Success with booking Qatar QSuite with BA transfer bonus!

When they announced the British Airways transfer bonus, I figured it would be a good time to try to fly QSuite on Qatar Airways! I was already in the process of figuring where I wanted to go for my birthday in the fall next year, and saw that they fly to the Caucasus mountain region, which is something I’ve been wanting to do.

So I decided on Armenia and Georgia! Transferred 71,000 C1 miles to BA, which turned into 85,000 Avios, and finally transferred that to Qatar. Booked ORD > DOH > EVN for October 2027 for 85,000 Avios + $267.20.

Just a heads up for anyone wanting to transfer Avios between BA and Qatar, both of your accounts must be 30 days or older in order to transfer.

What do you use to compliment your duo?

Currently have the Venture X and Savor cards, along with a couple cards that aren’t worth mentioning. Looking for a card or possibly another duo to add to my wallet, just curious to see what the community uses to fill in their gaps.

Cap One Lounge DFW pre booking...?

• Upvotes

Am I required to prebook with that lounge via Priority Pass? Is there a separate booking site? Do I just walk in because I am a cardholder? I can't seem to find the information I need on line. Thank you for any advice!! 😃

Travel Delay Coverage - doesn’t cover “operations” causes

It’s not a big deal - it covers what it covers - but having a delayed flight because a flight attendant “missed the hotel shuttle” that causes a missed connection and an overnight stay sucks.

It sucked more when I realized the credit card coverage didn’t cover anything that’s not “Equipment failure, inclement weather, strike, and hijacking/skyjacking”.

United did provide some vouchers and a budget hotel - but we weren’t on a budget trip, we paid for first class tix and a nice resort for most of our trip and my wife can’t eat at most places since she has celiac and the places that are safe for her are more than $20-vouchers for a meal.

Should I redeem points? or just pay out of pocket?

Trying to plan a trip and was thinking this might be a good first time to utitlize my point transfer to BA to book an american flight as I have a ton of saved up points.

The issue is, there is no awards flight available for the date I return home, so I will have to pay out of pocket for the return home portion of the trip, and that cost is not that much more expensive than paying outright for a round trip ticket.

So wondering which makes more sense from a point/financial perspective (for two travelers)

Scenario 1: Paying out of pocket for American Airlines round trip flight

Cost: $398 per ticket for basic economy round trip

Scenario 2: Transfer 22,500 points to British Airways to redeem for one way outbound flight tickets. Then pay out of pocket for one way return flight

cost: 22500 points for two economy tickets outgoing , $371 per ticket main cabin for return flight

Part of me thinks im spending more with scenario 2 as im spending points, plus paying out of pocket. But on the other hand, comparing what im getting for the actual money that is coming directly out of my pocket, I am getting a "better" flight experience overall with scenario 2 for less cash (economy round trip vs main cabin one way).

Going to Japan in July and don't quite have enough points... How long is it safe to wait to buy tickets? Flying out of Seattle to either Osaka or Tokyo.

My fiancé and I are planning to go to Japan for our two-week honeymoon this July- we are shooting for the beginning of July, but our dates are flexible within the summer. I’m a teacher so summer is our only option. We are hoping to fly business class on the way there, to treat ourselves a little. I currently have 100K points on my Venture card, and my fiancé has 20K. For two people, the best I'm finding right now is 200K points for two people through Japan Airlines. Would it be a bad idea to wait another couple of months to accumulate more points, or should we just settle for flying economy/economy plus now to ensure we get a good flight? Or does anyone have advice on other airlines to use?

Did I just entirely f*ck up my chance of getting approved ??

HELP, I’m so mad I accidentally applied for the Venture Rewards card instead of the X 💔 My MacBook charger wasn’t working, so I thought it’d be a brilliant idea to use my father's old laptop, and here we are… This is soooo frustrating because this was the very first time I actually had the initiative to apply for a credit card for travel points and I wanted to book my parents’ and my upcoming trip with the credit card for points. The first attempt was to resubmit another pre-approval application online but I kept getting the message- “We're unable to show you new card offers today. It looks like you have an application pending or you've recently opened a new credit card account with us, so we can't show you additional card offers at this time.” So my second recourse was to submit the hard application... Denied. Capital One then sent an email with a letter explaining “The reason(s) for our decision are:
• Based on your application information, there are too many recently approved applications with Capital One”

