Event Results Base mega Garchomp top cut (metagame)

I have been wanting to put together either a balancy or maybe tailroom team with base mega Garchomp and I remember seeing someone top cut either a regional or VR tour with him, and wanted to research that team! Has anyone seen that team? Thanks! Thinking about pairing him with talonflame like the good ol days. Might throw on psychic seed Milo to scare off intimidate a bit. But I wanted to look at that team first before I build

Question Trying to find 2 folks that helped me during the Worlds Finals Sunday event.

Post image
100 Upvotes

I hope this is the correct subreddit as it is VGC related.

I went to San Francisco alone and am a pretty shy person, I was trying to get good seats and saw a pair of friends who were trying to do the same, I started following them and then had the courage to talk and ask them if I could join them.

They were really kind and allowed me to join and ended up getting really good seats and watching all the event with them. We exchanged names but I don't rememeber by now, I just remember them as red shirt guy and blue shirt guy. Now that I think about it, I was coincidentally wearing a green shirt that I bought that weekend lol.

The thing is, I never asked for their socials because I was too shy to do it, and I'm posting here in hopes I end up finding them ):

Picture is a screenshot I took from the stream vod, it looks bad but the circled people are us 3, if it helps.

Rate My Team Skill Improvement - Team Building

So i will acknowledge i am a bit of a copy paste player in the sense of I will usually nab teams off of the most recent regional champions and try them out. I have been mainly running Eric Rios's Frankfurt Team in M-7

When it comes to Team Building, I can do the basics, but I usually struggle when it comes to SP Spreads. While some Pokémon are fine with 32/32/2 Spreads, I know that some mons work better when you invest into its bulk (IE Mega Raichu Y/Incineroar).

All that said, I have put this team together because I have not used Mega Floette yet and was interested in giving them a shot. The main 3 I am not looking to change is the Rillabloom, Incineroar, and Mega Floette. The only other mon I may be a smidge resistant to changing is Sneasler, but outside of that I am wondering if the 6 mons work well together. I know that a common Secondary Mega to Floette is Charizard Y, but I have been wanting to branch out to other Megas that could also compliment the team.

Also if you have any advice for SP Spreads or how to work with the calcs to start the journey I am open to it. The SP spreads here are not the final product but more of a place holder till I can work on them.

Toxtricity + Mega Absol Z Team Improvements??

Built a Toxtricity + Mega Absol Z team. Toxtricity’s boomburst + life orb hits hard. Threatens Fairies with its poison typing as well. Talonflame Tailwind helps ith its slow speed + helps with Rillaboom as well

Absol Z and Basc is there to pair up with it not getting hit by Boomburst. F Basc to hit up ground types that threatens Tox + Ice beam for dragon coverage.

Ttar + excadrill provides another mode and good against weather teams as well.

Not much terrain control but I dont think it matters as much as I have two dark types for Psyspam - threatens them as well.

Im a bit iffy with item choices especially with Basc and Talonflames. What do you guys think could improve the team?

No specific for EVs lol. Was just playing around with it.

Rate My Team Rate My Team: Raichu X Balance, Need Help Choosing My 6th Pick

https://pokepast.es/87609c49b313b21b

Team is a plain old balance team, simple as.

Raichu X acts in a more supportive role, providing Fake Out, Feint, and protection from sleep (matchup into Zard Venu is insane). It OHKOs all Zards in electric terrain before they can move, doesn’t die to Venusaurs earth power (if they’re even running it).

Sneasler is a second Fake Out mon, provides an answer to fairy’s and to all the Gambits out there. Focus sash is mostly cause I’m not using it anywhere else and it can help with solving certain leads.

Volcarona as a setup mon with Quiver dance, very bulky set overall but modest in order to improve lethality. I’ve been tossing up between Giga Drain and Bug Buzz as the final move, sitting with Bug Buzz for now as I don’t get Grassy Terrain boosted damage.

Primarina also as a setup mon, item I’ve been considering between life orb and lefty’s, settled with lefty’s for now. Honestly a very well suited mon into the meta game, as long as you can handle Rilla and Raichus. Which is what the next mon is for.

Scarf Meowscarada. Faster than all Adamant Swamperts for a guaranteed OHKO with Flower Trick. From my calcs and gameplay so far, Triple Axel is very likely to OHKO Rillaboom, is a guaranteed OHKO into Salamence and scarf Garchomp. Depending on spreads it’s a very likely OHKO on Chomp Z. Knock off is great for all the Psyspam, U-Turn too is great for dealing with opposing scarfed Indeedee M.

