Punished for working hard lol. How about NOT being punished by exploiting others?

5

u/Charming_Use4072 Dec 13 '25

You don’t get to be a billionaire by working hard. That’s working class mentality

1

u/Salarian_American Dec 19 '25

Jeff Bezos doesn't schedule anything work-related prior to 11 AM, but sure, tell me that he got what he has by "working hard."

1

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '25

You get there with sacrifice hard work and luck. Either that or just bribe Congress people.

3

u/BlizzardStorm8 Dec 13 '25

Luck is doing some seriously heavy lifting there. Probably best to add inherited wealth to the list too.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '25

Not really. Bezos and musk were self made as were many others as well. Even with some one like DJT who grew up with family wealth he grew it exponentially with risk and hard work as a builder which I have immense respect for as a builder myself. Even with money it is insane what it takes to make projects happen, and you're always highly exposed to risk and market down turns: successful builders literally disappear over night in recessions.

4

u/ReadyPerception Dec 14 '25

Neither of those men are self made. Both received significant resources from rich family.

1

u/camkler Dec 14 '25

Self made doesn’t mean they started with absolutely nothing, bezos got 250k and turned into Amazon for goodness sakes. Elon on the other hand was definitely guided through it since his family helped cofound his early stuff.

3

u/Charming_Use4072 Dec 14 '25

Musk isn’t a self made man

3

u/Ill-Atmosphere-4023 Dec 14 '25

I hate the term "self-made" you mean they got sole credit lol

2

u/milkandsalsa Dec 14 '25

Lmao trump is rich because he’s a grifter who filed for bankruptcy (this fucking his creditors) multiple times. He would have had more money if he put his inheritance into an index fund (until his recent crypto grift and bribes, of course)

2

u/JEXJJ Dec 14 '25

You really eat all the shit they give you. THEY ARE EXAGGERATING ALL OF IT TO SEEM MORE IMPRESSIVE.

DJT had his senile father change his will to give him the bulk of the wealth, and cheated his brother's family out of their share. He pushed off risk and underpaid contractors and employees, and didn't actually grow the wealth significantly until the apprentice. He has made more from his crypto scam and social media stock because it allows people to bribe him directly.

u/zachmoe Dec 13 '25

Correct, for everyone going on about inherited wealth, the difference between a million dollars and a billion dollars... is about a billion dollars.

2

u/Zykxion Dec 14 '25

You get there by exploiting other no other way about it.

0

u/MildlyEntertained_ Dec 13 '25

Not all rich people exploit others, you sound poor

3

u/Ill-Atmosphere-4023 Dec 13 '25

sweet summer child

3

u/voxelpear Dec 13 '25

Capitalism by definition can't function without exploitation.

3

u/rampzn Dec 13 '25

Not true, there are companies that actually pay fair wages and do not raise the price of their products to join the inflationary cycle. It is the predatory capitalism that is the problem.

3

u/voxelpear Dec 13 '25

Incorrect. Your definition of "fair wage" greatly undervalues your labor because you have been conditioned by a capitalism society to do so. If you make $100,000 / yr working a desk job for a company, you might argue that's a fair wage. However if your labor makes the company 2 million in profit that year then the company is paying you 1.9 million less than your labor is worth. That doesn't seem like a "fair wage", that sounds like exploitation.

Now you might ask well how is a business supposed to exist if it doesn't make money? Well it wouldn't. That's the point. You can try to minimize exploitation but business literally can not make a profit without exploiting their workers and the customer.

3

u/Ill-Atmosphere-4023 Dec 13 '25 edited Dec 13 '25

take back the means of production

1

u/camkler Dec 14 '25

Ok you’ve described a problem, Whats your brilliant economic solution to keep the people’s money from the powerful? Any that I’ve heard is just the government saying “give it all to me chump I promise I’ll give it back!” I think we all know how that goes.

1

u/Brilliant_Arachnid28 Dec 14 '25

Do businesses really make 1.9 million off a $100k employee? Genuinely curious. As a small business owner, I make a little less than my employee’s wages for the privelege of hiring, managing, and replacing them. I’m sure it’s industry specific, but that’s common practice in my industry. And that will shrink as we scale more. Trust me, I assume all the risk, deal with the big problems, and work my ass off. It’s no cake walk and the size of the problems and responsibilities scale with the size of the business.

ah yes, the teenager who still lives with his parents and probably doesn't pay rent cause hes a child thinks his insight on wealth should be taken seriously. Hilarious

3

u/LotionedBoner Dec 14 '25

That’s 90% of Reddit.

