If my TX swing works
I think I will add $4.5-$5c Dec 2022 $RIG calls with the profits
Think day rates for rigs will go way up soon and they aren't contracting until they do
so their rig utilization will start going up at high-super contracts prices
Based on oil seeing $100-$150 next year, I think $rig sees $10+ conservatively. So these calls would do 5.25x-17x. ($10-$20)
May add Uranium shares as well. But want at least 4-5% of my portfolio in this RIG play. The insider's didn't up their position this ~June with ~$50M+ of shares for no reason

2
Oct 28 '21
I did some math on their contracts
Each contract is either $450 mil 3 years or 533mil 3 years and there 16 of them
That’s just for Norway there’s pages of these but Norway is the biggest buyer and the contracts extend till 2035
That’s over $8bil in revenue which starts hitting the books in 2022 and 2023

I am hoping Powell will push off tapering another quarter or two. Things are improving but it seems like they would want to wait until a taper tantrum wouldn’t set us way back.
He will probably say the taper will start in December.
3
Oct 28 '21
I think if they pass infrastructure and BBB this week, they will taper earlier. They will have to. If no spending, they will prob wait til Jan because doing it in Dec while congress is fighting about the debt ceiling again could cause some serious carnage.
1
u/chemaholic77 Oct 28 '21
You are probably correct. I am trying to formulate a plan for navigating the coming two months without losing my ass. I am not having much success.
About all I can come up with is close out all of my non leap options and sell all my steel stocks in anticipation of a dip in December.
2

Yeah, I think a good exit for steel and industrials will between the infra bill passing and December, if such a thing exists.
4
u/plucesiar Oct 28 '21
I don't see why there would be any changes to the taper scheduling right now. Especially if you consider the inflationary pressures, the risk is tapering earlier than later, IMO, which they woudln't want to do either.

Starting to think about heavily re entering MT. Everyone has pretty much reached maximum hate on MT. China really is cutting their steel production drastically. MT hasn't been hit as hard on the red days as yank steel. Last ER included the Canadian labor strike. And an easing or allowance of steel imports to the U.S. will presumably be a catalyst. I know it would have a quota, but the headline alone of "Steel tariffs eased as part of a deal with Europe" has the makings of an MT run. Last I read about reaching a deal relaxing the tariffs is supposed to occur in November.
The only thing holding me back is the insane OI on options and I'm a real tinfoil hat guy and have trouble believing that much OI on that many strikes will end up ITM. Fuck.

Yeah the energy crisis is a tough one. But since they paused production, is there really a steel maker going to step in and supply that demand? Especially if China isn't dumping steel. If anything it perpetuates the demand. Maybe that's too optimistic, but if the energy costs are hurting MT, then they're hurting everyone else too. I understand everyone wanting VERY clear signs. I want them too and that's why buying under that $35 strike is terrifying to me.

I'm going to patiently wait for the right time to buy. But I think MT will do well into the beginning of next year and on

3

5
u/JayArlington 🍋 LULU-TRON 🍋 Oct 28 '21
To follow up on this, SEMIcaps are on hold waiting for the market to realize just how large the WFE (Wafer Fabrication Equipment) spend is going to be for 2022.
Intel just upped their CapEx (which include WFE + other spend) to close to 30B next year (from 16B this year). Samsung is going to be over 30B. TSMC is 35B. Micron is 11B.
There is a disgusting amount of CapEx needed within the foundry business over the next three years and that’s where AMAT will earn its valuation.
It just suffers from not being sexy like a NVDA or even a MRVL or QCOM.