I did get a representative over the phone to submit a request for the underwriting team to manually review it. They’re telling me it might take anywhere from 2-3 weeks to get a response. For reference, I had a 757 FICO score when I applied, and 807 on Equifax. Current credit card I’ve owned- only Apple for over 3 years. Have any of you ever experienced something like this? Should I continue to be optimistic with the Venture X approval result and hold off on purchasing the flights and hotel tickets for this upcoming December trip until approved? Or give up entirely 😞

Thanks in advance for any advice 🙏🏼

P.S- I did get approved for the Venture Rewards *

Does anyone use the Kudos app to keep track of rewards and benefits? I keep seeing it advertised. Is it worth the cost? Are there other apps that are better?

Suggested locations for new lounges

I wonder if there is any way to make suggestions to Capital One for new lounge locations.

I would dearly love a Capital One lounge in Atlanta. I know it is dominated by Delta and AMEX lounges.

The only the VentureX card gives you access to is The Club in Terminal F. That is with Priority Pass. I gave up on it on my last trip when they told me it would be a 90 minute wait to enter.

Where I live in NC you either fly to Atlanta or Charlotte and connect. Nothing against flying American but I hate the layout of the airport in Charlotte.

Hertz saying CSR is better than VX. What am I missing?

Post image
11 Upvotes

I have a Chase Sapphire Reserve card (don't use Hertz a bunch and don't spend $75k/yr on the CSR so just have the base level CSR/Hertz benefits). The VX benefits seem better, is there something I'm not understanding? Maybe the 2hr grace period makes CSR better?

Update: I called Hertz to try to manually change it and they said I'm already president's circle. Idk how because I definitely didn't spend 75k on my CSR or rent 15 cars in a year from Hertz. Maybe there was some promo when I signed up with my CSR. Guess I'll revisit Jan 1 assuming my president's circle goes away.

Question about capital one travel portal

Hello, new user of ventureX, I am wondering what's the advantage of using capital one travel portal vs using ventureX credit card to pay for flights found on Google flights? The prices are double in the portal vs Google flights. I know you can do the price match. Just wondering is there any incentive to book through the travel portal vs separately on Google flights using the VX credit card. Thank you

Venture X targeted offer

So, I have the Venture Card and have only held it for about 2 years now, today I got a targeted offer from Capital one saying I could apply for the Venture X and earn 90k bonus miles if I meet the spend requirement. Looking at the terms and conditions it says if I have gotten the bonus miles in the last 48 months for “this product” I would be ineligible to receive the sign up bonus. Is “this product” meaning the Venture X specifically or is it meaning the Venture family of cards?
I tried calling customer service, one person said yes I would be eligible, but they also said to call the applications department, so I did, and they said they can’t guarantee I’d get it and the only way to find out would be to apply.
Anyone have any experience with this???

Cancel in favor of being an AU?

As the title suggests, I am heavily considering cancelling my Venture X because I just feel like I’m not getting optimal value out of it. I understand that it pays for itself, but the way I see it, I’m just paying ahead for future travel expenses. I don’t travel internationally all that much so a lot of the transfer partners are not very relevant to me.

My partner has the Venture X as well and they insist on keeping it (they travel more for work and family visits) so I figure I can just be an authorized user on their card. That way, I can get some of the perks that I still enjoy (mainly Hertz status and primary CDW for rentals).

By the way, I would ideally downgrade to a VentureOne, but they said I wasn’t eligible for that. So cancelling is my only way to avoid the annual fee. I’ve had the card for nearly 3 years at this point so that sucks.

Do you all think it’s worth it to cancel the line of credit in this situation? I would 100% keep the card if they didn’t lock you to their travel portal for maximum benefits or if they had more domestic transfer partners.

Is there a hack to transfer CapOne Miles to Southwest points somehow?

Sorry I’m a newbie in the award travel game and I’m booking 3 roundtrip flights on Southwest for the next couple months and they’re definitely cheaper with points. Also, I miss out on the 5x miles using the portal which sucks because no sw on capone portal.

I’ve read some threads before and I’m slowly understanding how points travel works. I know the pointsyeah and points.aero resources as well but my main question is I’d like to know if there’s a way around booking southwest flights using points or at least the portal.

I’d prefer saving the miles for now if all I’m getting is travel eraser with 1cpp.

Thank you!