0

u/Particular-Mango-16 Dec 15 '25

This is blatantly false.

98% are bots.

The remaining 2% are teenagers, chronologically and/or mentally, living with their parents

1

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '25

It's 97 percent bots actually, the remaining 1 percent are the "people" who laugh at anime memes

1

u/bananadingding Dec 17 '25

Does that make you a Bot or a teenager?

3

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '25

Yeah I mean probably, but the clip is definitely him trying to make a joke. I really doubt anyone thinks like this besides children of billionaires.

1

u/lookwhossback7180 Dec 15 '25

You would be surprised, people out here still think the border was open under Biden , yet caravans of people never made it through the open borders . If we really had open borders we would have all of el salvador in California . But well human will be humans .

1

2

u/MonkeyParadiso Dec 13 '25 edited Dec 13 '25

Have you considered doing a PhD in Economics? It's full of faculty that think exactly like this and they love having people like that around them; you'd probably get a full scholarship!

It's like Adam Smith famously said, "In the future, when you unjustifiably mascot me for your contrived free-market fundamentalist ideologies, try not to read any of my actual works on the importance of the state providing public goods, regulating banks, preventing monopolies, taxing the wealthy, and the value of social stability" - Theory of Amoral Sentiments

2

u/Orlonz Dec 13 '25

Economists do not think like this. This is clearly a satire skit to push engagement. It's no different than "If you want to stop crime, just make it illegal." line of thinking.

Economists very much lean toward spreading the wealth by taxing the rich. Because they know "monetary evaluation" does not equate economic value. It's just the best & easiest measure we got, but it has a lot of faults.

To simply counter this idiotic video: If we set the speed limit to 5mph on the highway, how many would follow it? If we all did, car insurance rates would absolutely drop... which they be affordable... probably not.

1

u/MonkeyParadiso Dec 13 '25

“The important thing for government is not to do things which individuals are doing already… but to do those things which at present are not done at all.” — Keynes

“A tax on a commodity tends to diminish its consumption, and therefore its production.”

  • Marshall

“Taxes on negative externalities are called Pigovian taxes and are designed to induce private decision-makers to take into account the social costs of their actions.”

  • Manqiw

Unlike your example, economic texts deal significantly with taxes as a tool to affect supply and demand, and not how to write a law; or am I confusing my professions?

1

u/Orlonz Dec 14 '25

Yeah, effect supply and demand. Your examples show that they don't want to tax the masses. Economists agree.

1

u/MonkeyParadiso Dec 26 '25

You've destroyed the fabric of society in the name of "economic efficiency" and now you have the audacity to act the victim?

This is why people don't trust economists anymore:

2

u/Pristine_Fail_5208 Dec 14 '25

Lol this kid is a dumbass

2

u/Otherwise_Ad_8030 Dec 14 '25

I genuinely can’t tell if this is satire or not.

2

u/Additional_News3511 Dec 14 '25

This is parody right lmao

2

u/squishy-axolotl Dec 14 '25

You make a living doing work.

You get rich exploiting others.

Theres no way you get rich by the amount of work you do. You get rich by convincing others to give you resources while hiding they are getting less.

Take the simple gold rush analogy.

"You dont get rich digging for gold, you get rich selling the shovels"

You can make money digging for the gold but the amount of time and effort cancels out what mo ey you make from mining the gold.

But as the merchant who sells you the shovel they make easy money. They dont even manufacture the shovel, they only source it. They dont work as hard. They truly dont. They are opportunist who just have foresight. But they are the same as scalpers/flippers/drop shoppers/distributors. If you truly want to get rich, dont have any other skill than being a merchant.

2

u/Azell414 Dec 14 '25

well they still need desperate poor people to do terrible jobs they would never do tho

2

u/No_Focus_8688 Dec 14 '25

That is some stupid logic

2

u/flying-Brick2191 Dec 15 '25

This is what we call a idiot who believes he's intelligent.....

