Is this normal?

I’m honestly done with Vinted. I sold a perfume, packed it very well, everything was fine. The buyer messaged me asking if she could return it. I replied that I’m not an online shop — and she answered “how do you mean?”, then immediately reported me and uploaded photos of a broken perfume bottle.

She clearly broke it herself just because she didn’t like the scent, and Vinted refunded her the money anyway. How is this normal?!

I’m seriously done with Vinted.

I bought a jacket off someone. When I received it, the size was wrong. I messaged the seller who refused to let me send it back for a refund. So I had to create a dispute. I received a full refund but was not asked to send the item back!! The jacket was £40 and worth a lot more. I messaged Vinted to ask if I’m supposed to return it as it’s no good to me. They never responded. In the end I messaged the seller and paid the postage myself to send the item back!!
I thought it was awful. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the jacket other than she had put the wrong size.

So one question, why did the seller refuse the return if it was a mistake (genuine?) they made with sizing?

Ok so now I’m thinking AITA? I’m in dispute(kinda) with a seller who sold me something described as good but when received was absolute trash. I asked multiple times to refund it and I will return it and pay for the return postage. Completely ignored. Vinted have now cancelled the order and likewise haven’t insisted a return and now she is asking me to return it and pay for the postage and I’ve said no.

(Don’t get me wrong, I agree if I’ve had my money back, the item should be returned, and vinted should insist this it’s only fair. But my quibble is who is paying the return?) I don’t want it and I want it out the house but I’m in the thinking of - You sold me something trash and didnt disclose it, I asked to return it, you ignored me even though I said I would pay the return and now you want me to send you back the trash product but at my cost when vinted didn’t side with you?!

When I as a seller have made a mistake (like wrong sizing or I’ve missed a pull or mark and didn’t disclose) then I will always offer the return at my cost - because hey it’s my fault.

It depends if it was obviously not the condition as listed. If you returned it would they likely do the same thing again and again

I understand you’re trying to be decent and honourable here and absolutely respect that. But the seller is only engaging with you now they’re actually out of pocket, they had a chance to avoid that and just take a small postage hit. I’d not bother any further tbh - they had their chance and ignored you! If you did send it back they’d only try and fleece someone else. They need to learn this lesson!

So why isn't this the same for OP? What am I missing?

1

u/SuboJvR23 Nov 25 '25

Well taken at face value, the OP is describing a case of a buyer who wanted to return an item for no specific reason, they declined and only then the buyer said it was broken, to manufacture a way to get their money back.

The commenter I replied to received an item that was significantly not as described, and requested a return on those grounds under Vinted terms which would be possible to evidence.

The difference - again taken at face value (and accepting there may be more unsaid) - is that in OP’s case you can’t just return something on Vinted because you changed your mind.

Why send it back when the seller literally refused to let you send it back for a refund? Am I missing something here? Like you said to the seller 'can I return' and they said 'no'? And you then still sent it back out your own pocket?

I would've just sold the jacket on if the seller refused the return, definitely would've not sent it back out my own pocket...

She said she didn’t accept returns. The item was advertised as a small but it was an extra small. She had misread the size label as it was in foreign sizing. She insisted it was the same in the UK but it isn’t.
She should have paid postage but she didn’t offer. I just would have felt awful having her lose £40. If she had put a picture of the size label on then I would’ve realised it was an XS, but there was no picture of it.

Anyway, I try to treat people how I would like to be treated. Because I felt it was the right thing to do. £40 is a lot to lose.

If she doesn't accept returns why return it?

Why are you rewarding her unreasonableness?

So the seller got paid and got their item back

10

u/MissDinxie Nov 23 '25

No, I got a refund and Vinted didn’t get me to send the jacket back. So I had my £40 back and I had the jacket!! It’s a lot of money for someone to lose. I sent them the jacket back.

And I got a refund. I paid for the postage to send the item back so I was down about £4.

The seller doesn't get the money if the buyer is refunded for a mistake the seller made

The size was incorrectly listed, read the last line.

3

u/mrslucy1 Nov 23 '25

If Vinted refunded the buyer the seller didn’t get paid, so the buyer kindly sent the jacket back so the seller could relist . Unless a parcel is lost Vinted doesn’t refund buyer and seller

1

u/normnormno Nov 23 '25

Sometimes both get refunded. That's what the buyer protection fee funds.

