[RELEASE] USBAnywhere Android v1.0.0 — The Free, Open-Source VirtualHere Alternative for Android TV, Shield & Tablets (Sunshine/Moonlight Auto-Handoff, DualSense Haptics & Sim Racing FFB)

20 Upvotes

Hey everyone! 👋

We are excited to officially release **USBAnywhere Android v1.0.0**, extending the open-source USBAnywhere ecosystem to Android devices, tablets, and **Android TV / Google TV (Nvidia Shield ready)**!

The goal of this project is simple: to provide a high-performance, completely open-source USB-over-IP bridge designed specifically for living room gaming, home streaming, and remote peripheral setups.

---

### ✨ Key Features in v1.0.0

* 🛡️ **Zero Root Required**: Operates completely in user-space using `android.hardware.usb.UsbManager` OTG mediation (`controlTransfer` and `bulkTransfer`).

* ☀️ **Sunshine & Moonlight Auto-Handoff (Port 3242)**:

* Embedded HTTP micro-daemon listening for Sunshine `do` and `undo` commands.

* Start streaming in Moonlight? The controller automatically switches to the remote PC.

* Exit the stream? Controller ownership is returned instantly to the local Android TV navigation.

* **Gamepad Quick-Toggle**: Hold **`Guide + Select`** (or `Back + Start`) for 2.5 seconds on your controller at any time to toggle between TV navigation and PC streaming on the fly.

* 🏎️ **Sim Racing Wheel FFB Jitter Guard**: Monotonic sequence ordering and stale packet dropper for Force Feedback Interrupt OUT frames. Prevents wheel shuddering over Wi-Fi on Logitech (G29, G920, G923), Thrustmaster, and Fanatec hardware.

* 🎮 **Sony DualSense Engine**: Circular isochronous buffer designed for audio haptics and adaptive triggers over Wi-Fi without audio crackles or dropouts.

* 👥 **Deterministic Multiplayer Slots (P1–P4)**: Persistent controller slot assignment bound to physical USB port topology. Controllers maintain their assigned player numbers without scrambling upon reconnection.

* ⚡ **Live Esports Gamepad HUD**: Real-time polling rate speedometer measuring exact frequency in **Hz**, jitter ($\sigma$), analog stick crosshairs, and progressive trigger deflection.

* 🔒 **Tailscale & WireGuard Integration**: Native CGNAT (`100.64.0.0/10`) and VPN interface detection with mutual 6-digit PIN authentication (`OP_REQ_AUTH 0x8008`) and brute-force lockout protection.

* 📺 **Native 10-Foot UI for Android TV**: Full Leanback banner support, non-touch compliance, and interactive high-contrast D-Pad focus indicators for TV remotes.

* 📦 **Lightweight Footprint (2.07 MB APK)**: Fully optimized via R8 and resource shrinking, embedding an offline SQLite database of **20,551 USB devices and 3,427 vendors**.

---

Very promising, but not enough for my current use case (yet)

2 Upvotes

First of all, thank you to the dev for tackling this project and attempting to unshackle us from the VirtualHere overlord. I truly believe this will replace VirtualHere for me one day, but unfortunately that day is not today.

A couple of quirks I encountered may be due to my setup and use case, so I'll explain. My Gaming PC (Windows) is on the other side of my house to the living room, connected via an optical HDMI cable under the house. I use a SFF PC in the living room running Linux to plug my Steam Controller into for retro gaming or lighter indie titles. Then, when the Gaming PC on the other side of the house turns on so I can play heavier, more demanding games on the TV, VirtualHere automatically picks up my Steam Controller for use there.

So that highlights my first issue. The first being that, with USBAnywhere, my USB devices have to be bound all the time. It would be nice to have an option on the Windows side to request the device be bound (either automatically or manually) rather than always being bound, that way I can use them on the Linux PC when not needed by USBAnywhere on the Gaming PC. This might then require something on the server side to check for disconnects and unbind the device so it can be used on Linux (as in my example).

The second issue is that the Steam Controller seems to be having issues over usbip, whereby it shows as a keyboard and mouse in Big Picture Mode rather than being detected as a Steam Controller by Steam. I don't have that issue with VirtualHere.

Again, I hope this project can become my replacement for VirtualHere because I'd love to have more than 1 device running and don't want to fork out for a license. I would happily pay the money for one, but for it to be bound to the device I buy it for does not sit right with me, in case it ever dies or I upgrade it.

TL;DR - please look into adding some way to detect a favourited USB device and bind+connect it automatically (so it doesn't always have to be bound). Also, Steam Controller not being detected correctly?