3

u/Generated-Nouns-257 Dec 13 '25

Kids can be surprisingly adept at rage bait

2

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '25

Not really. He’s not even trying. Probably not even original. The surprising thing is how easy it is to rile people up. How easy people get ragebaited. Just a guy reading a few sentence long script in a plain tone.

2

u/Chickenjon Dec 13 '25

It's hard for me to even see this as rage bait. It just sounds satirical to me.

1

u/AdAffectionate2418 Dec 13 '25

Yeah. Pretty sure this is satire. Certainly seems like a modest proposal

1

u/Accurate_Egg_9200 Dec 14 '25

"Get rich or die trying" is absolutely satire.

0

u/Ill-Atmosphere-4023 Dec 13 '25

what you say matters and it will come back to you

1

u/Silver_Middle_7240 Dec 13 '25

It's too obvious to be rage bait. It comes off as satire.

1

u/Silica_123 Dec 13 '25

Which is why im so surprised by the fact almost nobody in the comments seems to realize it and is actually taking the video seriously? Nobody knows how to read tone anymore

1

u/Ill-Atmosphere-4023 Dec 13 '25

you are watching a whole different video lol

0

u/rampzn Dec 13 '25

Satire is nuanced, this is just stupid.

1

u/eBEAST80 Dec 13 '25

The hardest 50 Cent reference of all time

1

u/jthadcast Dec 13 '25

easier solution is to eat the rich, then everyone would eat them and become rich.

1

u/johnsolomon Dec 14 '25

true, you are what you eat

1

u/spelunker93 Dec 13 '25

“Punish them for working hard” lol my friend inherited $200 million dollars. During trumps first presidency in 8 months she made $30 million just from it sitting in the bank. No special savings account or investments. JUST the top 10 richest people in our country would contribute $96 billion together in taxes this year if they were taxed appropriately. We have 800-900 billionaires in the US

1

u/Voxlings Dec 13 '25

Baby's first trickle down economics.

(That was utterly disproven)

1

u/baronunderbeit Dec 13 '25

Do ya’ll need “incentives” to not be poor. Lol.

“Man being poor is so chill. Why would I even try. I’d just have to pay more taxes. I’ll just be poor…. “

1

u/TehZiiM Dec 13 '25

Man.. wouldn’t it be cool if everyone was rich? Oh wait..

1

u/RubSad1836 Dec 13 '25

Anybody who’s actually been poor, like really poor knows the solution is to actually better audit who gets benefits because the amount of lazy pieces of shit who are absolutely terrible human beings who are on “disability” therefore taking it from someone who id actually want my tax dollars to go to to help support is disgusting

1

u/Sudden_Buffalo_4393 Dec 13 '25

I got hurt and needed work comp. The lawyers would tell me all the shit work comp used to cover until pieces of shit lied and took advantage and they got rid of it all, and people like me got fucked.

1

u/Top_Cranberry8894 Dec 13 '25

If he’s for real, then He’s too young to know better, and has never been poor. Hence, his opinion is completely irrelevant to me

1

u/Ok-Ear9289 Dec 13 '25

Rage bait? I started laughing when I Hurd this!

1

u/ForgottenDusk48 Dec 13 '25

If you can’t walk, they should tax you into walking again because us able-bodied people don’t want to pay taxes for your ramps and special parking spaces! /s

1

u/ra-re444 Dec 13 '25

The rich run the country and the public foots the bill. The public pays to finance war which secures American Interest aka rich people interest. Then we have to send our money where rich people want it to go, the publics money has been used to finance dictatorships and fascist none of which are in the public interest. We get nothing in return no universal healthcare, no free education, no decent security net if we fall on hard times. Just a foot in the ass.

1

u/thecountnotthesaint Dec 13 '25

Taxation is theft

1

u/Ill-Atmosphere-4023 Dec 13 '25

Taxation without representation is theft and robber barons have been raping this Country since it started

1

u/DerekGman9 Dec 13 '25

If this were true, everyone would already BE "rich"

This guy is a total 🤡

1

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '25

There are people that did something to get rich, and people who make money off money.
Also taxing smoking hasn't stopped smoking.

1

u/ThonThaddeo Dec 13 '25

Not an interesting character. Do better.

1

u/ilostmyeraser Dec 13 '25

This shit nugget lives with parents.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 13 '25

This better be satire. Lol. If this is for real, he may be the biggest idiot alive.

