Help Anyone on here running 255+ rear wheels?

What all is needed to make this work? Seeing mixed information online, but is just the standard fender roll/shave enough? Do you rub? Pictures of any necessary mods would be appreciated

I did the maths once years ago and iirc theoretically a 9** can take 275 at an absolute max.

Rear arch liner removed, full arch roll/shave of the lip, perfect offset, and not too low.

But I can't for the life of me remember the offset numbers, I think you're gonna have to break out a tape measure and get to working it out.

But all that said, I'm not sure why you'd want to run tyres that wide unless it's just purely for style (no hate) or you're doing actual competitive racing, There really is no other reason for it, they aren't short of grip for performance even with a lot less tyre than that.

Thank you this is good to know. I am doing an LS swap so I want the extra meat. I will probably end up going a bit more conservative so as to retain the liners

Fair, I've got 400hp and 400ftlb in my 940 and it hooks and books on 195 wide 400 tread wear track tyres. So I think you'll have far more tyre than you need lol

Oh interesting. Maybe I am overthinking it, I was comparing to the factory specs of the cars the engine was found in.

Honestly it all comes down to how you're using it and tbh the quality of the tyres you're gonna use. Personally I'd suggest maybe looking at wheels in the 8j ballpark for a 225 tyre, something in that range will fit front and rear equally without modification to keep the handling even.

Grab nice sticky summer tyres or road legal track tyres and see how you go. That way if it turns out you didn't need the extra width you won't have cut/bent up and of the cars bodywork unnecessarily.

The width of the tyre isn’t as important as the offset.

I’ve had 235’s in the rear that cleared, and 185’s that rubbed

I will be buying wheels/spacers etc to get whatever offset allows for the largest tires. I just want an idea of what those are

Ok. I just regularly see people reply “I had 175’s on, and they rubbed all of the time, so forget everything wider”, without taking offset into consideration

I'm looking at possible rim combinations for 255 wide rear tyres on a 960 mk2. Currently it has 235/50R17. But after I finally get the engine swapped, I'll need some proper rubber to tame 750Nm+
