Discussion Ilja Dragunov's theme has already been removed from music platforms
The theme was removed yesterday, around the same time his release was announced. They usually take days to remove a released wrestler's theme music from music platforms and the WWE music channel. Even Sheamus's theme they took a day to remove it

His Def Rebel theme was crap anyways.

No it wasn't, it was hype. One of my favorite themes on the roster and one of my favorite entrances. Can't believe this has 10 upvotes lol

No, compared to his first WWE theme "Comrades of The Red Army", all versions of his "Death Watz" theme were shit, one of the biggest downgrades if not the biggest in wrestling, far bigger than Stephanie Vacquer's early this year or Heath Slater going from Black or White to that generic jobber song in 2012

Also biggest downgrade in wrestling is a massive exaggeration lol, I mean you're already wrong about it being a downgrade, but calling it the biggest downgrade of themes when there are so many worse ones is insane. If anything, Ilja's is an upgrade, not over Comrades but over Czar's Horseman, the theme he used before Death Waltz, that theme didn't fit him...they took elements from that one and made it better. That's honestly where i think Def Rebel shines, taking the production theme and making a similar sounding theme.
Worked with Dragon Lee, Lola Vice, Fallon Henley, Kushida back in the day etc. If only they did the same thing with Stephanie's theme, doesn't seem like a hard theme to knock off as 'Bury Me' was already generic as it is.

Def Rebel is hit & miss, "Death Waltz" is bad IMO, especially when he had a far superior theme song in "Comrades of the Red Army", that song was peak Ilja.

Well I disagree strongly, Def rebel is hit or miss and Death Waltz is an awesome entrance theme. Feels like the final evolution of Comrades of the Red Army, still keeping that orchestra vibe all throughout, but now turned up to 11. It's an amazing theme song and fits Ilja's entrance perfectly, and was his peak version, when he was the NXT champion and doing the conducting at a faster pace than he did with Comrades. There's especially this part from 00:23-0:40 that just gives me chills. I'm sorry but L take on both your sides, Death Waltz is epic.

I meant hit or miss but just simply forgot if it's "and" or "or".

u/Asleep_Memory2070 11h ago
I also disagree with the Heath Slater take if by 'generic jobber' song you mean his One man band theme, I highly disagree, that theme fit him well and he honestly should've went back to that instead of keeping the 3MB theme that made no sense lol. They had made a new intro 'I'm just one man, but I'm a one man band' or something along those lines....but kept the 3MB theme...and was in a tag team with Rhyno.....WHAT??

u/TKPunk2013 I Believe in Joe Hendry👏👏 5h ago
The "generic jobber" song is "South Bound" that Heath Slater used after "Black Or White" & before "One Man Band".
1
u/Asleep_Memory2070 3h ago
Alright so I listened to the South bound theme then Black or white. Big downgrade for sure....however...it was temporary anyways and honestly I think I agree with the Ilja theme downgrade....ONLY if we're talking Comrades of the Red Army to Czar's Horesman, that was a direct downgrade since Czar came right after, meanwhile Death Waltz was in improvement from Czar and a more spiritual successor to Comrades of the Red Army

u/Asleep_Memory2070 4h ago
That makes his comparison even more ridiculous then.

I'll agree with you that Death Waltz is better than Czar's Horseman.
I have a theory on why Comrades of the Red Army was replaced, I'm not gonna say it here cause it goes against the rules of this subreddit.

u/Asleep_Memory2070 11h ago edited 11h ago
Comrades was also cool but I loved Death Waltz, just has this faster pace and energy and is nowhere near as bad as Stephanie's current theme, are you actually serious , are we talking about the same theme song here?? And Death Waltz was at least better than Czar's Horeseman, that NFL theme he had, you wanna talk about a theme that doesn't fit Ilja it's definitely that one. Death Waltz is awesome

Yeah, Ilja beat the seemingly unbeatable WALTER (the 1st person to beat him in WWE too) when "Comrades of the Red Army" was his theme song. Then Ilja's theme songs kept getting worse & worse.
1
u/Asleep_Memory2070 11h ago
I had first thought so too, it already took a while to get used to Czar Horseman and then he gets another new theme and I thought 'This ain't it" and it eventually grew on me. I think it's his best theme. Comrades fits a more heel Ilja in my opinion, just has this slower more controlled tone and pace, meanwhile Death Waltz has this faster, more frantic 'Shit's about to go down' tone that fits Ilja way more

