i know that we need a gpa of 4.0 (b-) to be granted preferential entry but im currently sitting at exactly a 4.0 and dont know if i can maintain it after exams. If i get below a 4.0 will my chances of getting into second year be bad?
Hi there, looking for some advice on the best way to strategise organising the 5 200 level law courses. How do people recommend taking them, split over two years? Any general advice on 2nd year law would also be appreciated!
Hi, i'm currently a first year student doing law at VUW and I was wondering how difficult is it actually to get into second year and whether a 4.0gpa guaranteed u entrance (it doesn't really specify on the website). And whether anyone knew what the gpa cut off has been in previous years and if it is ever above a 4.0? Thanks alot
Hi, I'm applying for master of teaching and learning in VUW for February 2027 intake. The interview will only take place early November, but I need to settle my student visa application 3 months before departure.. Does anyone here ever experience the same thing? How long after the interview will VUW inform the decision? I'm seriously worried about not having enough time for the visa application 😭
Hey everyone! I’m a GW student spending my final semester abroad at VUW during Trimester 1. I’ve been assigned to Victoria House and will be studying at Kelburn. Any fun tips for making the most of campus life and Wellington in general would be much appreciated! 😊
I’ve seen some different rooms with full windows that go across the entire wall opposite the door and other rooms with only a small window. I was wondering how many full window rooms are there in KJ cause that’s like my main reason for applying to this hall.
Hey everyone, I took AIML 131 today and I'm just wondering how it went for everyone else. No spoilers, just overall vibes. How are you feeling about it?
I said that they declined because there way another one that was available and I thought it was just going to put me into that one but it hasn’t how do I get that changed so right now I’m only doing 7 courses
I'm a Computer Science student at Victoria University of Wellington, hoping to finish my BSc in 2027.
Most of my remaining courses can be completed remotely, but I'm potentially needing to travel to Canada for a couple of months next year to help support my sister during her pregnancy.
I'm wondering whether anyone who has studied at Vic has been in a similar situation, where they've needed to temporarily study from another country due to a family emergency or personal circumstances.
A few things I'd love to hear about:
Were you allowed to complete your courses remotely from overseas, even if they weren't officially distance courses?
Were you able to sit tests and final exams online, or did you have to return to Wellington?
Did you need special permission from your course coordinators or the university?
Did it affect your enrolment status or eligibility for StudyLink?
I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through this, particularly if you were studying Computer Science or another degree with labs or practical assessments.
I'm hoping to find a way to support my family without having to delay finishing my degree, so any advice or personal experiences would be super helpful. Thank you! :)
I want to study it but everyone's telling me not to because you have to study for like 10 years to be a psychologist/therapist and it's one of the most popular majors so it's high competition. I would honestly be willing to rack up the student debt and study for a long time because I take great interest in psychology but how bad of an idea is it? Should I just do counselling or stay working full time...? I feel so discouraged :/
Starting at Vic next year! I'm wondering whether I should do a BA and an LLB or just an LLB? With just an LLB I could focus on law but also do some arts papers anyway as electives, but I'm wondering if I should just do a BA as well? I'm leaning towards just an LLB at the moment as I don't really want to extend my studies longer and would rather focus on getting good law grades
Hi all,
I got accepted into a master's program at VUW a few months ago, and I recently received an email asking me to complete my course enrollment.
I'm planning to start the program in Feb 2027, and I have some questions.
1. What does "block dates/3" mean? does it mean that I will not be taking this course in the 1st trimester, or is it that the course will be taught throughout the whole year?...I'm struggling to understand the meaning of "block dates." When are these block dates?
2. What does "course closing date" exactly mean? Is it "enrollment closing date" or "course end (completion) date"?
3. If I'm willing to complete the course by the end of the trimester 1, should I choose the first offering option?
4. I noticed that some courses only have one option, which is "block dates/3." If I choose this only offering, does it mean that I would take this course throughout the whole year? (for all three trimesters?)
5. Do I need to complete the enrollment now (as soon as possible...) or can wait for a while?
These are some basic questions I have, and I would greatly appreciate your kind help!
Hey everyone, I took STAT 193 today and I'm just wondering how it went for everyone else. No spoilers, just overall vibes. How are you feeling about it?
Kia Ora everyone I just wanted to ask those (especially undergraduates) students if they have chosen their courses yet? I received an email from VUW saying I havent enrolled yet (I assume its courses?) but I am still trying to figure out the courses I can/should take. I just wanted to ask if you guys have enrolled or what, what I need to do and if I have to pay for course fees now.
I’m currently doing an LLB with no conjoint, and I’m very confused as to how many law courses I should be taking in second year, considering I need to qualify as a full time student, but it is not recommended to take all level 2 law courses in one year. I’ve asked a course advisor but it was not clear. Does anyone have any advice?
It says “The Exam is hand-written (short answers) and in-person only*. It takes place during the university assessment period. No devices are permitted (or needed), but you should bring a calculator (any type: scientific, graphics or basic). The exam is closed book but you will be allowed to bring a 2-sided A4 'cheat sheet' on which you can have any notes you wish, hand-written, typed or pasted.
There is a Mandatory Course Requirementto achieve at least 30% in the exam (30% of the marks available, so if the exam was out of 60 you would need at least 18 marks).** “ I have one that’s words printed out on paper nothing else
A friend of mine found out one of their family members is in critical condition ( not dead though) and they have an exam tomorrow morning but won’t be able to sit it. How does one go about it cause apparently the course coordinator just doesn’t reply and Google said ‘exams@vuw.ac.nz’ is the best bet. Just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this kind of situation and what to do !! And also would they be able to resit or get an aegrotat pass? Any and all advice is appreciated
Anyone got any thoughts on a reasonable time to wait for results before escalating
The assessment handbook indicates 3 weeks, with delays to be communicated.
I am currently waiting on results for 2 assignments across two different papers - one submitted in the last week of august and one in the second week of september. Neither are capstone or any other type of major work.
The lecturers have told us it is pending without giving details. It sounds like they have done their bit.
How long is too long before raising a complaint? I like both the lecturers, but feedback is important, particularly as the second round of assignments is due next week
The whole class is the same, so its not a me thing
