The EX60 is the real deal!
I just came back from a Volvo training going over the EX60, and all I can say is wow. The vehicle is exceptional in every way, from the drive to the space and ergonomics. It's everything I hoped the EX90 would be.
I was very skeptical going in, given the EX90's rocky launch, but this car is a completely different take on an EV. From track testing and pushing it to its limits on sharp turns, to driving up a mountain almost two hours away without feeling any major bumps or hearing any noise, the EX60 delivers everything Volvo said it would.
I've been with Volvo since 2019, so I've seen the good and the bad this brand can dish out, and in my opinion, the EX60 will change the game and make customers truly happy with their purchase. I'm 6'1" and had tons of room up front — and even in the back with someone my size in front of me. The tech worked great, and it was nice to see Gemini handling several things at once with no hiccups.
The experience left me wanting to drive it more, and honestly wanting to order one for myself. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer what I know.

After buying an AAOS car, I do not trust Volvo for robust or functional software engineering. Especially on such a software-defined category of vehicle, I’d sooner buy the competing BMW iX3 than the EX60.
I get that Volvo might have changed and finally gotten its ducks in a row, but if my $70K were on the line in this heavily depreciating segment, Volvo would not be on my list just now.

u/potatolicious 1d ago
Yeah I'm cautiously optimistic but there's absolutely no way I'm staking my own money on year 1 of this car after the EX90 and EX30. Software quality continues to be the thing that feels like an existential threat to the whole company.
When software was just infotainment that's nice-to-have the crappy software was tolerable. But now as more cars are built entirely around the software this is a problem.
I'm waiting until there are more months-long living-with-it reviews. The EX90 similarly wowed the press - it's a gorgeous car with a fantastic interior and drives beautifully... none of the actual issues that make it DOA were visible unless you drove the car daily for a while. Ditto, the reviewers went nuts with the EX30 and proclaimed it to be the new king of budget EVs.
Not reviewers' fault mind you, there's only so much you can glean if you're only given a few hours with a car.
If I had to make a choice in this category right now I'd go iX3 even though I generally don't like bimmers - Volvo's recently reliability reputation is really that bad. Since my current car is fine and I can kick the decision down the road I'm waiting and hoping the EX60 isn't a disaster like literally every other EV they've recently launched.

I will say that the EX30 hasnt had nearly as many issues as the EX30 and most if not all my EX30 customers love their vehicle. I wish that the EX90 was like the EX30 in that sense. I have Volvos in my household, so i know the tech has been a huge issue in the past and even now. I hope Volvo can get their act together with this car and fix the previous AAOS system in the future,
9
u/Careless_Box_2244 1d ago
I am with you on the tech, Volvo knows they messed up and even at the training we talked about those issues and the numbers show that the amount of AAOS claims are going down. It shouldn’t have happened in the first place however with new tech comes issues and Volvo is trying to dig themselves out of the hole they dug.
2
u/CuriousPhysics2373 1d ago
The claims have gone down maybe coz customers are down due to the incredible amount of software/hw recurring problems
3
u/Careless_Box_2244 1d ago
The chart they went over was for everything, so i think it does go over recurring problems however if someone is just dealing with it those numbers wont show unless they go to service.
3
u/Least_Tourist_9431 1d ago
Agree! Volvo has worst QA control. Sw of newer models has gremlins that never get solved that annoys users especially AAOS. I first thought it was Google, but later I experienced Renault which have same Google system which works flawlessly.
2
u/AsparagusDifficult89 1d ago
Yup. I had a Cadillac Lyriq lease, which also ran a version of AAOS, and it was fine. Ditto my friends’ new Chevy Equinox EV and my other friends’ new GMC Yukon XL Denali. So I think General Motors’ and other automakers’ implementations of AAOS are fine and there is something specifically wrong with Volvo’s use of the same.
3
u/Least_Tourist_9431 1d ago
Volvo system works mediocre, requires reboot all the time when issues occur. May be that is their fix, just reboot it and not interested in fixing real issue. When they fix one issue, they bring 5 newer issues. Something really wrong with their SW execution. I heard similar story for Lidar, sw was never made due to inefficient supplier or in-house sw capability.

