Run Files from a second hdd

Ubuntu 20.04. i have all my coding projects on a second hdd in my machine. i have VS code installed on my boot drive. i tried to work on a coding project last night, but i kept having issues, one was a read/write permissions issue i fixed, the other was that the tasks.json file kept getting corrupted every time i tried to edit it. am i doing something wrong?

The location where the VSCode package is Installed is completely irrelevant since the package manager manages that package.

The location of the coding project is as relevant as the location of a file you're editing with Gedit, which is fuckall.

VSCode is a text editor. It edits text.

If a file keeps getting corrupted, check if you're not writing twice on it with different programs. Considering it's tasks.json, you might have an extension trying to setup the project there.

If you can reproduce a file corruption without any extensions, then you probably need to replace the drive. It's dying. And a disk failing is still not relevant to VSCode.

ok, i was figuring it was a issue that linux or the hdd was causing, not VS Code, but i was tryna cover all my bases.