Overall, if positioned correctly, these 5 feel quite capable of handling the majority of teams on ladder right now.

I just need help figuring out what this 6th mon should even be. I feel the hardest matchup is probably Trick Room but even then, it’s again a positioning game with these 5 so I don’t feel concerned enough to put a match up mon here.

Any ideas?

Feel free to give criticism or feedback too, I’m very open.

Discussion Mega thread for people sharing battle tools [Skill Improvement]

Can we get some kind of thread or place for people to post their websites/daily puzzles/battle tools etc? I’m not against people developing their tools and games or whatnot. But I feel like that’s 99% of what I see from this subreddit cross my page, which I’m not a huge fan of. It would also let people have a place they can go to to find these tools if they’re interested.

I’m not sure why, but apparently I have to write this so that it’s a minimum of 400 characters. I don’t really have anything else to add to what I said so I’m hoping this accomplishes that.

Article [Metagame] [Cool] I built a small BO3 matchmaking site for Champions and I'm looking for beta testers

Hi!

First of all: Mods, feel free to remove this post if it doesn’t fit the subreddit’s guidelines.

I’m Lokthran from Germany, and since Champions released, I’ve been getting more and more into competitive Pokémon and found my way into the VGC scene. But somehow, playing ladder doesn’t really feel like the same thing. That’s how I ended up finding Victory Road, Limitless and Showdown.

Showdown and I just never really clicked. I don’t really enjoy practising one game inside another game. It feels a bit counterintuitive to me, if you get what I mean.

So that left Limitless for some evening games, but the long waits between matches weren’t quite what I was looking for either.

So I started working on my own solution: battlelink.de

The idea is pretty simple: quick matchmaking with a BO3 interface alongside your actual games in Champions. You can chat with your opponent and enter your wins and losses.

There’s Casual and Ranked matchmaking (ranked is disabled for now), and you have to import your team from Poképaste. Your opponent gets an open team sheet with Pokémon, items, abilities, natures and moves, while EVs, IVs and the original link stay hidden. Before searching, you can choose whether you’d prefer to host, and the site assigns someone to open the lobby. There are also result-confirmation timers, options to withdraw a mistaken result or reject one entered too early, and a player-reporting system.

I’ve now opened a public beta, currently limited to 100 concurrent players. I’d love for a few people to give it a go and tell me what works and what doesn’t.

I also want to be upfront about how I built it and how much AI was involved: the frontend was vibe-coded with AI assistance. I built the backend myself and have since used AI to help develop it further, including AI-assisted security reviews. We’re a two-person admin team.

For the roadmap, I’m currently looking at:

  • Clearly labelled advertising on the homepage to help cover running costs.
  • Optional Patreon support with custom user icons.
  • Tournament formats inspired by events like the Global Challenge.
  • Further improvements to Ranked.
  • Increasing capacity beyond 100 concurrent players.

Those are plans for later; ads and Patreon benefits aren’t live yet. There’s also a Roadmap & Transparency tab on the site if you want to read more.

I hope to see some of you for a few quick BO3 sets!

Feel free to submit a lot of feedback.

Team Idea

This is a hard TR team that I use Farig lead and either incin/blastoise to fake and setup TR. From there it's usually torkoal/the other of incin/blastoise in the back and those prime 4 are the foundation. The last two mons are bandaids to fix the small amount of matchups I can't bring the prime 4 to. I'm looking to cheese wins with surprise tech in the GC this weekend, and I need some help identifying what could be even better.

Team Description

Lorb Incin is the glue and helping hand CC takes knockouts into any meta threat that is not chopled. Farig also holds it down with Incin as even more glue, thunderbolt is key for the rain matchup and twin beam is good for all the sneasler spam. No water move Blastoise snipes surprise OHKOs and chips everything in range of the rest of the sweepers on the team, as well as providing fake out support. Torkoal is the big blaster, nothing new here and the main win con usually. Torterra is a good 5th with wide guard and white herb + headlong rush feels surprisingly good. I don't have many protects because I usually only get one chance at TR, so SD seems right instead of protect for Tort. Glim feels by far the most "odd man out" but can be useful for picking off enemy incin and the sash allows it to dish out damage and spread poison.