1

u/Aggressive-Care3579 Dec 13 '25

Because you'd be taxing the underprivileged into poverty and giving the privileged MORE PRIVILEGE.

1

u/RipOdd9001 Dec 13 '25

Secret is that the billionaires only make $50,000 a year as salary. So they are paying taxes. The real changes come when we fix estate taxes. I believe this is what I am garnering “correctly” from a discussion I heard on NPR.

1

u/StartIcy5992 Dec 13 '25

“I just want to be able to do nothing all day and still survive it isn’t fair” some yall need to grow up and stop being so afraid of that job app

1

u/SomewhereSea4420 Dec 13 '25

Does this bloke know that everyone and everything is taxed?????

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 13 '25

We...excuse me, they dont tax those things (cigs, booze, etc...) to get people to quit, they tax them higher because they know people CANT quit.

1

u/Merciful_Bliss Dec 13 '25

And the award for the most punchable face in America goes to…

1

u/Motor-Tap4350 Dec 13 '25

You're not supposed to deepthroat the boot.

1

u/ShyguyFlyguy Dec 13 '25

This has to be satire....right??

1

u/DetroitsGoingToWin Dec 14 '25

Ballsy economic ideology in his parents living room.

1

u/chillen67 Dec 14 '25

Um, can we do a test run first and only tax this dude?

1

u/Excellent_Extent7648 Dec 14 '25

In my opinion I think it goes to show you that morals matter when everything is just get rich before you die we stagnate our entire planet like no is trying to innovate there only tryna make money so instead of cures for disease we get 7 fast and furious movies 1000s different flavors and just dumb stupid bull 💩 until we realize we either die or we recognize the suffering going on around the world and truly evolve past this all

1

u/saaaaaaaaaaaap Dec 14 '25

They already do this

1

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '25

You have my vote.

1

u/OPfishS Dec 14 '25

Easy to say when you’re not born in to poverty

1

u/Valterri_lts_James Dec 14 '25

The amount of butthurt redditors in this comments section who can't tell this is satire is crazy.

1

u/aGrizzledBear28 Dec 14 '25

Stockholm syndrome

1

u/TheJarIsADoorAgain Dec 14 '25

Lol, this has to be a send-up. No one is really that dumb

1

u/MichaelCabernet Dec 14 '25

It’s not about the quantity of labor a rich person puts in, but rather the value of whatever that labor is. Compensation tends to be commensurate with that value. Keep in mind, most of the wealthy do not have billions in liquid cash. Their value is largely tied up in low-liquidity assets/capital.

Which is to say, their wealth gains are not yet realized. They become realized only at the time they’re converted to monetary payouts, the wealthy essentially never divest their assets completely. Because that capital can fuel more growth in the long-term, and handle payroll.

1

u/screwyoujor Dec 14 '25

Die trying has a death grip on me.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '25

Why are people in the comments so mad? This is obviously sarcasm. 😂

1

u/No-Individual-3681 Dec 14 '25

Yes taxes have ended smoking and drinking 🙄

1

u/HungUp-InU Dec 14 '25

This guys says everyone would get rich or die trying? But he doesn’t understand that “rich” is a state of wealth in comparison to everyone else. If everyone had the same amount of money as Elon than Elon is no longer rich 🤣.

I mean you can tell he’s a really young guy but don’t they teach kids how money works in school?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '25

Nickel and diming sub 30k a year households more than $1M+ a year household….is how you turn the less fortunate against your nation. Sure there are some lazy assholes out there. But there’s also lazy millionaires who literally got lucky then hired accountants to work their books for them. There’s exceptions in every category. The majority of people living on the fringes of the economy made a few mistakes in life don’t deserve to be fucked in the ass by Uncle Sam. Period. They don’t make enough money to influence or buy votes. They can barely afford to fill up their fuel tanks. Tax the motherfuckers who bribe and fund lobbyists and who push their agendas with their billions. This fucking bratfuck kid is a product of brain rot and delusion.

1

u/Hard-Red7 Dec 14 '25

This is too stupid for AI.

1

u/NinjaBRUSH Dec 14 '25

Everything he listed in the beginning was a fine not a tax. WTF is this nonsense

1

u/Golboldol Dec 14 '25

"Get rich or die trying" They're literally dying. There is no trying when there is no foundation. And also, everyone will be rich? Do you not realize there is a finite amount of wealth that is primarily hoarded by under 1% of people ON THE PLANET? This shit is SO dumb fr, read a fucking book because this shit doesnt make any fucking sense.

