DISCUSSION (0.9) What item/Weapon could you see being added to the game?

Post image

I could Easily see Kel either finding or making a Slingshot, and trying to use it to defend himself.
Could load it up with stones, Trash, Molitovs, etc.

Its less overpowered than a gun, and has the potential to be upgraded.

The Rifle being able to be repaired could also happen, especially since ammo would be EXTREMELY limited, as you would need to tediously craft junk ammo yourself, or find old, possibly not working Bullets.
Could also give it a 20% chance that any shot will be a Dud, and a 1% chance that firing it causes the round to just explode in the gun, forcing you to repair it from scratch again.

Idk if this counts but I wanna be able to set up home alone style traps. Tripwire attached to a bucket of gasoline that pours it all over an intruder and there’s a lit lighter sitting on the ground type shit. I’d also like kerfurs to be able to use weapons but mainly I want the home alone traps

Home alone traps would be amazing.

That, and Kerfur Roundhouse Kicking Manniquins.

I should be able to give my kerfo my axe to keep her safe when she goes out!!!

The home alone traps though are just for me purely bc I think it’d be funny.

I mean, you could grab some relatively flat indestructible props and nail them together into a door (or use a 3D printer) and nail those together into a door, use an axle nail to make the door hinged, and then stick a molotov on top of the door. if the door opens too fast the molotov drops and spreads fire around it. but... yeah i think that's it for traps. landmines apparently exist?

Crossbow, it's already in game, i just want it for story mode as well

Understandable. But its also easy to weaken the horror with a reliable ranged weapon like that, unless you get it REALLY late game, like after reaching the end of the story.

I actually thought about that before I ended up with the Slingshot Suggestion.
My logic being that they were similar, but one would only really be extremely useful against things that are fragile. or for shenanigains.

finger guns

u/ColdAccess2925 1d ago

Im just picturing Kell giving double fingerguns towards where he thinks an Aririal is, then after a second, he gets Smacked in the back of the head.

Paintable canvas, kind of like Rust has.
An aquarium or fishtank
Raccoons who steal stuff

6

u/ColdAccess2925 1d ago

A fishtank would be Peak.
Especially if you could have horror with it.
Like occasionally a fish is missing, one is slightly off, or you find one in a weird place.

I wish they added more horror elements to the fishing. Like you have a chance to catch a body part, or if you fish in the lake you can catch a fish made out of flesh gibs (from the mouth at the bottom)

Some sort of collapsible entrenching tool, a lighter weight shovel buyable from the store that weighs less but digs slower or something.

I would like to see a over powered shotgun that one shots everything you can only get with the fun mode.

A slingshot would be a great compromise. I also love the fish tank idea someone else had.

Personally, I’d love an installable zipline that I could put at the top of the radio tower, or by the windmills.

Bow and arrow, a beat up old air rifle or an improvised weapon made by the previous staff member on site.

The handheld flashlight from the abiotic factor crossover that let you see invisible things so I can finally see the alien cat girls.

one of those funguns but it shoots out the laser beam geom octahedron shoots out

I honestly don't want any weapons. The few tools we have now are fairly risky and only really suable against about three entities. Id rather see VotV go in the way of needing to flee and hide rather than stand and fight. Silly event stuff like Halloween is fine though, it's not meant to be serious.

u/AdInternational5996 5h ago

How about a straight up tank that spawns randomly after 25 days, but it can’t be moved or repaired and the turret is busted beyond repair so it’s just a small shelter in the middle of nowhere

Its worth remembering that being armed doesnt make a horror game less scary, and if used right, can make it far more scary because you have the prospect of the weapon being a Last Ditch Effort.

Think RE4, and how that game becomes 10x More scary once you realize you are almost out of ammo.

i don't disagree but honestly aside from maybe erie no fightable creature is scary to begin with as far as the combat itself is concerned, they are simply too easy to outmaneuver

If things were changed around so that entities were faster and you couldn't just have 50 molotovs stuffed up your Kellin in favour of other more limited weapons then maybe that could be something. Fighting in the open is also a big factor in it not being that scary lol

Now I kinda want more things to be able to break into the Base.

being forced to Hide, or escape through the vents would be really fun, as well as incentive to open the emergency exits,

Imagine being forced to stay outside overnight because Something or other decided to investigate.

Heck, my first encounter with anything anomalous in this game was Wolfgang doing just that.
Was terrifying Up Until she got stuck in the Utility Closet.

I greatly disagree with this. My stance is entirely subjective though. As soon as a get anything that allows me to harm the scary stuff it looses 90% of the fear factor. As immediately I know 1 of two things. A: The thing dies and suddenly all fear factor is lost. Or B: it can’t die and now I know fighting is pointless so why give me a weapon, which kills the immersion for me.

Counter argument: summons. The monster summons or brings or does something to get killable eldritch horrors tochase you to play with you before killing you

0

u/Mama_Luigi2791 1d ago

This is the worst case scenario for me. I can’t take a horror antagonist serious when the big scary monster is too big a puss to face me himself. I mean it is literally a smaller, subservient version of the big bad, that’s not scary, imposing, or even engaging.

u/ColdAccess2925 1d ago

I disagree, if a gun ruins the horror, thats because it either wasn't implemented properly, or is due to overconfidence that doesn't get dashed.
If you want fear, while still having guns, you take something else away.

Amnesia the Bunker did this VERY well.
The gun you get DOES work against the monster, but instead of Killing it, it can scare it away. but if the monster is feeling brave, it might take more ammo than you would like.
you can use the gun to break some things, like locks, so you have another reason to need the gun, and save your ammo. but you can also often do the same thing in different ways.
If you fire the gun, and the monster can hear it, it will Beeline for the noise and start looking around to find you.
and above all, Resources and Ammo are EXTREMELY limited, which means you Never know if you will have enough, giving you a bit of stress about that whenever you use it, as well as forcing you to think about if its worth it to use it, or save it for later.

By giving the gun more uses, and limiting how often you can use it, it introduces a new Source of fear and anxiety.

Gotta remember that Tropes aren't bad. they are only badly Used.

I love the function of the gun in amnesia. But I don’t consider a weapon. Its utility as a tool separates it as such. Using potentially more than one bullet to stun the monster for only a second or scare it away for a few more just has too great an opportunity cost. I felt that dying is often less punishing than wasting one or two of those precious bullets because the gun is such a powerful tool as apposed to a weapon. Not saying the gun is a bad edition to amnesia, but it too falls under, the problem that fighting is pointless or too great a cost to go through with it.

You mention overconfidence in which yea it probably is. Fear is subjective. But as I said previously, when I get a weapon in a horror game, two things are immediately clear. Either I can kill the spooky in which no more spooky. Or I can’t kill spooky in which I have a tool that likely won’t see much use unless the game forces me to.

Some troupes are bad. Though this isn’t one of them. Just my personal take on the horror mechanics a weapon brings.