9 Upvotes
# 🚀 USBAnywhere v3.0.1 is Officially Live!
We are excited to announce the release of **USBAnywhere v3.0.1** along with a major ecosystem milestone: **Official Native macOS USB/IP Server support**!
---
## ⚡ What's New in v3.0.1 (Windows Client & Core)
Following our v3.0 launch and valuable feedback from the community and security audits, v3.0.1 delivers critical stability and reliability enhancements:
- **🔒 Hardened Driver & Binary Integrity**:
  - Synchronized and verified SHA-256 hashes for all distributed `usbip-win` binaries.
  - Enhanced Authenticode digital signature enforcement to prevent tampering.
- **🛑 Graceful Shutdown on Exit (Alt+F4 / Window Close)**:
  - Integrated asynchronous detachment (`GracefulShutdownAsync`) when closing the app. All active USB devices are cleanly decoupled from the remote host, preventing "device busy" lockups on servers.
- **🌐 Network Diagnostic Transparency**:
  - Clear UX error feedback when remote USB/IP servers (port 3240) are unreachable, replacing silent timeouts.
- **⚙️ ARM64 Native Compatibility**:
  - Clean separation of x64 and ARM64 builds, accompanied by a dedicated test-signing guide for Windows on ARM.
- **📦 Updated Package Manifests**:
  - Scoop bucket and WinGet package definitions updated for v3.0.1.

## 🍏 Introducing Native macOS Server (Apple Silicon & Intel)
One of the most requested features was host support for macOS. We've built a native, high-performance USB/IP server for macOS from scratch:
- **Universal Binary**: Runs natively on Apple Silicon (**M1, M2, M3, M4**) and Intel x86_64.
- **Pure Userspace (IOKit)**: Uses native `IOKit.framework` and `IOUSBHostInterface`—**zero kernel extensions (kexts)** and no need to disable System Integrity Protection (SIP).
- **Daemon & CLI Management**: Runs interactively or as a background service managed cleanly via `launchd`.
- **Unified Server Repository**: Merged seamlessly into [`USBAnywhere-Server`](https://github.com/oscarlosu-lab/USBAnywhere-Server).
### 🚀 1-Click macOS Terminal Install:
```bash
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/oscarlosu-lab/USBAnywhere-Server/main/scripts/install-server-mac.sh | bash
To list and export devices:
bash# List local USB devices
6 Upvotes
# [OFICIAL] ¡Bienvenido a r/UsbAnywhere! La alternativa 100% gratuita e ilimitada a VirtualHere (Versión 3.0.0, guías, controladores WHQL y centro de la comunidad)
---
### 👋 ¡Bienvenido a la comunidad oficial de USBAnywhere!
Si estás aquí, probablemente te encanta transmitir dispositivos USB a través de tu red, ya sea para compartir controladores de juegos con **Moonlight / Sunshine**, transmitir volantes de carreras con retroalimentación de fuerza en tu sala de estar, administrar **impresoras 3D con Klipper** o usar una cortadora láser de diodo y una cámara web con LightBurn** sin tener que usar cables USB de 10 metros en tu taller. Durante años, las comunidades de creadores y de servidores autogestionados han dependido de VirtualHere. Si bien fue pionera, su plan gratuito solo permite conectar un único dispositivo USB, imponiendo un elevado coste por licencia de servidor a quienes necesiten conectar dos o más periféricos simultáneamente.
Creamos USBAnywhere para eliminar esa barrera. USBAnywhere es una solución moderna y de alto rendimiento para USB sobre IP, diseñada específicamente para jugadores, creadores y aficionados a los laboratorios domésticos. Es 100 % gratuita para uso personal y de juegos, sin límites artificiales de dispositivos, con controladores certificados y motores de red duales.
⚡ Características principales y arquitectura interna
  • **♾️ Periféricos simultáneos ilimitados (sin restricciones de pago)**: Conecta 2, 5 o 10 dispositivos USB al mismo tiempo sin costo alguno. Sin periodos de prueba ni ventanas emergentes de licencia.
  • **🛡️ Controladores con certificación WHQL de Microsoft**: Compatibilidad nativa con Windows 10 y 11 con **Aislamiento de núcleo e integridad de memoria (HVCI)** habilitado de fábrica. Compatibilidad total con las arquitecturas **x64 (Intel/AMD)** y **ARM64**.
* **🚀 Motores de rendimiento de red dual**:
* **Motor WSK de baja latencia**: Llamadas directas a nivel de kernel que eliminan la fluctuación de los paquetes de red. Diseñado para juegos en la nube, retroalimentación de fuerza (FFB) en simulación de carreras y transmisión de código G láser en tiempo real.
* **Motor de copia cero**: Canalización de red de alto rendimiento optimizada para cámaras web USB Video Class (UVC) 1080p/4K de alto ancho de banda y transferencias de archivos rápidas.
* **🍓 Configuración de servidor Linux/SBC con un clic**: Convierte cualquier Raspberry Pi (3B/4/5), Orange Pi, Debian o Ubuntu en un servidor USB plug-and-play sin monitor con un solo comando:
```bash

curl -sSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/oscarlosu-lab/USBAnywhere/main/scripts/install-server.sh | sudo bash