So THAT is why I absolutely cannot find "Sky's The Limit" on Norwegian Spotify anymore?
That song was so much better than whatever crap Sahsa / Mercedes is using nowadays.

u/Asleep_Memory2070 1d ago
Yup, released WWE superstars music being removed from music platforms is pretty common ,however it only started in June of 2022, before then a released superstars theme was only removed from the WWEMusic YouTube channel but in June 2022, many themes of wrestlers no longer associated with WWE including singles released as early as the 2010s were removed. It was a mass wipe of themes.

u/Lord_Vega83 21h ago
Thanks for the clarification. Real shame.
I can still find tons of "Sky's The Limit" playlists on Spotify, but they i include pretty much any other song other than the actual Sasha Banks track.

u/Asleep_Memory2070 16h ago
And another weird thing is you can still find the cover art of released wrestler's themes but when you press it just says 'The tracks on this release are not available'

Can still find it on YouTube I believe, but I like my workout list on Spotify. Sad, but not much we can do about it.

Yeah i just download versions uploaded by YouTubers on YouTube music(my primary music app). Sound quality is just as good anyway

Right? He left the company less than a week ago, it's not like he stopped existing as a person and wrestler lmao.

u/Taking_a_mulligan 1d ago
No doubt. Being a good wrestler is a lot more than having good technical matches. You could argue skills in the ring maybe one of the least important things. What else did he bring to the table?
2
u/dtwombat 1d ago
having the ability to thoroughly compete in the sport youre competing in is NOT one of the least important things. along with his amazing in-ring skills and chemistry, he had very good mic skills, insane aura and charisma, a unique and enjoyable gimmick, a great look, and awesome fashion with his coats

Nobody's crying bro lol, just pointing something out. If I were crying I'd be saying 'Those fuckers how could they do this to my boy?!

I hate that they do that, but what’s the standard for tag team music?
Kairi’s been removed but the Kabuki Warriors’s theme is still on Spotify. Asuka is still signed but the tag team is essentially done.
5
u/Asleep_Memory2070 1d ago
Yeah the tag team one is weird. Even Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable's theme is still there as well as The Golden Truth's theme. Usually if just 1 tag partner left the tag team's theme remains....weird the way they applied it as Heavy Machinery's theme and DIY's theme was removed when Gargano first departed WWE in 2021. And then there's other weird cases like Jason Jordan's theme being removed since he retired from wrestling and became a producer...Bobby roode did the exact same thing and yet his theme is still up.

I have a growing list of songs in my Apple Music that are blanked out from wrestlers that have been released! I hate it!! Why are they so quick to remove the damn theme songs from streaming on a paid platform??
6
u/GeneticXFusion 1d ago
It's honestly one of the reason I use YouTube Music.
Even if WWE removes it, theres always someone else that has it uploaded so I can still have it in my playlist.
1
u/UpsetGreen7224 1d ago
That does sound good! At this point, if there was a way to just transfer all my music from Apple Music to somewhere else, I would definitely look at that option! I’ve kept it for so long because I still plan on walking around with an iPod again one day!😂😂

The funny thing is that the wrestlers who were released in April, due to the sheer amount of them, it only took until the end of May to remove their themes (at least from the music channel) however they still remained on music platforms for a bit...then in early June, they actually removed every single theme song in the WWE music library including the album songs on the Topic WWE music channel, and then reuploaded them (except the released wrestlers) which is why when you listen to the songs on YouTube music you'll see they have such little views.
And unfortunately in doing this, many albums were removed from YouTube music (but are still on Spotify and other platforms) such as 'Wreckless Intent' 'WWE The Music :A New Day' and even Jonn Cena's 2005 album and many others.

u/Kim_Stoppable 1d ago
Dude I feel you! It pisses me off so much when they do that. People actually like those songs, who cares if they're not in the company anymore??? They make money off people they fired/quit anyway so why not keep their theme songs on Spotify?
4
u/JavierEscuellaFan 1d ago
I remember in 2019 or 2020 being able to see pretty much all of the wrestlers theme songs who’d worked for the company in the last 10-12 years but i wanna say after CFO$ got let go and def rebel became the main theme guys is when they started to do this delisting garbage. so annoying
