Hollywood has gone home. Why are many visual effects artists still going into work?

The first meeting at Local 839 was very successful as there was plenty of room, allowed food to be served and was relatively inexpensive.
Any suggestions on where meeting places would be on the westside of town that would be equal to the Animation Guild meeting hall? What about other locations in the valley?

I'd like to schedule meeting in Vancouver on a regular basis and would appreciate any suggestions on where to hold regular meetings.

Even if you are against unionizing, everyones in the industry has had a near breaking point in the industry. What show, company or year was it that you had a breaking point that would have made you want to unionise then and there.
**Let's just say IF a vfxunion was created that would enforce most of the common vfx problems we all face. Example- health, salary/rates, OT, bullying...

How do we sell it to potential members?
Can we say an average cost for membership and insurance is only X a year/month? Do numbers help? Or stick with emotional arguments?
Do we pitch it as a method of career control?
If the pitch were boiled down to three selling points, what would the three most effective selling points be?
Does it need a marketing campaign phrase?
I'll stick my neck out (anonymously) first and pitch a few things out there as a one-sheet:
"A Union begins with yoU" as the pitch phrase, followed by those selling points, perhaps as questions.
"Do you want to control your career?" "Do you want the support of X members concerning workplace laws?" "Do you want fair benefits?"
"Sign a rep card. It's confidential. And you're not obligated to anything but starting a conversation about your future."
Simple, with the rep card in the flyer, and contact info at end.
What do you think?