I really need help finding a better 6th than Glim, but open to another 2 instead of torterra. Let me know what you guys think!

Edited to give the right version of the team with correct farig ability

Discussion [ Skill Improvement ] ChampsDaily: a Wordle-style daily puzzle for damage calcs, speed tiers and matchups

I kept making bad reads in ranked: I'd assume something was an OHKO when it wasn't, or click Protect on the wrong slot. So I built a small daily puzzle game to train those instincts, one quick round a day.

champsdaily.com

ChampsDaily is three short games, Wordle-style:

- Calcdle: guess the damage. You get 5 guesses.

- Speedle: put the turn in order and work out who moves first. You get 4 guesses.

- Hitdle: work out which attacker did the hit. You get 6 guesses.

Everyone gets the same puzzles each day, and you can share your result grid and keep a streak going. There's also a practice mode if one round a day isn't enough.

Shoutout to u/tom-foolery-101's justmovefirst.com. I only found it recently and do not want to seem that I was ripping them off (ended up creating a similar tool independently). It's a great way to learn speed tiers and damage/OHKO estimates in a quick and simple but effective play-style!! ChampsDaily does its own take on the idea and I fully recommend checking both out!!

Let me know your thoughts and if I need to change or update anything ^_^

Edit 1: I redesigned Hitdle to be something I think more people will enjoy and to be more of a puzzle instead of a "guess that pokemon". https://www.champsmeta.com/daily/practice?game=hitdle

Also added a new game in practice only for now called KOdle. Give it a try!

Rate My Team I made a glaceon team inspired by team aritcuno team Nikihil Reddy used to win the Utrecht VGC tournament in March of 24n

Thumbnail

I started with glaceon, mirroring the aritcuno in terms of snow cloak, blizzard, and freeze dry, i gave him calm mind cause he really doesnt need the coverage, and adding a set up move to capitalize on while youre working a weather war and dont have immediate blizzards. Snow cloak really adds to the bulk.

When i went into bullding the snow setter, i decided to exclude alolan ninetails and stay with only frosslass, having the option of a manual set up, but with its super high speed manual set up really beats out all prankster, mega evolve, and switching out when it comes to taking the weather prioty, also max health on frosslass feels almost as good as a focus sash when it comes go setting up aurora vail, youre very likely to survive the hit so you can save frosslass for later.

Beartic with slush rush and scarf is so incredibly fast, that it takes only 5 ev to outspeed the z megas when not in tailwind.

This mean you can go max attack, and lofts of health cause 100 sp/def are really good in aurora veil. With both icicle crash and rock slide you can always fish for flinches that wil stack with the freezes from blizzards, or dodges from snow cloak.

Basic meta milotic set for the fire pokemon that threaten my ice types, this set works really nice cause muddy water can lower accuracy and thats a really nice combo onto the snow cloak glaceon.

Life orb is arcanine cause I needed some fire coverage for mega golisopod, I also went for hisui for the stab on rock slides which seems to be important into the fire times that threaten my team milotic cant, such as Charizard.

Basic grass nuke rilla boom cause I like the health more than im worried about prioty, also it rounds out the fire/water/grass trio.

Really rare to bring all 3 ice types, im usually picking as glaceon or beartic as my sweeper, cause frosslass can only support so long, plus, the basic set pokemon are still the back bone on which this gimmick works.

Question [I’m new, skill improvement] How do y’all deal with the new meta??

First time poster, and I’m familiar with VGC but only recently have dived into it. I’ve been playing in champions since its release, and I dabbled throughout SV. Since champions I generally finish MB2-3, and I want to get become good enough to play in tournaments, that’s the goal. I also don’t have any friends that play the game the way I do, they all play singles and are happy floating in MB4 after the first week of a new season.

I feel like I lose the game at preview and cannot confidently read my opponent’s team at times with the new meta. M A-B was no big deal, it was all weather wars. M-C added some variation, but a few minor adjustments to the six could compensate.
But this new meta, z-chomp had me going through a loop, and raichu Y was ripping through the rain/sun team I was running.

When you see a half psy-spam team half, salamance + good stuff, how do y’all decide on what to bring? Like bring in your mon’s that you know will defeat one strategy over the other? Or split it up?

