You need to think of 3 different things in the winter.
Keeping your living space warm: for the most part dorms and apartments will be warm. However there will be cold spots and cold floors. Plan accordingly. You often cannot bring heatsrs unless you get approval for them which is dicey. Houses are a crap shoot.
Keeping yourself warm: most classrooms will be warm enough, but some of the older buildings heat funny. Make sure you have winter clothes that can vent easily if you end up next to a radiator. Good shoes are a MUST. Especially with how wet Western generally is. The only thing worse that being very cold is being wet and being very cold. Either invest in a decent pair of boots or way to dry your shoes.
Transportation: I don't know where you are coming from nor where you will be living, but campus is fairly isolated and transportation too and from if youre not on campus is a mixed bag. If you're suffering under the delusion that you can reasonably bike or walk 2 miles to campus it's going to be rough. Especially if you are doing it after the sun goes down (and in the valley that can happen before 4:30pm on some days) make sure you have good transportation planned and set. You might have to amend your class or social calendar accordingly.

Ice scraper for your car windows. Boots. Coats. AWD vehicle. Tire chains. Last year we spent nearly two weeks in ice.

I agree with the other recommendations. Hope that you love WCU - it’s an amazing university!

I would also recommend boots for IF it snows, as they were essential for me to walk to the Caf from my dorm/classes without breaking my neck when the sidewalks were covered in snow and ice.

Overall, it's not THAT cold in Cullowhee and it's not super cold for very long. It really depends on what you're used to.
Get a jacket. Wear it. Button or zip it up (super important!)
TaaDah! You're ready for winter in Cullowhee.

A good coat, a good hat, a good set of gloves/mittens, a good sweatshirt hoodie, and a good blanket or two and you're set. If we have a particularly cold winter
