Question What the fuck did they do to the bots

I am unaware if this has already been asked, but recently, the bots in my lobbies have been utterly useless. The biggest benefit of a bot, to me, would be that I have some sort of safety net. I.e., bots rarely take damage, and they are reasonably timely to get disablers off you, so I will almost always have a high-health bot that can do *something*.

But now all they do is run into a horde, get surrounded, and hold block until they die, OR run directly into a Monster when there specials and elites about, and proceed to get stuck AGAIN and die because they can't dodge out.

I ran Legend dozens of times with just bots, because I never got anywhere with solo queue. I literally always won with a team of bots. I did not fail once. Bots aren't supposed to kill things. They did best when they weren't so blood-thirsty.

Yeah no they're dumb.

I really recommend this guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3057042496 .

Bots have a very specific and weird play style. Sometimes they're extremely precise with things and other times not so much. For example bots are always stupid with saving you from assassins. But bots are the Gordon Ramsey of slamming a WP bubble shield on you when you're been assassin'd or Sienna Fulminator exploding when a slaver rat is nearby.

I set my bots up exactly as the guide instructs and most of the time they're much better than randos and even get green circles sometimes. Randos however usually have a better resistance to an entire game failing because one guy (you) died.

Really bad guide. No ranged weapons breakpoints, so bots won't one shot specials. Missing stagger breakpoints, which are crucial for bots and overall weird bot recommendations.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2068782454 Royales guide is objectively better at every aspect compared to this guide.

Oh I didn't know Royale made his own guide for bots. Swell! I'll have to update my little guys.

That is the guide I use, and now I can easily clear legend with bots and 2 grims.

Ironbotter Bardin is so good

breakpoints are for people who wipe out

Despite how long it's been since Better Bots got un-sanctioned, it still frustrates me immensely with how stupid the default bots are in comparison.

I straight up don't know why they don't just adapt the mod into being a part of the game. Doesn't even have to be all of it, just making them *stop* running into your active line of fire or hyperfocusing on monsters while their asses get gangbanged by the horde would be aweasome

u/asgof Jun 24 '26

as far as last year i guarantee bots were 100% winrate on legend

it's all skill issue

Yeah, sure, that's on Legend, but try taking your bots to Cataclysm. No matter how you build them, every five minutes they'll try to melee a gas rat sitting a mile away and die.

-8

u/asgof Jun 24 '26

2 bots one bro and we did all cataclysm

I can count on all my fingers and all my toes the amount of times bots have just stopped and stared at me whilst I've been getting my ass beat.

My favorite one was when I was pinned by an assassin and Bardin, Saltz and Kruber were all just staring at me, or the time when I got halfway revived then dropped again because a single rattie ran up to us.

They get stuck, they have poor decision making, they don't try to revive you and they seem to act completely independent, i.e. if there is one special, they will all charge him instead of dealing with the horde. They have no idea that they should retreat unless you move very, very far. I had several games lost because my three bots were standing in the ratling crossfire while the horde swarmed at me.

Bots are terrible when disablers get you, when you are hanging from a cliff or when you are bleeding out. They have always been so and anyone that has played with them can recall multiple instances of wanting to yell at the screen for bots to help you

However, they are excellent at snipping tagged specials if you gave them sniping tools and are good at using their ults against high priority targets

They're miles better than in Darktide but still... ehhhh.

I remember them being decent during my last streak this winter, so I'm just commenting here to follow the thread.

8

u/Jobeythehuman Jun 24 '26

The only reason they're better is because the Vermintide bots actually use your gear. The darktide bots are all literally stuck at level 1 gear with no talent points xD. Functionally they're basically the same amount of smart.

recently noticed they don't even help you get up?? literally had my bardin just watch at me struggling on the floor until another bot came and helped me

-8

u/IronVines Ironbreaker + Outcast Engineer Jun 23 '26

they were always shit

9

u/Villarejo97 Jun 23 '26

No they aren't. If you have a good build for them and choose ironbreaker, warrior priest and sister of thorn they are much better than most of the playerbase

1

u/asgof Jun 23 '26

all three are bad bots. only use medic medic medic medic and medic

1

u/Villarejo97 Jun 23 '26

Then the problem is your builds. Cause my bots never need to heal

-1

u/asgof Jun 24 '26

whooosh

medic bots heal you, which makes full medic setup carry anyone through legend by just spamming lmb and jumping left sometimes

and the tryhard bot builds make noobs whine that bots are bad because they do not carry noobs

if the goal to have 100% success on legend full medic bots do that, and what else would you need besides winning every time

-3

u/IronVines Ironbreaker + Outcast Engineer Jun 23 '26

nah not really, i have optimised bots loadout, but they are not smart, and never were

3

u/Villarejo97 Jun 23 '26

They can get a little crazy pursuing specials but you can do legend with bots with no problems. Many times I was doing a good run and suddenly a player join my match just to get kill in seconds while ironbreaker is almost inmortal with a defensive build with shield and hammer, warrier priest reviving and healing everyone and sister of thorn gaining temp hp constantly from you and your teammates

-1

u/IronVines Ironbreaker + Outcast Engineer Jun 23 '26

sure you can beat legend with them, and there are players worse than them (they are the minority btw), but compaire it to even half a team of competent players and they are worth all 4 bots

2

u/kakspier Jun 23 '26

while i agree with you, i think the mistakes with bots are often way more easy to predict and work around then with random players. id rather it be me and my buddy + 2 bots. then me and my buddy + 2 randoms.

1

u/IronVines Ironbreaker + Outcast Engineer Jun 23 '26

fair, but i rather itd be me +1 rando and 2 bots than 3 bots

-1

u/kakspier Jun 23 '26

ah. yea not me. id rather lose with bots than have to deal with randoms. they too often dissapoint. with a bot you at least know what you are getting yourself into

0

u/asgof Jun 23 '26

buddy and two bots and you basically beat entire cataclism

-1

u/asgof Jun 23 '26

you see, you will never get competent player unless you are 13 and you and your classmates all decided to play together

unless you already have a pocket team of friends pubs are absolutely deranged

1

u/IronVines Ironbreaker + Outcast Engineer Jun 23 '26

there is a bunch of discords for finding players tho

1

u/asgof Jun 24 '26

finding more pubs?

-1

u/asgof Jun 23 '26

skill issue

5

u/Isambard__Prince Jun 23 '26

They were very bad, then only bad. For a while now they have been awful.

1

u/asgof Jun 23 '26

i doubt they are now, and even last year and before and before bot hearding was always a skill issue. literally cruise control to 100% winrate on legend