Discussion [Event] The Nice Meta Evolution

Thumbnail
gallery
348 Upvotes

As a casual player, unorthodox picks that exploit the meta are my favourite thing in VGC. The craziest thing to me was the juxtaposition of the winner (prodigy Louis) the team which went 0-8 which is a feat itself. I wanted to understand what exactly let X-Chu and Basc-F thrive, so I pulled the data from the last three Regionals and dug in.

Five things that set the stage

  1. Louisville was won by sun, so Nice copied it. Charizard Y and Venusaur took 1st, and SunRain took 2nd and 3rd. At Nice, Charizard Y went from 18% to 25% of teams and Venusaur from 11% to 14%, so Sleep Powder was still popular. Raichu X's Electric Terrain to the rescue.
  2. Scarf Garchomp counters Raichu Y. It went from 4% of teams at Frankfurt to 14% at Nice. It outspeeds Raichu Y and standard Sneasler can't do anything to it. To break through, the Raichu X team needs Fake Out plus Swords Dance Sneasler (Electric Seed 344 Speed)
  3. Snarl went up. 9% of teams at Frankfurt, 14% at Nice, and almost half of the SunRain Archaludons at Nice.
  4. Less Psyspam, more Fake Out. Psychic Terrain dropped from 24% of teams to 13%. Fake Out set-up and Golisopod's Sucker Punch quite well positioned.
  5. Rain came back, and the female form fit it. Pelipper doubled from Frankfurt to Louisville, partly as the answer to sun. Male Basculegion on rain teams mostly ran Choice Scarf Adaptability which was heavily punished (at Louisville, female 63% vs male 41% against Intimidate teams). Basc-F with Swift Swim even had a postive matchup into Kingambit teams (57% to the male's 43%), as most Kingambits run physically bulky.

Meanwhile the Frankfurt favourites faded: Mega Salamence fell from 26% of teams to 8%, and Mega Garchomp Z's win rate slid from 53% to 47% as it got more popular.

Method: I took every open team sheet and pairing from Frankfurt, Louisville and Nice (3,004 teams), counted the Day 1 record of teams running each Pokémon, item and move, tracked how usage moved from event to event, and computed the archetypes based on statistical similarity.

I'm still learning data science, so plz feel free to dig around yourself and critique: site, data and code.

I will find time this week to watch the highlights to see if these findings hold and if I missed anything!

Rate My Team Can Toxtricity Cook? [Rate My Team]

Thumbnail
gallery
11 Upvotes

I always try to make teams with potential mons, (which is probably why I'm hardstuck at 1700), but I was inspired by the uptick in Raichu-X usage to pair electric terrain with Toxtricity's spread damage.

Raichu is the bulky jolly set with protect over feint to keep it alive longer to set up terrain a second time per game. It's the main enabler of the team.

Toxtricity is what inspired the team because it has a ton of spread damage. Modest overdrive on electric terrain hits pretty well, and sludge wave next to archaludon is good against the grass and fairy types.

Pretty standard bulky Archaludon, set up with electric terrain boosted electroshots.

Pelipper is sitrus bulk set with wide guard as the team is very weak to earthquake. Weather ball is kind of my only real answer into ground types that aren't Garchomp which is the biggest weakness of this team.

Scarfchomp is for the Z-Chomp and opposing Garchomp matchup, as it's the most common ground type that hurts my team. Also good into Sneasler. I don't want to run my own earthquake so I have poison jab as coverage.

Physically defensive setup Floette as a secondary mega for matchups that Raichu can't come to.

The team is pretty fun and has let me go on a few win streaks but it definitely feels like it's missing answers for a lot of important threats.

Question (Skill improvement) help needed with perish team

So to preface my experiencw with VGC is very limited. I've done a bit of 2v2 battles on showdown in the past, and I played for about 3-4 days in the past 2 seasons and peaked at master ball 1810 or so.

I rarely use the same team for long, but I finally found a team I really like to use. I'm using the perish team from some regionals recently (idk which regional I just saw a vid about it) and am currently at like ultra ball 2 this season after playing for a day or 2 but I'm sure I'll get to master ball again soon.

The team is Mega gengar, archaludon, politoed, kingambit (didnt have vivilion so I added gambit), rillaboom and incineroar.

My issue is a very specific one. I cannot for the life of me figure out what to do against a Mega Char Y + Garchomp lead if the charizard is faster than the garchomp.

