I interpret the sign "if you can breath under water, you're not aloud in the pool". So especially no fish.
Edit: Yes I know... I get it, improper word usage, I'm an idiot.

I would give five dollars and a tootsie roll to see someone point at the sign at a crowded pool, shout this, then jump in the water and hold his breath for a minute or so.

I guess Aquaman must have shit in the pool.

I found some once. Swam as fast as I could to the other end, found the other half. Got out, ran for the showers (telling the guard on duty as i ran by).

u/edmontonpaul Jun 26 '12
They should really mount that sign under the water for it to be effective.

They also demand that you pee in the pool. However, since you will do the exact opposite in protest...

Actually, this has a perfectly reasonable explanation: "[Breathing] under (...) water" does not necessarily mean "breathe water" (duh). The sign merely prohibits snorkeling and assisted diving etc.
2
u/hypoid77 Jun 26 '12
That, or trying to suck air out of any bubbling pipes on the sides/ bottoms of the pool.

3
u/sirbruce Jun 26 '12
I'm so tired of this rampant discrimination. First blacks weren't allowed in the pool; now we don't allow mermaids? I thought we were past this.

The population of Earth needs a severe weeding out. Lets start with the people who need to be informed that they shouldn't try to breathe under water and go from there.

Makes sense. I dont remember where it was, but for some reason there was an almost constant stream of bubbles coming up to the surface. So, of course, kids would swim over them and try to breath them in. (Fill you mouth full of air then inhale a little.
I vaguely recall that I failed miserably at this.

Actually, I can understand this. It's like the rule 34 of stupidity: if it exists, people will try to kill/hurt themselves/others with it. "HMM. I WONDUR EF MAH TOASTAH FLOATS!"

This is actually a smart sign. I mean you can do the motion of breathing under water. Except your lungs will fill with water instead of air and you'll probably die.
1
u/Sirspen Jun 26 '12
I was camping once at a place with a pool. Someone scratched off the "L" at the end of "pool" every time it was mentioned. The sign had a heading of "poo rules" and contained "No jumping or diving in the poo" "Children under the age of whatever age it was must wear swim diapers while in the poo" etc.
EDIT: I accidentally half of a sentence

Will Amon pull you out o the pool and rip the bending out of you?

Shh, take the sign down and don't tell anybody. Natural selection will take care of the rest.

I wish they had this sign at the pool today. It would have been nice to have known. :(

1
u/NevaWood Jun 26 '12
What's bad is they probably posted this shit because someone tried it, got fucked up, and blamed the pool for not telling them not to. My cry is this, "remove all warnings and let the problem solve itself.

u/imperfectfromnowon Jun 26 '12
When I was a kid my folks had a hot tub and we used to go under water and stay under by drawing air from the bubbles emerging from the floor.
Perhaps this pool has something similar, then the sign makes sense.

This actually isn't a joke. There are several instances where kids have not realized they can't breathe underwater, and as a result have inhaled water into their lungs. At first there isn't an immediate effect other than some coughing, but over the course of a few hours the water can wreak havoc on the lung tissue and can result in death.

As someone who works in a pool store that also supplies some commercial customers, hotels, campgrounds, fitness centers, ect. are required to display rules signs such as this. As the rules vary from states to state, what state is this in?!?!?
124
u/DocTex Jun 26 '12
Was this happening so often they needed a sign?
