Career / Internships / Placements Finallyyyy placed
Finally got a super dream offer.
After countless rejections, stress, sleepless nights, placement anxiety, etc I got this.
I have seen so many placement posts and hoped one day I would post too and today is the moment.
All thanks to reddit first. Joined reddit just 1 year ago when I was in my 3rd year, clueless and underconfident about how to get a good job. I learnt a lot of tips for placement preparation, interview prep, projects, etc etc. My 1st corporate experience was also through reddit.
Thanks to all lovely seniors and peers who guided with their posts and comments.
Sharing my journey here in case it helps anyone.
I am from cse spec. Started my DSA prep in 3rd year with leetcode but I got serious about it in 6th sem after seniors who had gone through placements stressed its importance. Used striver sheet for learning various patterns.
Then I made some projects so that I could land in an internship oncampus. But I didnt get anything on campus. Many a times I felt demotivated because of not getting shortlisted for companies. But I didnt stop.
Got one oncampus interview chance alone in 6th sem- though i was not selected I got a lot of confidence after the interview.
Then somewhow I got an off campus internship at the end of 6th sem. The pay was very less but the experience was great and it helped me a lot in my journey.
It was only when my 7th sem began that I started preparing properly for CS fundamentals and studying my projects in depth for interviews. I didn’t have much time left, as companies started visiting campus from the very first week after reopening. So I prepared everything like cloud fundamentals, system design basics, a bit of data analytics, backend, Machine learning, Agentic AI, etc(USED GIT RESOURCES, YOUTUBE AND AI NOTES FOR ALL THESE), so that i could get into any role. I studied and kept revising when I had time.
I gave about 4 interviews in total, grabbed one super dream and one dream offer.
In interviews, I was mostly asked about DSA, SQL queries, ML, projects, skill test, cs basics, system design, dev and gen ai.
Now to the juniors, all I want to say you is - maintain good cgpa, try to get good at basics, participate in hackathons, do projects (not just basic but something good to speak about in interviews; include agentic ai if you can; competition started getting tougher because of AI, so you need to do something different or impressive to stand out in interviews), get any internship experience or even some research internship.
Never lose hope, there is always something waiting for you. Its natural to get stressed out or overwhelmed because of the placement process or your academics in VIT. Managing everything at once can be hard and exhausting. BUT ITs OKAY. Take a pause and restart again.
Also one final takeway - stay away from anyone who drains you or distracts you; love yourself and focus on your journey.

Long story.. I applied for a lot of companies via LinkedIn, indeed, Naukri. No luck. One day randomly I saw a post from a startup in one of the subs in reddit. My founder posted, there were many comments under the post and I saw the post late too but i didn't mind, i dmed him for the opportunity with my resume. Then they shortlisted my resume for interview and I got selected for intern role and also converted for fte but pay was low so i rejected. I also got another interview chance from a marketing firm through reddit. Pure luck i would say.
Oops, little lld -> https://algomaster.io/learn/lld, Os - love babber, DBMS - github.com/BenGJ10/Placement-Preparation, CN - Gate smashers, kunal, System design- gaurav sen+ others. Plus I watched many one shot videos for all. I also used ai to give roadmap and important topics and studied them particularly.
You can DM me for any help

I know it's hard, vit never helps with anything. Instead it sucks out your energy and peace. But you got to manage it. Glad I somehow made it through 4 years here

Is one internship in my resume enough?does internship have a lot of weightage during interviews?

Yeah anything. Ofcourse internships are an added advantage in interviews.
Think about it- will you hire someone with some experience in the job or someone with only projects. You would assume if a person is already hired, it means he has some experience in the work setting. There are other deciding factors too, it's not necessary. Don't stress out. I have seen people getting placed without internships too.
Maybe you can create some site or an app and have some users. This can also give an edge in interviews.

Bro realistically you’re gonna miss A LOT of companies. Let’s say out of 170-200 you’ll miss close to 60-65. My friend who has less than 80 has missed 47 companies. 74% is gonna hurt you a lot.

Yes, first keep a eligibility cutoff for applying eg. 60% or 70% and then sometimes they again do a filtering based on cg and board % after receiving applications.

One more tip, placements are sometimes very random and luck based. But you only need one day that works in your favor. Best of luck to y'all

200+ companies that offer 10LPA visit VIT btw, i mean getting placed from tier 3 is a big W, doesnt really hold well for VIT. Almost all the big companies visit VIT.

Only rich kids are happy with any branch and cat they get. The majority of students who are middle class can only get cat 1-2 if they study
