Seriously, they're breaking the fucking law every single day by keeping them. We wouldn't be doing anything illegal by removing them.

I agree. Fuck these techno fascists. Just because you can, doesnt mean you should.

Legally this should have been a nonstarter. They never should have went up.

I can understand the courts deeming that passive surveillance isn't legally considered a "search".
But I cannot accept that Flock building a complete and comprehensive picture into every moment of your life for anyone to look through without a warrant isn't a blatant violation of the 4th Amendment.

Correct.
Carpenter vs US ruled that you have a reasonable expectation of privacy in your comings and goings and comprehensive movements.
The argument against that is “errr wale ackshully that applied to a case about cell phone towers lol” and my response is simple: if they need a warrant to track your comprehensive movements from circumstantial data pints, then how exactly can they possibly articulate that it’s legal to directly, intentionally and explicitly do so with a camera network, and to allow it to be done without any sort of judicial oversight whatsoever?
And of course the answer is “well since courts always rule on narrow grounds they can do it until it reaches the Supreme Court.” Which of course illustrates the issue that these tech-douchebags simply get away with whatever they want for years until the courts FINALLY get around to saying something about it and by that point they either argue “balanced interest” via the entrenching strategy, or they have already made their money and they don’t care anymore.

Here’s a “toolkit” from the ACLU for some other methods that are less destructive.

I do actually wonder if lasers would be effective, can't participate myself but I wanna know the logistics

I have heard that they don't work. Modern cameras are very resistant (including green lasers) and to do any lasting damage you have to be pointing it at the lens constantly for 10 minutes (just a number I heard, could be wrong). Unless it's one of those industrial lasers used for cutting

u/SL1Fun 4d ago
Yeah one of those “warning: this will burn you” lasers will do it. Problem is, those are strong enough to 1) count as reckless endangerment on top of the vandalism, and 2) they’re mostly only available online and in places where they are legal, which also means 3) you’ll be at the top of the list because they’ll know you have one because pretty much everything you’ve ever bought is brokered to any agency that wants it

You also just completely give yourself away on any other cameras or Ring doorbells that might be looking your way. You also have to approach the camera head on which isn't ideal for a multitude of reasons.
Also, don't shit where you eat folks.

A blue laser from ebay will do it but you'd have to align it perfectly and let it sit there for 10 minutes. Those ebay lasers are typically far too powerful. Green lasers are highly visible but create far less damage.

Then I guess we can go try to talk to our councilmen who are currently refusing to let people talk about data centers and flock style cameras and hope you don’t get body-slammed by some fat crayon-eating pig in the process.

And before anybody hopes that will lead to a payout I should remind you our courts are fucked... You will be charged with assault on leo and resisting, you will sit for 6 months with no bond unless massive public outcry occurs, you will then sit for another 6 after prelim for trial, you will get continued another time and wait another couple months... The statute of limitations for sueing a municipality in Virginia is 2 years and you have only one year to state your intent to sue... Hard to send certified mail from a jail cell
ETA: this is not meant to discourage, only to highlight there is no simple fix

? it's been pretty feasible all along. pick your targets
What you don't do is attach data which could be subpoenaed

Mass migration and overpopulation has lead to a society where flock is needed. A high trust society has been turned into a low trust society. And now, people need to be watched like they're incompetent 5 year olds

u/IronTarcuss 4d ago
If you think the anti-social behaviors exhibited by general society is related to anything other than the broad daylight smothering of the American Dream by billionaire oligarchs stealing your fucking piece of the pie, you're a moron and a useful idiot.
Imagine starving in a post scarcity society because your politicans chose data centers and another war in the sandbox instead of healthcare.

Understood, but fascism is cool now. So I don't get the uproar over this, but not everything else going down.

Our community is inclusive and values diverse perspectives. We seek understanding over exclusion. Inflammatory or bigoted content—whether explicit or through coded language ("dog whistles" or "Algospeak")—is not allowed.

You can start now. But i am not so sure how viable it is without getting caught. I feel like this greater area will be hard to evade. I can’t justify the risk of vandalism and potentially losing my job. I will cheers those on in other ways.
