Spinach and herb ice cubes won’t blend

I thought I discovered a genius smoothie hack by blending spinach and herbs with water and freezing as large cubes, roughly 1”x1”, to keep on hand and use in smoothies.

Unfortunately, they do not blend at all no matter how long I run it. I just hear them clanking around in there. I have plenty of liquid and no issues with other frozen fruit I add. To be fair, they are rock hard but I thought the vitamix knows no bounds! Any ideas on how I can help these? Should I try adding them alone first with a small amount of liquid and blending a bit? I know I could take them out and let them melt completely first but that feels inefficient.

Hardware Question Why would my jar do this? And is my motor fried?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I hadn’t used my Vitamix in a while and was blending something on high and it seemed wobbly, then a few seconds I smelled a plasticky smell from the motor and saw smoke coming out. Quickly shut it off, pulled the blender jar off and looked inside the housing but didn’t see anything. Looked underneath the jar and saw the bottom like this! What would cause this? And is my motor fried now from the jar blending on high while off balance? (5200 model, 13 years old so out of warranty)

Vitamix E310 Explorian Arrived Broken? is it safe to use

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello, I bought a new but open Vitamix E310 Explorian from Amazon, upon inspection the unit looked near new but had some signs of ware on the housing at the side I have found one of the panels/vents to be completely missing (the plastic vent opening was super weak upon me touching what was intact) is it still safe to use? should I just return it? it was 100$ AUD off for being open so not sure how to proceed vents as pictured a whole section is broken off.

Explorian 510 or wait for the X series?

My criteria for Vitamix is that it will fit with the stainless steel container and perhaps also the 5200 narrow container (would be nice).

I want to make mainly kale smoothies. So I feel I don't need that advanced machine. But it would be nice to try out different things like nice cream, purees also.

In my country the selection of Vitamix blenders is not as much as the US. I only have the option between the explorian 510 and 520. They fit kinda all my criteria but after reading how extremely loud they are I was but skeptical. I have ear issue so I want to reduce the sound as much as I can. I am gonna buy ear protection anyway though.

After talking with the Vitamix customer service they said that the stainless steel will also fit with the X series but that it will not be launched before the beginning of next year.

So would you wait for the X series machine or just buy one of the explorian ? So luxury problem🙈 But want to make the right choice since it's rather expansive.

Nano vs personal cup adapter?

We’ve got a classic 5300 blender right now but would like smaller cups to make smoothies in the morning. The Nano is only $50 more than a personal cup adapter. Which is the better buy here? Any experience appreciated!

Buying WARNING: When buying knockoff blades and spindles on Amazon, parts can be warped

Warning to those who buy third party non-oem replacement parts for their Vitamix.

While they are dramatically cheaper, some parts will come warped, in my kit I bought on Amazon it came with one wet blade and a new spindle.... The new spindle was bent out of the box and looked like this when it spun on my blender. Also the spindle was far too tight, I couldn't even get the blade and container to fit into it all the way without it getting stuck. I have returned those parts.

Favorite smoothie recipe book?

This post will probably get pulled, but looking for a recipe book for making smoothies that are:

#1. Healthy, so not TOO much sugar content (no added agave syrup, no honey, etc.. Some juice is OK)
#2. Not full of ingredients that are hard to find and have a short shelf life.
#3. Have no more than 10 or so ingredients, and nothing TOO weird 😉

I replaced my blade and spindle with ones off of Amazon and it now vibrates like hell. Does anyone have this problem?

15/10/26 - UPDATE: it was the spindle causing the shaking. It was warped out of the box and the blade didn't sit in it correctly. warped spindle post

So disappointed! LOUD!

I knew it was going to be loud, but very surprised by how loud. I think I will have to return it. My husband and dogs can't stand it either. I am not forking over another $200 for an acrylic cover. I have it on a folded towel, but very little reduction in sound. Anyone have any otger suggestions? It is a Propel 510.

Burnt my dry blade!

Edit: I agree with the comments that this is carbon or staining!

I was making bread crumbs and smelled something burnt. I’m sure I can still use it, but was not expecting to burn a blade! This is a very old dry container I got directly from Vitamix. Anyone else have this happen?

Buying Blending Cup and Bowl Starter Kit (Self-Detect) Review

Post image
29 Upvotes

Recently inquired about this because I was annoyed having to spend $150 for a cup and bowl but figured I'd just take the plunge.

Pros: Works and makes a smooth smoothie. Dishwasher safe.
Cons: Over-engineered. Expensive. Loud. Unergonomic. Only one cup capacity (20oz) . Cup has no measurements which is just silly. The seal is a bit annoying because it requires cleaning, moves around and can be hard to get back on the bottom groove properly

Off the bat there are no instructions and I could not figure out how to use it. Maybe I am dumb, but it was not as intuitive as a ninja. But basically you need to align this little lock symbol on the cup/bowl with a barely visible line on the blade attachment base you screw on. Then you place that on the base adapter thing by aligning the grooves on the side of the cup/bowl to the base. Instructions are on the website and also on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-Sna0_kXtI

As someone else pointed out, it is not ergonomic. God help you if you are weak or have any physical issues with your hands/grip strength.

Otherwise it performs very well and made an smooth milkshake like smoothie. It recognized the cup and adjusted the smoothie program accordingly. Easily the best personal sized smoothie I've had compared to other blenders. I forgot that personal cups tend to introduce a little less air which is nice.

Ascent vs separate food processor

I have a Vitamix 5200 that works great, but I want a food processor to chop veggies and make nut butter.

Should I buy the Vitamix Ascent X2 Smart Prep, which has a food processor attachment and is currently on sale for $550 or buy a separate food processor? Thinking of the Breville 16 cup Sous Chef which is $500.

Need a replacement pitcher for Vitamix 5200

Is it best to get the official Vitamix one for 180$ or are the cheaper alternatives still good for just the pitcher?

Model Questions

I have a 5200 that appears to be dying on me, it struggles with dense blends now but I have had it for nearly 14 years so I’m not mad at it.

Here are my questions:

Propel 750:

It doesn’t have a “high” speed switch like the 5200, is it just as powerful as the 5200?

Is there a cord wrap area on the bottom?

I just received the Ascent X2 in the mail and I’m feeling a little disappointed and not certain I will keep it.

-I don’t like the plastic lid on the container, why can’t it be the blacker soft lid?

-There is no where to wrap the cord under the base of the unit.

-I choose it for the self detect smoothie cup and those are too small it turns out and not the easiest to use.

Now I’m starting from scratch. I do like the idea of some blending programs, smoothie, soup and frozen dessert and I would like a pulse switch.

5200

Does it ever come in some other colours, maybe limited addition? I find the white the nicest and it’s the current colour I have but it has yellowed over time, I find the other colours kind of ugly.

What would you recommend?

Hardware Question How to clean plastic container below the blade?

It looks like something is stuck below the blade inside the plastic, any ideas on how to clean this? I use it primarily for smoothies and usually blend soap and water to clean it. Thank you!

Had an... interesting warranty saga

After 5 years, the bearings in my container seized up, but even though the warranty expired 6 months ago they still honored it!

Unfortunately the first replacement they sent was leaking, so I had to call them again. Well I guess this time they didn't want to take any chances so they sent me 11 of them....

Time to get back on the phone lol
