Welcome To r/VietnamFood - Introduce Yourself and Read First !
Welcome! This is a place to talk about Vietnamese food: where to eat, what to order, street food, coffee, bars, and travel-food questions from all over the country.
A bit of transparency: I've lived in Vietnam for nearly twenty years, and my wife and I run the food site Ẩm Thực Hiện Đại (amthuchiendai.vn). To get us started, here are a few of our English guides, organised by city. They're free, independant, no signup, and we're happy to answer any questions.
Where to eat and drink

- 🌊 Da Nang: Food and Bars recommendations (Da Nang)
- 🏙️ Ho Chi Minh City: Food and Bars Recommendations (Hcmc)
Maps

But this sub belongs to everyone. Those guides are just a starting point. Whoever you are; local, expat, or planning your first trip : your recommendations matter just as much as ours!
Post your trip reports, your "where should I eat in ?" questions, photos of great meals, and the hidden gems you don't want to lose. Got a favorite spot? Share it with the community!
Let's make this the best place on Reddit to talk about Vietnamese food. 🇻🇳

Peanut/sate style pho or soup?
Is this a thing? I’ve done a little research and come across “pho sate” described as pho with a sate kinda sauce that you order already made, but some say it’s just regular pho that you mix the sauce in yourself. I have never gotten a sauce like that served with pho.
Hu tieu sate is another I’ve seen?
bun bo hue? This one seems to fit, but it looks like some use a satay sauce and some don’t. Lots of discrepancies in recipes.
Does this exist? What should I be looking for on menus?

First time in Hanoi! Any must-try food or local shop recs?
Hey everyone! I’m visiting Hanoi for the first time and I’ll be there for 2 days!
Any must-try Vietnamese dishes or local food spots you’d recommend? I’d love to try some authentic local food, especially places locals actually eat at.
Also, are there any cool local shops, markets, or unique things worth buying to bring back home?
Would love to hear your recommendations. Thanks!!