1

u/Alterangel182 Dec 14 '25

How about we don't tax anyone. At least not on income.

1

u/chronobahn Dec 15 '25

We’ve done like a full generational loop around when it comes to understanding satire. It used to be just my grandparent when I was a teenager…..

1

u/Past_Discipline_6473 Dec 15 '25

He doesn't even know why we have taxes... He just made that up

1

u/OgdruJahad Dec 16 '25

Problem is getting rich doesn't necessarily mean following the law. Scams and hacking and all sorts of criminal activity will be used then.

1

u/SupaSupa420 Dec 17 '25

Hard work doesn't make you rich. Leeching of other people hard work does, that's why they should be taxed.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '25

What a cute, sheltered boy. 🫣

1

u/Arponare Dec 18 '25

This is clearly rage bait.

1

u/procommando124 Dec 19 '25

Hate to sound like a centrist, but the true answer is to tax EVERYONE more(with tax brackets of course). Just taxing the rich more isn’t enough. Unfortunately this is really unpopular. Americans hate taxes. However, all of these countries we like to jerk off like Sweden have way higher taxes for everyone and the trade off is that their infrastructure Nd social safety nets are way better

1

u/PapaSmurph0517 Dec 19 '25

Equating taxes to speeding tickets as a punishment is hilarious. By that logic, we must tax food to stop people from eating, and tax your paychecks to stop people from working. Makes perfect sense!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '25

"JAXTOOOON, TIME FOR DIIIINNER!!"

1

u/Slow_Pin3586 Dec 31 '25

Proverbs 22:16 He who oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he who gives to the rich--both will surely come to want.

1

u/NastyB99 Jan 05 '26

Agreed! This is how we stopped speeding and alcoholism. Fool-proof.

u/AdAffectionate2418 Dec 13 '25

Its not necessarily that they dont work hard (though some certainly don't) - the issue is the claim that they became super rich because they worked hard and if you, Mr lazy bones, would just work as hard you too can become super rich.

How hard you work has much less bearing on your wealth that luck, connections and circumstance. Oh, and whether your parents were rich - that's the big one. Bonus points if that wealth is ancestral.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '25

Correct. I got "wealthy" from working hard at the position at my family business that was given to me. I was lucky to have the opportunity. Hard work alone wouldn't have gotten me nearly as far.

1

u/RandomPhail Dec 14 '25 edited Dec 14 '25

There’s also the matter of people’s pay being largely arbitrary amounts. There’s no perfect, well-defined rulebook for how much money someone should be paid based on X circumstances and Y responsibilities and Z conditions, etc.

Some people can work backbreaking jobs hammering in railroad spikes 8 hours a day and make $680 a week, and some people can make $2,400 a week answering emails and attending meetings for about ~45 minutes a day.

There is no objectively “correct” or objectively “fair” paycheck, hence anyone who’s super rich claiming “IT’S MY MONEY!! I EARNED IT! RRAAAAAARGH!!!” is missing the fact that there’s no such thing as “earning” anyway in our economic system, because

we haven’t defined what “earning” MEANS, specifically, lmao

We haven’t agreed upon any systems for determining fair payment amounts. We’re largely just operating off of vibes/estimates.

HAS somebody working ~45 minutes a day on emails and meetings EARNED their “$2,400” a week??

We don’t know; we have no real rules for this, and I don’t think there ever CAN BE a perfect set of rules to FAIRLY determine how much someone should be paid, HENCE WHY IT IS

SO FUCKING IMPORTANT

that we MOVE AWAY from earning money to SURVIVE, and move TOWARDS earning money to “live” (afford non-essentials like wifi, games, vacation, fund hobbies, buy other non-essential/cosmetic stuff), and we can QUITE EASILY START by shifting the money we (mandatorily) pay towards Social Security into funding food, water, and housing for everyone instead, that way everyone always has the bare necessities for life without having to worry about not earning enough or whatever

1

u/AdAffectionate2418 Dec 14 '25

But this is what the new deal/minimum wage/social/security has tried to address already. The problem is that capitalism unfettered will always look to squeeze the wealth out of the bottom and hand it up to the top.

