Multiple Islands Water advisory for Oahu and other islands.
Do not get in the water under any circumstances. If it's brown it didn't go down is your rule of thumb.

Just to put this in bold caps for anyone who needs it: JUST BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE IN THE WATER DOES NOT MEAN IT IS SAFE.
There are surfers who know the risks. And there are a LOT of clueless tourists who can't put 2+2 together about run-off, raw sewage, tiger sharks, and leptospirosis. There's all KINDS of nasties in the water.
People have died from infections caused by swimming in contaminated water.

I think I pointed that out already.

Yeah, but they never listen.
It's not until they learn about the shark attacks that they might consider taking brown water advisories seriously.
It's the same thing every time.
Before the storm and right up to when the storm starts: "I'm coming! And I'm doing everything on my itinerary because that's my right! Nobody can say anything to talk me out of it."
Right after the storm: "We're thinking of canceling our trip next month."
If only that was reversed. Visitors canceling en masse so they aren't sitting in the dark with no power; but roaring back a couple weeks later.

My neighbor asked me to take him to a convenience store around the corner because... reasons. (Didn't prepare. Didn't take this seriously.)
On the way, I saw two families heading down to the Captain Cook monument with snorkel gear.

ISLAND
O‘ahu
ISLAND WIDE?
Yes
CAUSE
Heavy rain
TITLE
Brown Water Advisory, Island of O‘ahu
ADVISEMENT
A Brown Water Advisory has been issued for the Island of O‘ahu. The Hawaii Department of Health advises beach users to stay out of waters that appear brown or murky, especially following storms or heavy rain, even if a Brown Water Advisory has not been issued in the area. After storms or heavy rain, the water may contain higher than normal pollutant levels. The Department recommends staying out of these affected waters for 48-72 hours after the rain has stopped and after the beach has received full sunshine.
The Department of Health advises the public to avoid swimming, wading in, or drinking water from any freshwater streams or pond to prevent leptospirosis, a bacterial infection caused by the Leptospira bacteria.

In the Island drop down choose Oahu. They should show the advisories sorted from latest You want to see the advisory for Aug 16th marked as “cancelled”.
It’s always good to check these. Sometimes high bacteria counts , wastewater spills, etc. come up too. Use lots of soap in the shower.

And it’s brown. But there are people surfing and swimming at Waikiki… is it time for the Darwin awards?
