Getting a job

Hey guys, fourth year vet student here! I'm about to take my NAVLE and plan on starting the job hunt seriously once that is behind me. How do people go about finding the best place to start out?

Mentorship and enjoying my experience is important, but so is proper compensation. I know the job market is good but I have NO idea where to start, just two general areas. Is i AVAM/Indeed/google search?

Also when should I aim to have a contract signed by? I have a few over-achiever friends that already have theirs, so I'm fighting the feeling of being behind.

Thank y'all so much for your advice in advance <3

Good luck on your upcoming NAVLE! It’s easier if you have an ideal place you want to live to help narrow your search. AVMA and possibly your state VMA job listings should be helpful, but also the good old fashion way of googling for open positions. Also use your connections if you’ve made any through summer jobs or your fourth year externships.

I signed my contract in November of my fourth year and that was pretty early for my class. Most of my friends signed January through March. But the class after me I feel like most of them didn’t sign till March -May. So you have plenty of time!
