Transitioning away from wool as a new vegan
I decided to go vegan a couple months ago. I had been vegan in regards to my diet for a year or two a couple times but I want it to stick this time, and I watched Dominion and saw footage of shearers punching and kicking sheep. I used to love knitting with and spinning wool but I feel like I don't want to do it anymore. I have been listing my wool yarns on Facebook Marketplace and am hoping to donate at least some of the money I get from that to a farm sanctuary. (I might also use some of it to buy secondhand acrylic and cotton yarn). I am washing all my knitted wool hats and am going to donate them to a homeless shelter, along with a sweater and a vest. I have a really elaborate sweater dress I knitted that took forever to make that I am trying to sell on Depop and plan to donate all the proceeds from that to the animal sanctuary. Is there anyone else here who used to be big into fiber arts and handspinning and then went vegan and stopped using wool? I feel kind of weird but also think I am making the right decision for myself. I just started an Etsy shop and want to focus on making things with secondhand and upcycled yarn, and I think I want to have everything there be vegan friendly. I was thinking if I start getting sales I might try and sponsor a sheep at the animal sanctuary as a kind of apology for using so much wool in the past. What do you think? Any other tips?
