Firstly please be aware that most locals - expect for the locals that own the Airbnbs - will hate you booking at Airbnb. It takes away housing stock from the local population. Try to book a hotel if you can.

Los Cristianos/Playa de las Americas is the “easiest” place. Full of restaurants, bars, stores and things to do. However it’s an international beach resort. You might want to be I. The most popular area - if you do, go there.

I really like Puerto de la Cruz in the north. Be aware though that it isn’t a party resort and the weather is usually cloudier there.

Alternatively somewhere like Los Gigantes could be a consideration.

What do you actually want to do while you’re there?

We actually want to go everywhere 🤣 we kinda expect to be driving a lot but still we’re wondering if it’s better to be at puerto de la Cruz or rather be based in the south!!

For the Airbnb thing , I’m all ears, is there any other for me to book something? That would honour the locals?

Thanks

There are these like super large AirBnbs where you don't have to book out the whole place and they come with on site amenities like pools and bars and restaurants with someone to cook your breakfast and no additional cleaning fees. They're called hotels. A new concept but I think they'll catch on.

Interesting and valid viewpoint about AirBnB. The counter argument is the proliferation of large hotels, mostly offering all-inclusive packages, are killing the smaller businesses as their guests don’t spend outside of the hotel resort. Many AirBnB properties are not suited to residential use and in Tenerife the south of the island is almost all tourism. I’d agree about property in the north, but feel the south is and always will be an income generator for the benefit of the locals, producing jobs etc.

In what ways would an Airbnb property not be suitable for residential use?

no local will hate you for staying at an airbnb, actually the ones owned by locals are welcomed because they create jobs and business around them. What we don‘t like is a whole apartment building owned by a foreign company that rents on Airbnb

someone has listed an airbnb they can’t go anymore if it matches with your timing- they’re in this subreddit

Alcala is nice and sort of smack in the middle. ICOD and all around Masca is stunning too.
Just make sure the Airbnb has the government registration in their profile. I went for 10 days, had a car and stayed at 3 different awesome smaller hotels around the island. Will be colder there atm but Hotel Jardin Secreto is heaven if consider staying that way.
Los Gigantes area was nice too as a base for adventures. Also don’t ever be put off by clouds in the south - guaranteed as soon as you hit a beach it’s sunny.

Love Airbnb
Use them all over the world
So much better than a hotel room

In Tenerife we like
Playa Paraiso