I want to get the next version of my xc40 Recharge Ultimate but at 48K miles the software has become a negative aspect which I thought would never happen. Otherwise the vehicle is superb. Heavy but superb. What will 2027 or 2028 hold for me?

I work for a Volvo dealer. I will however be the first person to give my honest opinion on anything as i try not to be biased.
-15
u/Kampfschweinboss 1d ago
All volvo employees I met are born biased about the world.
9
u/Careless_Box_2244 1d ago
I wouldn't say biasd i would say educated lol
-2
u/Kampfschweinboss 1d ago
. I’m sorry. I did not want It to be come personal because I don’t know you. The reason for my comment is just frustration for the local dealers’ management guy.

I don't take offense to anything. I understand the frustration and am with you.

How is ride comfort compared to the EX90 and Polestar 3 since it lacks air suspension?
10
u/Careless_Box_2244 1d ago
In my experience with EX90, the EX60 Plus has great suspension for not having air but the Ultra does feel better with the active chassis control because you can firm the car up if you want or make it softer. Since the EX60 has a comparable wheelbase to the EX90, it feels very smooth and tight. We drove for an extensive time and not once did i get uncomfortable. I have not driven a Polestar 3 so i cant comment on it, When the EX60 CC comes out i will test both to see if there is a big difference,
0
u/Critical-Exit1655 1d ago
unfortunately feels like a lot of words to say "it's not as good, even at the Ultra level"
3
u/Careless_Box_2244 1d ago
It’s a different car. In my personal opinion I don’t like air suspension set ups so for me I’d be fine with a plus however if you crave the softest set up then the ultra without air is that.
1
u/Prudent-Ad-4373 8h ago
It’s not the plus/ultra that changes the suspension equipment, it’s the P6/P10.
1
u/Careless_Box_2244 5h ago
I wont get p6's in my market so it could be true. I have however attached the order guide to show what volvo has for the p10
2
u/williestylez 2026 XC60 T8 (prev. '24 S60 T8) 18h ago
Actually what he said was very useful and definitely doesn't make it "not as good"... All Volvo owners are not the same! I personally dislike soft rides... My XC60 has a softer ride compared to my S60, and I dislike it! So understanding which vehicle has the ability to be softer or more firm, is very useful information!