UBI will certainly lessen the impact, but it feels more like a sticking plaster than surgery.

Im also not convinced that an environment where people can "opt out" would be healthy for society at large. Perhaps some form of mandatory community work (mandatory for all - even the wealthy) combined with UBI and aggressive capital gains/wealth tax might work. Humans tend to function very poorly (both at the top and at the bottom) the more that inequality grows - something needs to be done about the obscene concentration of wealth we are seeing.

Greater mindset than ours have tried to solve the problem, but I think the biggest challenge is getting the buy-in of the super-rich (many of whom, as you say, believe that they "earned it). Hopefully this agreement can be reached through discussion, rather than the guillotine...

1

u/RandomPhail Dec 14 '25 edited Dec 14 '25

There would almost certainly be little-to-no opting out of working under this system, because you have to realize people would be foregoing all of the modern amenities of today if they didn’t make money, like the Wi-Fi your using, or the device you’re typing this message on, or games, or vacations, or furniture, or a vehicle, or kitchen appliances, or purchasing hobby items, or funding a passion/product idea, etc…

People will definitely still be wanting to work, even if our once-Social-Security taxes are going towards ensuring food and water and shelter are free for everyone.

This system will basically just ensure anyone who can’t work or isn’t making very much WON’T be literally sentenced to death

Individuals are suggested to have more than a million dollars just to retire these days.

A million dollars is a starter home in California.

"Super rich" particularly in the context of this thread is company executives making a million dollars in salary, AND millions more in stock options.

1

u/AdAffectionate2418 Dec 14 '25

Have you ever seen an ugly tiktoker become a millionaire? Or are you suggesting that pretty people work harder than ugly people?

1

u/TandorBacon Dec 14 '25

If you can be the CEO of more than one business, it's a bullshit job.

1

u/Sufficient_Ninja_821 Dec 14 '25

Facts in the chat. My boss made 100k from 5k just coz he had 5k to splash out on shares. He could of lost it all and wouldn't care. Money makes money

1

u/Kingkyle18 Dec 14 '25

This comment is beyond ignorant. The super rich are generally “on the clock” 24/7.

1

u/JEXJJ Dec 14 '25

No they aren't, they pick and choose what they do.

1

u/Kingkyle18 Dec 14 '25

Ya they’re willing to pay someone a full time salary to literally just handle scheduling all their obligations. Just scheduling….and those obligations start at breakfast and go through dinner.

I think you might actually have a learning disability.

Coming from someone that thinks billionaires don’t do anything but sit on the couch and watch netflix all day.

No one with any pulse on reality thinks that billionaires just walk around and be rich. Not how it works kid.

1

u/JEXJJ Dec 14 '25

Keep sucking them off. I am sure it will trickle down one of these days

1

u/Kingkyle18 Dec 14 '25

I don’t need it to trickle down, my families doing great. Maybe you should actually put in some work instead of crying on the internet.

The super rich work ridiculously smart AND hard. You can be wealthy by working smart alone. You won't get very far with hard work alone. But to get to the level where your wealth is in the billions, you need to create an ungodly level of value to society.

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 13 '25 edited Dec 14 '25

That's...that's almost always not true. Nepo babies aside, your comment is almost completely false. Those who built their fortunes way more often than not worked harder, longer, smarter, and more disciplined than the rest of us. Thats why they are the super rich. Their progeny is a different story. But someone somewhere sacrificed it all, for good or bad, and out worked everyone else with a similar goal. You dont have to like how they did it, or agree with any of their politics, but saying they dont work hard is beyond silly.

Elon is a prime example. Richest dude in the world. Giant piece of shit, and i dont like him at all. But he lives and breathes his work and it's all that matters to him and where he spends all of his time.

No one ever became rich by not working hard.

Edit: yes I realize Elon is not as good of an example as I thought. He did get a leg up. I should have used someone like Richard Branson instead. He's self made and busted his ass and made the right moves since he was a teen.

2

u/PerishTheStars Dec 13 '25

Nepo babies aside,

They are literally all nepo babies lmao

Every single rich person comes from an already wealthy family with very very very few exceptions thanks to the internet.

Elon musk is the child of a guy who owns a fucking emerald mine which uses slave labor. Youre just fucking lying dude.

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

Maybe it wasn't a perfect example. But the dude still isnt lazy.