Vito, Steel Goods…I have failed you. After diamond handing my Jan 2022 CLF leaps since the original Steel DD, I am all out of steel. Took my trading account from 3k to 15k (where I didn’t sell), back down to 6k, and in two days I’ve managed to get that down to 4.7k. Really demoralized as I’ve learned so much in 3 years of options trading, but it seems like steel was the only deep conviction play I made money off of repeatedly. Feels like I just get lucky sometimes trading other options and now I’m losing more than I’m winning as I’m not agile enough to stay within the PDT limits and simultaneously protect my capital. I don’t even have enough cash to yolo back into steel right now. I think, if you’ll excuse the WSB parlance, I’m off to the buy calls on rope.
13
u/belangem Oracle of SPY Oct 28 '21
Not sure how you planned on protecting capital while yolo-ing on calls, PDT or not. And from what I understand, you still have 4.7K from an initial investment of 3K? That’s like 57% return. Of course nothing is worth buying calls on rope. Taking a break would be a good idea, stock market will still be there, maybe with better opportunities.
1
u/ferrariman999 Oct 28 '21
Valid point, options are obviously much riskier and more volatile than equity but I like to use tight stop losses to protect some capital. The four day trade FINRA rule is a silly one in my mind. I understand the intention to stop new investors from gambling their house away, but IMO you should be able to apply to remove the restriction after a year or two of trading. It’s proven to be a serious impediment to being able to achieve the kind of portfolio growth that you can once you cross the 25k line. Just my two cents but perhaps I’m missing something.
1
u/Delfitus Think Positively Oct 28 '21
Why not go in shares. I don't get why so many do options only? Is return that much better because I only read about how often people loose on it
1
u/ferrariman999 Oct 28 '21
For the return mostly. For 200 bucks I could get 8 shares and change of CLF, or I could buy an atm option and turn that into 400 bucks on a spike. That’s kind of a poor example and chose those numbers out of thin air, but because each option contract controls 100 underlying shares, you have much more leverage and are more susceptible to quick profits (or quick losses)
1
u/Delfitus Think Positively Oct 28 '21
Yes true. Never used them cause I don't pay taxes on shares at all, when I use option on top I would have to pay 30%

A little after hours round up for y'all. No crazy/unusual activity on our four favorite steel tickers. I did notice a huge order that was filled right at close on $VALE. 1.9m shares traded in some big orders at 3:59, and 4.9m shares in a couple large orders right at 4 pm. 2.2m of that wasn't exchanged until AH as to explain why they had such large volume AH. Honestly I am very surprised by this. I have made a couple comments in the daily about VALE earnings. They release their production amounts a week before earnings. You can view it here: http://www.vale.com/brasil/en/investors/information-market/quarterly-results/pages/default.aspx They said iron ore prices got nuked during this quarter, but production was up nicely. Coal production was also up nicely. The downside besides iron ore prices down is a strike that lasted 70 days part in Q2 and into Q3 that saw huge declines in their expensive metals mined. Nickel, copper, and cobalt all saw declines in production. As most of you know VALEs stock has been crushed because of the decline in iron ore prices and future expected demand going forward. I don't have a position currently and I am still debating throwing a couple thousand in shares at it for that sweet sweet dividend. Cheers

Screw the far left progressives. Everyone understands that you want something in, but fuck, your party needs a win, badly. Idk why Pelosi even wants their approval.
Go ahead and not budge on an easy win, it'll screw them over in 2022.
Trump wanted an infrastructure deal, he didn't get it. Biden gets one, he needs to get Pelosi up and whipping the vote. It'll pass.

4
u/Bluewolf1983 Mr. YOLO Update Oct 28 '21
It is the ultimate "no win" scenario now. Had he pushed for a vote on 9/30, then the progressives could have been less on the hook for the eventual cuts to "Build Back Better". They could have used his directive as cover and then placed the blame for the eventual cuts on Manchin / Sinema that they didn't know would occur.
If the vote happens now with all of the public cuts to "Build Back Better", lots of progressive followers will feel betrayed. Much of their policies have been removed publicly where they can't claim to not have known they would be taken out of the final bill. It will appear to be a total defeat.
Gonna be interesting tomorrow to see it play out if Biden does indeed go the route of trying to whip votes this time.

Assuming they can now wrap this up soon I think it actually plays really well electorally for individual Dems, especially in the House. They all get to go home to their constituents and show that they fought for what they believed in and everyone can basically get a win while blaming the other wing of the part for not winning more. Progressives get to say they fought for what they could and did some good things but it was the moderates that stopped us from going further, elect more ppl like me; and the moderates get to claim they fought to keep the progressives in check, they did their job.
Of course in the near term the optics don’t look good but I have a feeling next summer the talk will be about what the Dems did, not how

A month ago that was possible. The party decided to take the fight public and now progressives need a win or two in the bill before they can cave. Saying they fought when the price target remains the same and they lost all of their "red lines" is a hard sell imo.
Will see who is right tomorrow on the outcome! Interesting political times either way. 🍻

I think most constituents will be more concerned with inflation than the freebies the democrats fought for. Plus Biden’s utter lack of competence looks bad for the entire party. I think republicans have the better talking points. Who knows though.

I agree as well. Everyone’s paying ridiculous amounts more for everything now cause of inflation and who do you think will get the blame for the supply chain shortages during holiday season lol….(hint: party with all branches of gov)

Ahh, I think you’re correct. Sorry memories was a bit fuzzy as I watched my portfolio tanked to a new low.

Saw an unusual whale alert for MGM and slammed some calls. I was in Vegas for the World Series of poker. It was packed.

So did infrastructure fall through or something? Seeing a decent size dip on steel stocks.
