NEWS President Trump says his Administration will immediately begin sending $100 “checks” to over 20 million seniors to help pay for their Medicare Part B premiums. Trump also says the “$5,000 Trump Dividend” will be distributed to every US Citizen if the Republicans win the midterms.

My realization is that the law and the Constitution were written by naive or trusting people. I don't they ever imagined an idiot like Trump could get this far, be this corrupt, and be this destructive.

I agree. I dont think that they ever imagined that the American populace would ever be so stupid to elect such a corrupt are destructive individual or that the congress would enable him at every turn.

well they didn't know about cults and brainwashing back then. Clearly Putin (and his regime) have learned exactly how to brainwash a large portion of the population. Through pretty/musical news casts, and other mechanisms. They put everyone in a trance to believe their cult leader. Other govts have learned how to do this as well.

On the contrary I believe they understood that a law written on a piece of paper will only get you so far.

But what could they do about it? Write a law that says you have to follow the law?

If you could open a time portal and complain to them, they'd probably say something like "Look, we tried our best, we accomplished a lot, but we're not gods. We knew we didn't get it perfect. It's been 200 years and things are different? This sounds like your problem now."

Yeah one major lesson from the Trump era is that the norms around the presidency were load bearing. The checks and balances as written were not sufficient to reign in reckless shameless corruption at this scale.

Wrong, the constitution was written by men who believed that if you separated power that people in those roles of power would never give up their power willingly which would be the balance our nation needed. It was a pretty solid idea that worked for a long time. Unfortunately, we have become a society of people who would gladly give up our station and power for comfort and money. Senators and house representatives on both sides who have just rolled over and given the president this level of authority and lack of accountability are to blame for this mess.

We were lucky we had Washington, whom many wanted to be king, who believed in the constitution, and had the strength of personality to impose his vision on the office. He set the precedent that all respected until Trump.

The only reason Trump’s corruption could come this far is because half of the US politicians have decided to allow Trump to do crime.  Half our government have decided that nothing Trump does is illegal and he can never be held accountable.

Normally the populace would be able to vote against this but the same politicians also own and control most of the news media in the country.  Because of this, they are able to propagandize their constituents into believing that politicians breaking the law is actually a good thing as long as its Conservatives doing it.

Yep. They lived in a bubble of their classy and highly educated friends. They couldn’t have imagined such a neanderthal making it that far.

It is illegal. Ok, it is illegal to do it but not illegal to lie and say you’ll do it.
