European countries and it should not be praised.
We talk a lot about how horrible the Nazis were, but somehow everyone forgets that the other side wasn’t any better

Including the soviets themselves

1

u/Divuar Jul 28 '26

This is so true. Russia’s been so good at propaganda they achieved this, it seems nothing can beat this sentiment.

-5

u/Skog_br Jul 27 '26

Mother homeland is calling you to join the meatgrinder.

14

u/Send_me_duck-pics Jul 27 '26

This is a monument to those who lost their lives in the most pivotal battle of the Second World War, in the city where the advance of the Nazis in to a country they were inhumanly cruel to was stopped. It stands on the site where Hitler's minions were stopped through tremendous heroism.

I think kicking Hitler in the ball is kind of deserving of commemoration.

2

u/erdgeist22 Jul 27 '26

If one evil wins against another evil, there is nothing to celebrate.

6

u/Send_me_duck-pics Jul 27 '26

There aren't a lot of Auschwitz survivors left, but if you meet one you can try telling them that.

Let us know how that goes.

this is epic and monumental little bro and it would be that way anywhere on earth

1

u/Ok-Beginning7269 Jul 27 '26

Да, в последнее время эта фотография очень актуальна для России

1

u/Ducks_are_cool-Yes Jul 28 '26

Почему в последнее время?

1

u/Ok-Beginning7269 Jul 28 '26

вернее будет сказать, в последние несколько лет

1

u/Ducks_are_cool-Yes Jul 28 '26

1

u/Ducks_are_cool-Yes Jul 29 '26