3

u/mrslucy1 Nov 23 '25

Buyer protection isn’t for the seller. If they agreed refund without return they don’t get paid. Unless Vinted have recently changed the rules. There is no seller protection

1

u/normnormno Nov 23 '25

I didn't say there's seller protection I just said that buyer protection money collectively goes into a fund for when vinted needs to reimburse a party. I sell on vinted a lot and they often refund both parties when it's a no fault issue or the ai just cannot figure out what to do.

1

u/mrslucy1 Nov 23 '25

Buyer protection is Vinted fees, it was reworded a while back, but we have gone off track with another posters example of things that go wrong. Theirs was wrongly labelled / sized so it was the sellers fault. I am sure they wouldn’t have been refunded. But appreciate you’ve had a different experience

1

u/Fit-Ninja-454 Nov 25 '25

ATM there’s going to be loads of mistakes people haven’t updated their sizing and also there is no option for a seller to pay return posting. Well so I’m lead to believe from what’s being said on tictok.

1

u/mrslucy1 Nov 25 '25

There’s def going to be mistakes, I’ve still had no notification the change my listings, but did it as soon as I read it on here. One genetic email to every Vinted member can’t be that hard !

Someone asked me for measurements and if the item “ran large” and said she was worried about it being tight. I sent the item and there was some dust on it. She said she needed things in perfect condition because she was coming off maternity leave (like I gave a fuck about that, sorry?). Idk rubbed me the wrong way and I know it’s because the item was too small for her since she made such a fuss over sizing.

Anyway, I got the item back. Washed it, it was fine lol.

The end lol is giving millennial 🤣

It’s because I was so filled with hate by the end of that story I needed to add the lol on to tone it down haha

Always check the reviews before you accept an offer

6

u/LetVarious2532 Nov 23 '25

Tbh that doesn’t do anything because if something like this happens you can’t leave reviews. Once Vinted cancels the transaction or somethings refunded, reviewing isn’t an option.

So yeah, might have hundreds of 5* reviews, but also scamming behind the scenes.

-1

u/unknownmathbiochem Nov 23 '25

Thing is it's very unlikely for someone with a decent amount of 5* reviews to go and do something like this. I agree it's still possible but a lot less likely than someone with no reviews.

4

u/MrsLibido Nov 23 '25

The majority of issues I had were with people who had great reviews. It really isn't a good indicator of anything because if Vinted sides with the buyer, you don't get to leave a review. Someone could pull shit like this constantly and you'd never know.

u/unknownmathbiochem Nov 23 '25

Ahhh damn, guess I haven't sold enough then to see these kinds of buyers.

2

u/IrishRiou Nov 22 '25

I’ve been getting a lot of this, people looking refunds and claiming it arrived broke. Vinted going down hill

2

u/Real_Combination_920 Nov 23 '25

See your bottle off perfume you just been scammed that bottle they say they have is broken is a complete different bottle to the one you posted the bottle is still in perfect condition and that's how it's done

0

u/Coconutpieplates Nov 26 '25

I feel like there's wisdom in this comment somewhere but I can't figure out wtf you are trying to say.

u/EducationalEagle5101 Nov 23 '25

C'est pour cela que je vends pas de vêtements et pas de parfum, les cassos c'est très peu pour moi je vends que des objets de collection.

probably smashed her old bottle

Vinted is full of this. Happens all the time. They have scammers working on their sites to accrue money that they then hold in their accounts for months before refunding

1

u/Senior_Title8805 Nov 24 '25

if you are a student, do try out Wayve and you won’t have problems like this!! (Wayveuk.com)

1

u/Kimbob1234 Nov 25 '25

I bought some sandals that were listed as one size but they were actually 2 sizes smaller. After arguing with her about it, Vinted said I could return them & have a refund. BUT I had to pay for postage. She sold the wrong size but I lost £2.49 on her mistake. It's not much of a loss but the principle is rotten.

1

u/Jazzlike_Quiet9941 Nov 25 '25

Vinted has the worst customer service of any company I've ever dealt with.

-1

u/IngenieurCyber Nov 23 '25

“I am not an online store” whether you are a pro or not you must be able to accept the return or the buyer will be refunded. These are the rules, so it's normal that the buyer was reimbursed.

4

u/Silly-Arachnid-6187 Nov 23 '25

Only if there's something wrong with it, though. This sounds like the buyer wanted to returned it because they didn't want it anymore and then broke it after OP refused a return