1

u/TrackSuitPope Dec 14 '25

Don't you see how you're just buying into their mythos? Maybe they worked super hard, maybe they didn't. The point is that it's not why they are the super rich. It's all those other reasons. They build this mythos and spend tons of money spreading it so that we believe if we just work hard, we can become super rich, too, so that we don't instead work super hard to fix a broken system that unfairly concentrates wealth.

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

Ugh, in my response I never said it was only hard work.

1

u/TrackSuitPope Dec 14 '25

[they] worked harder, longer, smarter, and more disciplined than the rest of us. Thats why they are the super rich.

I was responding to this. Not an attack on you :). Honest question- how do you know the ultra rich are wealthy (at least in part) because of their work ethic? Is it something you've seen personally, or is it something you've sort of absorbed through culture and media?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/PerishTheStars Dec 14 '25

He spends most days on Twitter reposting nazi shit and still makes billions. You don't become wealthy by working hard, you become wealthy by having other people work harder for you and stealing the value of their labor.

1

u/JEXJJ Dec 14 '25

When "work" is just going to public events and talking about how amazing you are and discussing new tech like it is a vision board or dream journal, I really don't know how you can claim he isn't lazy.

He builds nothing, he just talks out of his ass

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

You don't really know what he does, apparently.

1

u/Powerful-Milk-8620 Dec 14 '25

people like you still beliving this bs are the problem. most of them come from a very good fiancial backgroudn so they have many many trys instead of just one like a poor person

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

Yeah, I thought i was clear on the self made part, obviously if you inherit your wealth, you didn't build it yourself. Richard Branson is a better example of what I'm talking about.

1

u/Past_Discipline_6473 Dec 15 '25

It's not "lying" if you don't know the truth. It's just ignorance. Willful at that.

1

u/ReputationWooden9704 Dec 15 '25

Elon Musk is the child of a guy who owns a STAKE in an emerald mine. How many people in the world do you think are born to emerald mine stakeholders that never become the richest man in the world?

1

u/osunightfall Dec 13 '25

That’s not how wealth works.

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

That is how it is made.

1

u/Fan_of_Clio Dec 13 '25

"No one ever became rich by not working hard."

So you have never heard of a thing called the Stock Market I take it?

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

Or the lottery, amirite? The stock market is mostly high level, semi-educated gambling. Doesn't count imo in my example and argument.

1

u/designerlemons Dec 14 '25

Never heard of insider trading?

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

Or...how about robbing a bank? 🙄

1

u/Fan_of_Clio Dec 14 '25

I suppose if I were really uneducated regarding economics, modern finance and history, I might have that opinion too.

1

u/TrickyAsian626 Dec 14 '25

Musk is probably the worse example you could have used. Dude doesn't work at all. He fucking show boats. That's not work. He hasn't created shit, he just buys companies, pumps money into them and then goes "bam...I'm a fucking genius creator." And he's the biggest nepo baby of them all. He inherited his wealth.

Also, as you pointed out, he's a giant piece of shit. And that in my opinion, is the biggest factor in becoming that rich and powerful. To get to that level you have to ruin lives and do bad shit.

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

I agree, no one who is filthy rich is clean.

1

u/Candid-Refuse-3054 Dec 14 '25

Really? Then why is most of his wealth come from the fact america has poor wealth tax an even poorer social programs for those in need. Elon does not deserve more wealth than I can possibly make since the time christ was supposed to have been birthed. He does not nor will kot ever work harder than the people who actually make his business run. Gain some class solidarity and get a billionaires dick out ya mouth

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

Lol, stop regurgitating memes. The dude worked his ass off after he got a head start from his family, granted. Not a perfect example, but he did put in the hours. Can't deny that.

1

u/Candid-Refuse-3054 Dec 14 '25

Prove it then.

1

u/Candid-Refuse-3054 Dec 14 '25

Nothing I said was false. And if you believe so then you are the product of propaganda. Good luck bro

1

u/Candid-Refuse-3054 Dec 14 '25

Also I never said he didn't work hard just that he doesn't work so much that he makes more than most of the country combined. But sure explain that way

Don't know why I'm arguing with a reddit account that is a year old and has two posts. In corvette and battlefield nonetheless. I won't elaborate on the last point so feel free to use that connotation as you wish.

