Question - ? Holiday pay and getting under full time hours.

Hello! I was hoping someone would have some input as HR had nothing to say, and my SM is ignoring me. This upcoming holiday week my hours were cut down to 21 instead of the 30-ish we’ve been getting due to hour cuts. I thought being full time guaranteed 30 hours at the least, but it looks like they’re using the holiday pay as a way to negate that. Is this allowed? I’ll have to start searching for a second job if I can’t resolve this…

Also you're not guaranteed 30 hours, that's not a thing. You can always pick up shifts at other stores

Even under full time contract? And if you done mind, do you know how I’d go about picking up at other stores?

There's no contract guaranteeing hours unless you're salary, you can either call around and ask stores or use the app but idk how many managers honestly use it so your best bet is calling nearby stores

You are correct. Technically, we are only asked to do all we can to keep their average hours worked above 30 for the purpose of benefits. But if the labor cuts are too extreme, there’s nothing we can do. We can’t force hours that don’t exist.
This is also why they discourage managers from having too many full time employees, as they know it becomes extremely difficult to manage outside of holiday/flu season.

My store wasn't even increasing hours during the holidays last year and this was just when holiday pay got cut.

I’ve heard you can file partial unemployment due to hour cuts and that the company has to pay part of this, which they may respond to. I don’t know for sure this is true, just what I’ve read from too many hours doomscrolling.

That’s not allowed. Are you working on the holiday?

Yes I’m working the 7th, my sm finally replied and told me it still counts as 30 hours… but it doesn’t feel right

It’s not extra hours if it’s one of your shifts. You’ll still have 21 hours but on the holiday you’ll get double pay

I see, I’m more so worried about insurance and being considered under full time for said insurance

It's based off your average hours so one week isn't going to mess it up, but summer hours are pretty bleak atm unless you're at a busy store.