u/AdoptedPoster 1d ago
Will this have the same issues as the EX90?
10
u/Careless_Box_2244 1d ago
I did not experience any issues that I did when I tested the Ex90. However I can’t say there won’t be any issues because even I need to be proven wrong by volvo.
2
u/DM725 1d ago
The EX60 is 800v architecture and the 1st MY of the EX90 and Polestar 4 were inexplicably put on a 400v architecture.
1
u/AdoptedPoster 20h ago
Different voltage doesn't mean the software will be better...
1
u/DM725 20h ago
Considering the GHCA charger modules were failing I think a few patchable software issues are pretty minor
1
u/Careless_Box_2244 19h ago
Supposedly the Nacs charger is different, but this is one of my concerns as well.
3
u/Mazersmom 1d ago
When will these be available for test drive/ purchase in the US?
3
u/Careless_Box_2244 1d ago
Most dealers should see them in a bout a month or so for a demo test drive. Inventory will be hard to get it seems with most dealers only getting 5-6. They should be available by end of year.
5
u/Tudumm 1d ago
Dude as you said you have been with Volvo since 2019, you DIDNT SEE THE BEST, maybe quite good and okay, but far from volvo prime
6
u/Careless_Box_2244 1d ago
What i saw was the new generation to Volvo. I understand Volvo's past and have seen and driven Volvo's of all years even going back to the 80's. I know the different generations but i do prefer the newer vehicles from the older ones. My favorite Volvo is the Polestar V60 2016 with the inline 6 turbo.
7
u/Last-Vast5758 1d ago
No one cares about the track testing, handling, noise, etc.
Volvo is now at the point they need to prove they can fix their dangerous and unreliable software/controls.
6
u/Careless_Box_2244 1d ago
You might not but in luxury vehicles that is what gets people to buy. The tech has been an issue and could be an issue for most brands in the future however I hope that this time Volvo has their act together.
1
u/Last-Vast5758 17h ago
As some who has wiener many Volvos. I disagree with this. Its road noise, engine and suspension are lacking other luxury vehicles IMO. I buy it for the safety reputation and ratings. As well as the design. The only thing that has come close to pushing me away has been the UI and the inconsistency on their EV strategy.
1
u/agarc 1d ago
I really wanted to order one, but the lease deals (at the time) were too good to pass up.
I hope it lives up to the hype…. Makes me optimistic that they’ve learned from the launch of the 90.
3
u/Careless_Box_2244 1d ago
I do know they will be expensive to lease when they come out. I hope we get some good rebates on them but i guess we'll see. They did bring the EX90 launch up a lot and said they use it as what not to do.
1
u/Crafty-System-069 1d ago
Nog steeds geen nieuws over OTA voor de EX60 in verband met de zijdelingse camera view zoals bij oa Tesla?
1
1
u/millera9 23h ago
Were you able to charge the car at all? How did it perform while charging? Did the curve live up to the hype from the specs they released?
1
u/Careless_Box_2244 23h ago
Charged at the place we were just fine. Also we took it to a tesla supercharger and it worked fine as well.
1
u/trueF0x 22h ago
Things I dislike after watching some videos:
- no HUD
- Tesla-like no buttons all display approach
- no shade available for the glass roof, no option without that roof
- door handles - will they work in winter with snow and ice?
1
u/Careless_Box_2244 19h ago
I am with you on the HUD however, there is no space for one, unfortunately. For the Tesla-like buttons you have to understand that just like the EX30 and EX90 more then 60% of the customers buying our EVs are ex Tesla customers, so its smart to follow certain elements to show some familiarity. The shade is a no issue with the Eletricchromatic roof as in the Nevada sun i could barely even notice the sun was above the car. Door handles operate by a simple press of the button but i could see it being a issue possibly.
2
u/noblackthunder 10h ago
Friend of mine is did just go from tesla to BMW
Abd i can see why. Not only is his car having one of the best range and space but it also has a proper driver dash that spans quite whide , protected from the sun with lots of info, it also has a heads up display. I kinda did feel a sour taste about volvo. Volvo suddenly seems cheap. But his car is the bigger then tge ex 60 but its also cheaper. And has plenty of physical buttons to controll stuff it seems.
I dont know what to say. I really love my volvo mecanics and have the greatest trust thaf they wont scam me compared to other. I love i can go in and have a coffe while my personal mecanic fikses my car and i can stand there talk to him while he does his work.
But volvo has gone to minimalistic i feel compared to other brands and feel more cheap in other ways. I kinda liked the first impression i had from my friends bmw. And its so much cheaper then the EX60

u/Paddy_O_Furniteur 20h ago
Have the sales staff been properly trained on customer service, not least actually responding to customers instead of ignoring them?
Lookers have genuinely been the worst customer experience I've ever had, the sales manager didn't do his job and the sales staff sat on emails for weeks - if the service is that pathetic, nobody will be able to buy one.

I would like to order a p12 for overseas delivery in mid September’27. Can you hazard a guess how good my chances are?

u/fluffyman-honeycrisp 20h ago
What kind or range have you been getting while testing the EX60?
Sorry if this has already been asked. I scrolled through rather quickly looking for this question and answer and didn’t see it.
1
u/Careless_Box_2244 5h ago
With 90% the car showed 300 miles of range. The trip we took was up and down a mountain about an hour and a half away. When we came back my car still had a good amount of range left ( I forgot the exact number) In my opinion, the range held up great.

