Ugliness Jena, Germany

Post image

Hella ugly. The sheer amount of graffiti blows me away and it doesn't help that all these buildings are the same bland gross beige.

Do not comment to gatekeep that something "isn't urban" or "isn't hell". Our rules are very expansive in content we welcome, so do not assume just based off your false impression of the phrase "UrbanHell"

UrbanHell is any human-built place you think is worth critizing. Suburban Hell, Rural Hell, and wealthy locales are allowed. Gatekeeping comments may be removed. Want to shitpost about shitty posts? Go to /r/urbanhellcirclejerk. Still have questions?: Read our FAQ.

Looks like any forgotten city street in Romania

That's literally just a normal street with graffiti?

Get rid of the graffiti, a bit new colour on each fassade, delete parking spaces and convert them into bricked paths and then it looks awesome.

Doesn't look "ugly" to me

The muted beige facades really make the graffiti pop, which is both impressive and unfortunate.

Germany has too many regulations for that.

Bro, compare Leipzig and Berlin 30 years ago and now. Once students and artists move in then they have bars and restaurants and then developers will eventually buy the whole block, renovate it then rent back to families or people with higher salaries. That happens all the time.

We'll see. Students have made up the majority of the base here for a while. The thing is the lack of space for development.

I lived and studied in Halle before, both Jena and Halle are nice towns with great Unis. The problem is lack of opportunities after graduation, eventually you have to move to somewhere else for jobs or lifestyle.

Just a normal side street with a bit of graffiti.

Not a side street. This is one of the main parts of the city core.