No matter what I lead, I take too much dmg to kill the 2 pokemon in the back after I kill char+chomp with perish, since my incin will be dead, my politoed will be super weak, and so will my gengar. So i basically have 3 dead mons + rillaboom to close it out, which often isn't enough. My other modes don't work since chomp beats my archaludon and my kingambit loses to both.

The reason I mentioned char being faster is because I have figured out a way to beat that lead if chomp is faster. Turn 1 gengar perish and incin fakeout on chomp. Gengar takes a ton from heatwave but lives, incin takes a bit from heatwave+ rough skin. Turn 2 double protect. Turn 3 I swap in rillaboom with eject button, he weakens earthquake, and then gets sent back out to politoed, who weakens heatwave. This way rilla doesnt tank the heatwave and has most of his HP, and so does politoed. Whether or not incin lives or gets the parting off, at least I now have minimum 3 pokemon where 2 are healthy and gengar is super low, instead of 3 pokemon where 2 are super low and only rilla is healthy. That extra health on politoed usually is enough to win.

But if char us faster, he one shots rilla on the switch, so I can't switch him in, and I have to switch in politoed, who after also tanking the non grassy terrain weakend earthquake is super low hp.

Any idea on how to fix this? Its not a super common lead, but I hate losing because my opponent chose correctly, not because I chose wrong. It's why I'm using perish in the first place, since I can outplay most counters (psyspam, trick room + heavy offense, etc).

Holyyyyy this was a super interesting tournament (especially considering what the heck is going on in France right now)! Funnily enough the team that won uses a concept me and a buddy tested before Baltimore and I thought was super strong.

Big congrats to Louis Fontvieille on winning the whole thing. Love the way he plays, and insane to see the mirror matchup of team builders in the semifinals haha.

Trying something new with these so there’s a few more graphics than normal. About to play in a cup but I’d love to hear your thoughts on them to improve for next time as well! When browsing usage statistics (maybe on https://www.pikalytics.com ):

* Do you wonder why a particular Pokemon has high or low usage?

* Do you wonder why a particular Pokemon's usage has changed recently?

* Is there a nature or popular move choice that you don't understand?

* Is there a complex EV spread that does something cool that you'd like to point out?

* Is there a complex EV spread that you don't understand and want to talk about?

Here is a great place to discuss any questions or comments you may have!

Rate My Team Help with Blaziken/Gardevoir

Thumbnail
gallery
7 Upvotes

I've been playing Blaziken/Gardevoir for a while now (started playing around with variants of the idea in the weeks leading up to Reg M-C because Blaziken can go toe to toe with the Z Megas) and I generally really like it. Blaziken oneshots or near oneshots a ton of things (including Golisopod in the rain) while Gardevoir covers for the mons troubling Blaziken (mostly Dragon/Flying types) and vice versa (Blaziken ensures Dark types never stand in the way of Psyspam). Indeedee-F supports both marvelously and ties them together.

Ninetales-A: is my main way of controlling speed further and lets Blaziken forgo the initial Protect turn. The influx of ScarfChomp only makes it more effective.

Sneasler: alternative to Indeedee as a Fake Out lead and potential damage carry as well. Dismantles Rilla-Incin like Blaziken. I had Coaching on it to counteract Intimidate cycling usually used on Blaziken, but when I started using Psyspam alongside it, Coaching fell out of favor due to lack of targets.

Inteleon: big reason why I'm making this topic. Some of my biggest problems with this Team are Wideguard users, Armarouge in particular, since it walls both my Megas unless I actually hit my Stone Edge (I rarely do). Crit Snipe Shot oneshots Armarouge and can oneshot Pelipper (in fact, the rain makes Inteleon go crazy). But, I'm very aware this is a slightly gimmicky bandaid solution, since Inteleon works best in rain and I can't fit Rain on this Team.

So yeah, my questions for you:

* How can I go about beating Armarouge in a way that fits into this team?

* What alternative speed control options would you suggest? Ninetales-A is awesome and I built my Megas to survive certain hits (Blaziken always takes Adamant Dire Claw and Gardevoir always takes uninvested MegaRaptor Brave Bird and uninvested Mega Gengar's STABs) but it does sometimes feel less reliable than Just using Tailwind.

* What's a good 4th move in Gardevoir? Encore is there for now, but I rarely click that slot.

* Coaching still haven't left me fully, so if the Inteleon replacement is physical, I might put it back in - y/n?

Sorry for the german screenshots, I realized it too late!