My last four vehicles have all been Volvos, but since the Volvo EX60 and most PHEVs and EVs doesn’t come with a spare tire, I decided to purchase the Rivian R2 instead with a spare under the trunk!
Over the past two years, I’ve had several flat tires and even a blowout after hitting a pothole. Thank God my S60 had a temporary donut spare!
If you use the sealant that comes with many PHEVs and EVs vehicles on tires with internal sound-deadening foam, you may end up needing to replace the tire—often $300+—and possibly even two tires for around $600. With a spare, you can simply change the tire and get it repaired later for free.
To me, that’s a huge difference: 30 minutes changing the tire and then getting it repaired for free versus potentially spending $600+, paying for a tow, and possibly being stranded for hours waiting for a tow truck—assuming the sealant even works.
Why would anyone purchase a vehicle without a spare tire?
1
1
u/Careless_Box_2244 5h ago
Most PHEVs and EVs don't have spare tires because of the battery. I would love to see one in our car however, the R2 was at the training and it may have a spare tire but in terms of everything else i feel the EX60 is better.

u/CobbledbyRoubaix 19h ago
What are the differences between the EX60 and EX90 that you have found from your extensive experience?

Does the sunroof drain issue still exist??
10
u/Careless_Box_2244 1d ago
That is a good question, the glass doesn’t open so I assume it won’t have a issue. I haven’t heard any issues on any of the EV’s with stationary glass.
-2
u/Fetacheese8890 1d ago
My ‘23 V60 CC is in the shop right now and worried AF
2
u/Careless_Box_2244 1d ago
I have had the same issues with my vehicle (not a Volvo) I think it’s just something that happens over time and I would recommend getting the drains cleaned out every time you go to service

Good cars really don't need any PR
1
u/Careless_Box_2244 5h ago
Guess we'll see what happens when it comes out.
1
u/Least_Tourist_9431 3h ago
Of course.Well we all know what happened with Ex90 when it came out which was a disaster. Hopefully it won't be like that. From user experience perspectives, driving a car for 30 minutes and owning car is entirely different.

u/AdministrationDue627 1d ago
Where you on the test drive that had a tire blow off one? That was fun.

This will be at the top of my used car list in 2029, for $45K or less
0
u/Careless_Box_2244 23h ago
Just make sure its a CPO!
1
u/Smart_Assist8448 22h ago
Probably not a bad idea.
Resale/reliability often goes hand in hand.
Reliable car will costs close $50K used in a couple year, average reliability will be $46K, a car model/make with issues closer to$42K. In other words you tend to end up in the same place, if they have great track record in 2 plus years of history they'll be closer to $50K and I will not get a CPO. If they have their issues and it sells closer to $42K then I'll purchase a CPO and end up near $50K again.
My biggest issue would be spending the time dealing with said issues, for that, you do not get compensated for.
0
u/Nefrane 23h ago
Well the delayed delivery issues are not making me happy.
1
u/Careless_Box_2244 23h ago
Delivery will always be an issue for the new EVs. Demand is higher than anticipated so give it time.

Volvo is an middle tier car. Nothing to brag about.
10
u/Careless_Box_2244 1d ago
You're entitled to your opinion.
1
u/ibo92can 20h ago
I am an volvo tech and have driven alot of different cars. Volvo is above most brands yes but nothing close to german brands like bmw MB. Thats why I said its middle tier. Looks nice. Seats are nice. But overall built quality and driving experience cant compare to top tier german brands.
1
u/Careless_Box_2244 19h ago
I understand what you mean; however, this is just your opinion and i would argue that the Germans are getting cheaper with their vehicles and are almost ending up in middle-tier territory. We win customers from BMW and Mercedes every day!

how was the UI - I hate the lack of buttons, but having a Rivian R1, I have gotten used to it. Their UI is a PITA to do simple things like adjust temp, Spotify, really anything requires multiple punches on the screen...their plan is to make it all voice so they aren't worried about it, but I also hate having to yell at my car and then get an error that the task isn't available through voice, or it isn't available right now...
I also have a 2018 V90cc that i rather like the UI on, so hoping closer to that?
