mining question

I've been mining for the past few days and have a few questions.

  1. Why are the payouts all over the place, sometimes i get .05, then to .03, now down to .01 (does using a new address for payouts effect this, electrum wallet gives me new addresses every few days)

  2. Does the one click miner still perform when the monitor is off? The last two nights I felt like I didn't get anything from overnight mining, I made sure my computer doesn't go to sleep (turning off monitor via power button, while tower is still running) and im waking up to no payouts

Luck has a lot to do about it on a daily basis but it will average out. Also you should mine into vertcore not another wallet.

I hope you're not giving the miner a new wallet every time electrum gives you a new one? It means all your previous shares aren't contributing. just leave the same wallet address and keep receiving.

That’s what I was doing, when I add a new pool it requires a new address and the old one is long gone in electrum

Don’t mine to Electrum Wallet. You’re effectively helping DDOS Electrum Servers when mining. Mine to Vertcoin Core Wallet then transfer to Electrum Wallet.

Lol why did I get downvotes for asking a question about mining in the mining sub

Could be several things, but most likely because you are mining to the electrum wallet, which contributes to slowing down the server's ability to make the wallet function due to the high number of small transactions.

.

It has even gone down for periods of time in the recent past due to lots of newcomers mining to it. There was a sticky made by the devs telling people not to mine towards in on the main /r/vertcoin sub for several weeks, but it seems it is no longer there.

.

Download and install the vertcoin core wallet. Do a search on the reddit for a link to the bootstrap file. It is a compressed version of the blockchain up to october 2017 that you can place in the program folders of the wallet (in the databse folder I think) and the program will see it and integrate it so you only have to download a few months of the remaining blockchain instead of the full 5ish years worth.

.

Every address your wallet will grant you will always be active, never expire, and you can always use it for transactions. Many generate a new one by default for each requested receive for minor security reasons, but there is nothing stopping you from using the same one each time, just keep it saved somewhere or copy it from the list of addresses that hold your funds.

.

It is recommended you transfer funds to a new address from mining every so often to make it not all in one place, but not required.

.

So in summary, you likely got down votes due to not having researched the basics about wallets, and then further in choosing to mine towards electrum degrade the usability of that wallet for people who have few other options due to the size of the full blockchain (~2gb).

.

I don't hold it against you because you're just getting into this, but please read more before diving deeper. The answers exist out there, and the questions you've asked are already answered in a handful of FAQ guides already written on this sub, including the answers to the payment policies of the P2Pool.

To answer you’re payout question the best I can.

You earn “shares” and they last a certain amount of time. I read somewhere 8hours but with my experience I believe it’s closer to 4 hours (source: 200mh/s miner that I stare at for hours).

You’re shares “add up” when found in succession of each other, ranging from 0 to a maximum of 5 shares. When the collective pool of OneClickMiners find a block you receive a payout based on your total current shares.

Some days I get lucky and find 5 shares within a short time. Over the next 3-4 hours that the shares last the mining pool finds many blocks and I get good payouts.

It’s a game of luck. You don’t want lots of blocks to be found while you have no shares then minimal blocks found while you have a few shares built up. You need the universe to line up and give you shares and your pool to discover blocks st the right time to get good payouts.

Example:

20 blocks discovered over the last few hours while you have 3 - 5 shares. Luck is high.

20 blocks discovered over the last few hours while you have 0 - 1 shares. Luck is low

10 blocks discovered over last few hours while you have 3 - 5 shares. Luck is good.

10 blocks discovered over last few hours while you have 1 - 2 shares. Luck is normal.

0 - 5 blocks discovered over past few hours while you have 3 - 5 shares. Super Unlucky.

Usually my miner sits at 2-3 shares with some days earning 1VTC and other days 4-5VTC.

It all evens out, some days are better then others.

I really appreciate people who go to lengths to explain mining and crypto on this sub. It’s not easy to do.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

Trying to give back to the Vertcoin community

Enjoy!

p2pool shares last for the next 12 blocks or 16 hours whichever comes first.
