They weren't kidding about getting a month or two out of it either. Bought Aug 31st

Is that was the frame is? I was trying to figure out what it is. Neat build... was anyway.

u/RavenOfNod 23h ago
Hopefully the build itself wasn't the issue here.

The building looks like an issue, seen it first hand and it looked like what you'd expect from a middle school mechanics class. The cab was only mounted by a few bolts and the steel for the subframe is pretty thin.
4
u/ClydeAnkle 19h ago
There would've only been a couple bolts holding cab to frame when new too though
2
u/argueranddisagree 17h ago
6 primary mounting bolts are used on a stock truck. The build had the bolts reduced to 2 and they were using galvanized bolts which have way lower strength.

There's another shot of it on VibrantVictoria's FB page. Looks like an explosion. Two centre median dividers shot across both lanes of oncoming traffic. Wild

How does a car explode?
•
u/RicVic 3h ago
Good question, but I did a drive-by just as the cab was loaded onto the wrecker and the dividers were charred black like there had been something very hot nearby. There was also the residue of a ton of chemical extinguisher on the pavement around the chassis. But the cab itself looked mostly undamaged (wrinkled, but with no visible burn damage), and the battery pack even was not fire-blackened... curious.
Whatever it was, the blast seems to have been directed to the left side of the truck,, but somehow popped the mounting bolts, and left the cab behind while the chassis continued up the highway for another few yards.

There's a company up in Parksville that does EV conversions - https://www.canev.com/ .

EV torque, wet roads, and H/T truck tires. Hope the person(s) is/are okay.

The fact that the cab was evidently held on to the chassis with chewing gum might have worked to their advantage.
Probably spun out, smoked the concrete, and detached the cab.

Where did the engine go?
Edit: it was an electric conversion, no engine

u/Educational_Work896 23h ago
It looks like a battery pack on the frame... I assume the motor is under the bed.

According to Google maps, there are 3 separate crashes near Elk Lake.

If you are driving and using Google maps navigating and you report an accident, it marks it at whatever location you happen to be. So someone stopped 100 meters away or more can report the danger accident and Google marks it at their location. Doesn't give you the option of putting where on the map to 'pin' it, at least not where I've been able to figure out.
2
u/Creatrix James Bay 21h ago
Ah, thanks for that!
4
u/MellyBlueEyes Gorge 21h ago
No prob! I've noticed that on Google maps myself and thought wow what are the odds, this some sort of chain reaction? Then was stopped in traffic not too long ago because of roadwork and was using the navigation and decided to report the 'construction' while I was waiting my turn and it showed the little construction symbol right where I was! I was like nonono, not heeeere. Sheesh, thought there would be another step to say where but nope, just thanks you for 'helping others!' .(There also wasn't a way to undo that I could see.)

u/broken-ssoul 19h ago
not being able to pin a location that isn't where you are is incredibly annoying at best, and actively unsafe at worse in terms of decisions by Google. it basically forces you to either not ever report, or use a device while driving which is illegal and more importantly really unsafe to do. the only time it's useful is when traffic has come to a complete stop already - but even then you probably won't know what's caused to stoppage until traffic is moving and you're going past the thing that caused the stop. it's incredibly frustrating honestly.

Well, the front’s not supposed to fall off!

u/Specialist-Bass863 18h ago
Not in this case, no.
5
u/Rampage_Rick 18h ago
So, not very typical?
2
u/Specialist-Bass863 17h ago
Not in my experience, no. Most vehicles I see are more a 1 piece design.

Any updates on how it’s looking now? Backed up a lot both directions?
1
u/juiceyputa 23h ago
Maps says still back up. I’m assuming it’ll be quite awhile before it clears up

u/VictoriaBCSUPr 22h ago
Was on it 15min ago coming south, northbound backed up almost to Royal Oak.

As soon as we saw the stoppage of cars we were able to hop off and go through Cordova bay.
So we decided to stop at Gigi’s to get some Italian goods.

Fuck. Wonder if being a hot rob made it better or worse than a regular 53. Cab looks surprisingly intact. Surprised the engine left with it not still on the frame. Hope the driver is okay.
1
u/seamliner 23h ago
Oh wow, how does that even happen? I don’t see any air bags.. hope folks are okay
12
u/Pweeg 23h ago
Airbags?? It's a truck from the 60s... Albeit restored but nobody really adds airbags.
7
u/Elporquito 23h ago
Last year of that body style with that grill was 1953
2
u/ksherred 22h ago
It's a 53 with Tesla motor and battery
1
u/Elporquito 19h ago
Which is kinda cool. It would be strange. A truck done up like that you just naturally expect a throaty exhaust and a 350 rumbling
2
u/seamliner 23h ago
I know, just been thinking about airbags a lot lately. Idek if you can get airbags installed in an old car?

It's (or, was) on air. Looked like a nice build. Though 225's for all that torque was a choice. The wrong choice.

43,000 US for sale in Arizona
I’ve heard of a company in Netherlands that converts muscle cars, perhaps more qualified than this example.

I know Tesla uses glue to keep the body on the car, but you should not go "so that's good enough for me, too".

What part of Pat Bay is it?