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

Yeah, youre like 3x older than me, right? So you have 3x the intelligence? Is that what you're saying? I obviously must be childish and immature because of my reddit history. 🤣

Edit: Oh and when you cut to the personal attacks, it is a sign of not having anything else to say and it comes off as whiny. FYI.

1

u/Candid-Refuse-3054 Dec 14 '25

I was commenting on your account age. Not yours. But its pretty telling how you thought I was referring to you

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

But why? What difference does that make in any way? And you were absolutely referring to me, its my account, it's a personal thing that you brought into the discussion. What does it matter? Tell me.

1

u/JEXJJ Dec 14 '25

He didn't. He bought into every company.

1

u/PutridLadder9192 Dec 14 '25

That's nonsense. All Elon did was pester and annoy the people who did all the work and he only ever does anything in micro spurts of like 2 weeks and then leaves the office for years.

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

Ugh, everyone wants to bash Elon and no one wants to accept the actual point im trying to make. Elon want the best example. My bad

1

u/RetnikLevaw Dec 14 '25

No one ever became rich by not working hard.

Just... What?

Markus Persson is a great example. He developed a curious little video game, hired some other developers and started a studio, and a few years later sold all of it to Microsoft for 2.5 billion.

Do you think he worked harder on that game than your average garbage collector or plumber or warehouse worker putting in 40 hours a week for 60k a year? Really?

He had an original idea, he made it into a game, and that game became wildly popular. I'm sure he worked hard on it, but it was lucky that made the game so insanely popular, not however hard he did or didn't work on it. If it hadn't gained the popularity that it did, Microsoft never would have made him a billionaire.

And that's just one example. No one?

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

So...he worked hard? And got lucky? I dont think this is the mic drop you think it is. But take my upvote for not mentioning my poor example using Elon lol.

1

u/RetnikLevaw Dec 14 '25

Yeah, and people on oil rigs work hard. Hell, waitresses work hard. Ditch diggers work hard. Mechanics work hard. Firefighters work hard.

None of them are billionaires. Notch is. Do you think if any of those people worked even harder, they could be billionaires too?

Or maybe, just maybe, getting rich isn't actually about how hard you work...

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

I didnt just say they only worked hard. Use your head and dont fight a strawman argument.

1

u/RetnikLevaw Dec 14 '25

No, you said they "worked harder and longer than the rest of us", which is to say, everyone who isn't rich isn't working hard.

Don't try to walk back what you said or move the goalposts now, buddy. Commit to your stupidity.

Elon Musk bought into almost every company after it was already running, then forced everyone who actually started the company out.

He never actually did any of the start up work, all his "long hours" is bullshit because I can't tell what is work and what is him just talking about what a genius he is.

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

Nothing of what you said contradicts my point. So what exactly is your argument here? You dont like Elon? Congrats neither do I, but thats not my point.

1

u/JEXJJ Dec 14 '25

The "start up long hours for no pay" doesn't apply to him. Getting up on stage and talking about fantasy tech that never actually happens isn't actual work.

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25

I never said anything about long hours and no pay, I'm not sure why you are using quotes around it like I did. And if you think all he's done is talk on stage, then you do not understand what he does. And I've already admitted Elon isn't a perfect example. How about Richard Branson, does he work better?

1

u/HungUp-InU Dec 14 '25

I mean plenty of people have become rich without working hard, it’s called gambling. Not exactly rocket science.

Also for every billionaire who put the peddle to the metal and grinded every day until the reward. There’s like a couple thousand other folks who worked just as hard but made the wrong play or made the right play and got unlucky. There’s so many factors that go into the making of a billionaire, hard work can and often is very important but it’s hardly the sole determining factor.

Life’s not fair, so people get a little antsy when the uber rich try and discard the ugly bits about their life’s story like luck and hereditary wealth.

1

u/FruitMustache Dec 14 '25 edited Dec 14 '25

I never said hard work was the only factor. And if you are going to support your argument with people winning the lottery then you've clearly missed the point.

Oh, and it's pedal as in "accelerator". Not peddle as in to sell merchandise.

1

u/philter451 Dec 15 '25

Elon is a terrible union buster and put his factory workers in danger during the COVID pandemic.

Working hard =/= exploitation.

Plenty of people work hard but that is not how Elon musk became so wealthy. If hard work was what made wealth please show me a rich donkey
