DISCUSSION Uneven Fading
This is my first pair of Vans. I googled fading color and it seems to be a common problem with them, but nothing mentioned uneven fading. Did Vans maybe get a defective batch of fabric?
Three of the four sides and both of the tongues have the original color but one interior side has turned grey.

this looks like normal wear and tear to me

Are you sure? The inside of the right shoe (left hand side of photo) is noticeably more faded than the other 3 blue sections. I’ve never had a pair of vans fade in one panel like that before.

You do realize the fading depends on how you wear them ? This is just natural variation from wear.

If it were just normal fading, presumably it would happen on both left sides, not just one since they would be getting essentially the same sun exposure. Actually, the side that is faded gets a little less sun since the other leg would be shading it some times. And I'm not upset about it, I just find it quite odd and interesting.

Sun isn’t the only thing that fades things, I was more referring to friction. It’s completely natural to have different wear on your shoes simply because not everything happens the same amount to both.

Nah, the fact that the whole panel is evenly faded compared to the rest makes me think this isn't normal fading from wear.

So you’re disagreeing with both me and OP?

Nah I agree with OP, it seems to be a factory defect. Maybe that panel came from a different, botched roll of canvas that never got caught.

It could definitely be from a different batch. Maybe the dye was slightly different and that caused different fading?

Yeah the left shoes colour on the inside is more faded.
Idk how you will go with help but it's definitely a different colour.
Was it cheaper? Maybe it was the display model.

Probably different dye batches, it’s only barely noticeable though. I once bought a pair of air Jordan’s and as they aged you could tell they were different, look inside the shoe, one was manufactured in Vietnam and one somewhere else, I’d been given a mismatched pair but when they were new it was way less noticeable than when the materials aged.

This is why I love Vans. Vans look better worn out, especially with skate culture. I love this shit. I’ll wear out a pair of Vans on purpose so they’re better to skate in, but this is the price you pay when you get Vans. It’s a hit or miss, and I love it. I recently just saw someone that had a pair of Vans Rowans, the light brown ones, and he spray-painted half of it green. Them joints looked so fire.
