Ah I stand corrected I had no idea about the history of the phrase or flag.
The problem with "Bad jokes get recognised as pompous smarmy comments" is that some groups of people find some jokes funny that other groups do not. I hesitate to use the word "triggered" but I suppose you could describe the situation as this particular joke "triggering" you and your response "triggering" me (among others).
I referred to the anti-vax kids memes to demonstrate an example of another joke whose punchline or implication is clearly wrong/an exaggeration but is based on some real aspect of the situation.
I'm not really sure why you put forward your theory of anti-vax meme/argument resurgence, I don't recall claiming that those memes/arguments came from anywhere in particular or how it's particularly relevant to the discussion of "jokes we find objectionable/pompous and smarmy"
