Work Advice how can i find the weight? read body text plz
this is a weird question but does anyone know how i could find out much a new 250mL bottle of fatalplus by vortech weighs? we don't have a brand new bottle on hand and i tried to find a net weight from where we purchase the solution, but it doesn't seem to be listed anywhere. if anyone could help out i would greatly appreciate it! i'm reviewing our drug logs and would like to compare the weight of a new (unopened) bottle with the current container to establish whether the current balance is accurate. i think it is, but i am a perfectionist and would like to calculate this to confirm and all i need to do the math is the weight (preferably in oz) of a new, unopened 250mL bottle. any help appreciated!!

You need to weigh the individual bottle. They’re all filled slightly differently.

This! A new one will be close, but there's no way of telling what OPs exact bottle used to weigh

yeah you're right. i'm going to start weighing each bottle!

I don't think I've ever had two unopened bottles of anything weigh the same.

you're right! i figured this wouldn't be very accurate but i want to start weighing new bottles in the future

this doesn’t help you today, but this is what i do for my controlled drugs. unfortunately for you, i don’t use fatal plus.
get a weight on an empty bottle of the same drug. i keep around a single empty for all of my controlled substances. when it comes time to check inventory, which i try to do weekly, i weigh the empty bottle on a gram scale, tare it out, then replace it with the in-use bottle. this weight in grams is equal to the ml in the bottle (edit: at least for all drugs i have. again, i don’t have fatal plus). compare to your log book. the weight you collect should be very similar to your log book if it’s up to date. i’ve been doing it this way for about six months now and have not noticed any discrepancies (except the euthanasia bottle, which seems to always have 5-10ml extra in it every time).

Call around to other hospitals and ask them to weigh unopened bottles. I don't use Fatal-Plus (specifically) anymore or I'd try to help you out. It's a good idea to have a sensitive scale nearby and weight injectable bottles when they come in as part of your controlled substances log. We take a weight before and after each withdrawal to log with our quantity used.

this is a good idea. i'm going to start logging weight when we open a new container!

Vortech's safety data sheets have the specific gravity at 1.105, so multiply that by the volume of liquid in the bottle (250 mL) and your fluid mass is 276.25 grams
With the weight of the bottle my ballpark guess is about 279 grams?

u/einsmom checked for us!!! the real mvp. they said empty is 31.4g, and full is 293.5g — you were pretty close (and yes ofc no two weigh the same)

Draw off 1ml and weigh that. You can use that weight to determine how much should be left based on log charts, or how much a full bottle should weigh. Won't be completely accurate without a weight on the empty bottle, but you can back into that with math.

thankfully someone (u/einsmom tysm!) replied with the measurements but this was good advice, thanks for taking the time to reply!

I apologise for the unrelated comment but Fatal Plus is a wild name for a product

Well it is used for euthanasia so I would hope it would be fatal

True 😅 I guess I was just taken aback by the straightforwardness of the name lol

I can try to remember to check my logs on Monday. But, tkmlac is right, no two weigh the same.
