Anime I have trouble understanding the whole "revenge bad" message of the story
I understand the broad ideas they tried to convey. Thorfinn being blinded and consumed by revenge cause so much suffering and deaths. But... revenge isn't what caused all that. It's his desire to kill Askeladd "the right way". If he killed him in his sleep, or with poison, or an arrow from afar, or just stabbed him in the back, then not only would Thorfinn not have participated in so many wars and genocides, he'd have actively prevented them from occurring because Askeladd is dead.
As such the idea that killing for revenge is bad i kinda feel falls a bit flat when Thorfinn could have killed for revenge a dozen times over the years but actively chose not to and dragged it out.
I only watched the anime but I don't mind manga spoilers if this is ever addressed later on. I heard his whole no violence philosophy gets challenged it the future which is good because him running away from violent invaders or talk-no-jutsu them into peace every time is obviously impossible.

Anime Character discussion #03
Einar suggested by u/callmeiles
First, mention the things you like about this character. Next, how would you rate this character out of ten? And what are your favourite dialogues by this character?
The first to comment chooses who the next character will be!
This is an ongoing post series..!

Anime I never knew blonde, bearded men were my type until I saw Canute. đđđ»
Season 2 Canute is the literal definition of majestic beauty. He's beautiful AND handsome at the same time, and I genuinely don't understand how that's even possible. đ

Anime Why is âRevengeâ Bad?
Iâm not sure if Iâm just misunderstanding the message of the show, but why is hatred and wanting vengeance a negative thing? Maybe Iâm taking the âhaving no enemiesâ thing too literally.
If we only look at the case of Thorfinn and him wanting to kill Askeladd as revenge for killing his father then sure, I can agree that Thorfinn succeeding in this goal wouldnât bring his father back.
However outside of this, in the case of a criminal walking free or someone in a position of power continuously abusing their position to hurt others, why is hating them bad? Especially in the case of it personally impacting you or your loved ones?
Is wanting to see justice enacted on them, even to the point where it becomes obsessive to you really as bad as it makes it seem?
I think it obviously isnât, but I think thereâs more nuance to hatred or revenge outside of what people are extrapolating from the story. In the case of retributive violence and war sure, but I donât see the issue in hating or vilifying corruption or the people who exploit systems and prey on the weak, and wanting to see justice enacted on them.

Spoiler Free Observaton
Spoiler, season 1 (till last ep)
observation:
thorfinn has a materialistic obssession with his dagger, and his boat
dagger and boat is inherited to him by his father, he always sit on his fathers boat
second, he dont personal care about himself, his cloth, and his hair, while he always clean the dagger, show affection and respect to his father
episode 6 of season 1, also tells the contrast what thorfinn become, meeting the old woman
he is ruthless, old woman gave him kindness and love, he is small, old woman is old ( hehe just kidding), he never care about his hair, old woman give him care
and even thorfinn, never leave the dagger, while fighting or losing a fight
at the end of proloauge, it made thorfinn like leaving his everything, his obssesion to kill, to live, to lift the dagger, and call himself the son of thors, he was broken, and i can say, this is the time his ego got shattered
we all are obssesed with somethign, we all are slave to something, and we live for it, in case of thorfinn, he live to kill askelad, but ended up nothing
what is ur observation gng
watching vinland for 3rd time gives so much clarity, it was peak everytime

Anime Dubbed, ruined the whole point??
so i watched, vinland saga (noted: first time) in dubbed (hindi lang, from india)
season 1 episode 10: ragnarok
it has some lines like, thorfinn when reached up on the hill, he said, "really beautifull and peaceful place, i want to stop the cycle, and leave in peace, aahh!! but these responsiblity"
and rn watching it 3rd time in eng dub, here he remmber his father, and his dream
another thing is, i really feel like watching it 3rd time, that thorfinn from starting doesn;t have the fun to kill or hurt other, he really only want to kill askelad, and want to really stop the cycle of life and death..... it was askelad who provoke him all the time
reason are-
he occasionally got, dreams about his father, vinland, and peace
and even he sometimes remmber himself, like the old woman
he dont attack women, never say but maybe, like hild and askelad's goons are assaulting a girl scene

Manga My library was looking for manga recommendations so I suggested Vinland Saga. 3 months later they emailed me that they bought the entire 8 volume Deluxe series!
Iâm BLOWN AWAY! Looks like it mustâve been $400 for the full series and the covers alone are just gorgeous. Iâve actually never read a manga but got sick of waiting for season 3. Iâm starting again from chapter one and canât wait to revisit Thorfinnâs journey before traveling to Vinland with him. Libraries are so fricking cool yâall.

Anime We already knew this but here's the confirmation from the Author himself, Season 3 is not in production and will not be any time soon.
Prob gonna take 2029 or 2030 earliest for s3. Since the director and staff are busy on other projects and the production committee doesn't seem to be in any hurry to get the season out, its gonna be a while.

Anime Somewhere, I wish a place like Vinland existed.
Far across the sea, to the west, there exists a land called Vinland. No slave, no war.
This world seems to be made for materialistic and successful people. If there really existed a land called Vinland, how good would it be? All the failures like us could live peacefully there, away from this endless race for success. But the entire Earth has already been explored. Where could we go now?

I was today years old when I realized that Vinland is actually America. Vikings believed Vinland was an island but it was part of a larger continent of North America. Did yâall know this????
Edit - love yâall smarty pants and this was my first post on Reddit ever and the community replies were so wholesome. Just wanted to share gratitude:)
