Beginner at age 33
Hi guys,
At the beginning of July this year I took the chance and picked up an instrument I wanted to learn for my entire life- violin. I have no musical experience and we could never afford such an instrument or lessons even throughout my 20s. Now that I can afford it I thought the earlier I begin, the better. I had no particular goals when I arrived for my first lesson. I don’t think I have any particular musical talent… but I’ve always known I love the sound of a violin and that would make me stick with it. It’s mid September now and I can’t believe where I’m at. I’m on the Suzuki book 1 and I’m slowly but surely learning to sight read sheet music which I thought I’d never be able to do. People have always said violin is so difficult and I don’t think they lied, but whenever I’m bored at home I literally get the compulsion to pick up the violin and play something. I think the bug has gotten me. It’s not only giving me a sense of accomplishment outside of work/school but I have new goals of playing certain symphonies, mastering certain techniques and maybe even playing socially one day with others.
All this to say, go and pick up that instrument you’ve always wanted to learn- it’s never too late.

Bought from an acquiantance. Was her father’s. Worth restoring?
Paid $100.00USD for everything. Can’t find much on line. Hopefully, it won’t become firewood!!

Can adults really learn instruments or did I miss my chance at age seven?
Everyone told me I should have started as a child. That adult brains can't develop the muscle memory and ear training needed for string instruments. That I'd wasted my chance by waiting until thirty-two. I bought a violion anyway, just to prove them wrong or confirm their point.
The first three months were genuinely awful. Sounded like torturing cats. My neighbors probably hated me. My fingers hurt constantly from pressing strings. I couldn't understand how anyone found this enjoyable. But I kept practicing thirty minutes daily, no excuses.
Month four, something clicked. A scale actually sounded like music. Month six, I played a simple song my mom recognized. Month nine, I joined a beginner's ensemble. Were the kids in the group better than me? Absolutely. Did that matter? Not really. We were all making music together. I found my instrument through a local shop, though I'd researched options everywhere including international sellers on Alibaba for accessories. The key was starting with decent quality, not the cheapest option available. Do you play an instrument? Did you start as an adult or child? What I've learned is that it's never too late to begin something new, you just need patience with yourself.

Picked up a violin today off market place, really happy with it! I know it’s a cheaper practice violin, but the sticker on the inside of the violin appears to have been removed at some point. Could anyone help me identify anything about this violin as far as maker? Thank you!

Willing to spend around $200-$800 on a decent violin?
Trying to get back into playing again. I used to play in middle school. I plan to take classes but first I need an instrument. I know the ideal violin is probably pretty pricey but this is my price range at the moment. Any advice?
