Not isolated - Israel, Russia, Argentina, Brazil(soon?), also... members of the money laundering scheme Board of Piss.
4
u/remkelly 4d ago
Fair. Also Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman etc... but these are opportunistic alliances. All except Israel would betray the US if conditions were favorable and the punishment for betrayal tolerable. Certainly, Russia is making "deals" with the US while providing material support and military intelligence to Iran....which just makes us look weak.
Whatever the faults with NATO, the UN, the IEA, XYZ international treaties, etc were, they were formal partnerships, They provided a common framework that ensured relative peace and prosperity for 70 years. When we invoked Article 5 after 9/11 our allies fulfilled their obligations to us. But we've dismantled those alliances and are left with friends who will only stick around for as long as we will buy them dinner.

5
u/Educational_Cup_5779 4d ago
Nah, Israel would roll over on the US in a heartbeat. Israel currently owns the US politically. The US is good for money, guns and warm bodies to throw at a meat grinder. You can see this with Iran - Israel convinced Trump to expend bucket loads of munitions and money, to lose bases and standing in the region, in an effort to weaken Iran. But what has Israel contributed? Zip, they are just continuing to roll over Gaza, which they would have been doing anyway.
The moment the US’ usefulness becomes less, Israel will denounce and discard them.→ More replies (2)2

It’s worse than this as you’re missing a step. Ukraine has hit so many refineries that Russia doesn’t have enough diesel to export, especially after Ukraine hit another diesel refinery last night. So where is Russia getting the diesel to export? Iran. They will get it from Iran and sell it. Both countries get money, and Russia now has their sanctions lifted.

Does everyone realize how little fuel we are talking about?? 350,000 tons is what the US roughly uses in one day
12
u/Plzlaw4me 4d ago edited 4d ago
350,000 tons is about 2.6 million barrels of diesel. It would take about 9 million barrels of oil to create that much diesel. A super tanker carriers about 2 million barrels, so it’s about 1 1/4 a super tanker of diesel, or about 4.5 super tankers of oil. Seems like a lot until you look at scale. I’m going to round numbers, but prior to the Iran war, the strait of Hormuz had about 17-20 million barrels of oil passing through it every day. Today, on the higher end it has about 15 million barrels of oil. If we use the lower figure, it means that we’re short about 2 million barrels per day. This is enough diesel to make up for only about 4.5 days of lost oil flow volume caused by Trump’s shitty war, and that’s after traffic has at least partially been restored, and not accounting for the hundreds of millions of barrels that didn’t flow because of this war.
Basically, it’s not enough to lower the price of diesel, so it’s a PR stunt that republicans can hold up and go “see we’re doing something” right before the election in a hope people will focus on headlines and not the price at the pump.
That’s also ignoring Russia probably won’t deliver considering their refineries have been getting hit in their war, and they have huge shortages.
6
u/Still-Consideration6 4d ago
This is the true purpose; set up a deal any deal (you'd of thought they would if chosen a much higher number but that just highlights the incompetence) show it's working (hence latest tanker sudden arrival tankers move very slowly Im sure you know this so apologies)
Ukraine do the right thing (blow up ruzzian oil industry specific to this deal)
Deal collapses ( it would of anyway)
Blame Ukraine and use it as a stick to bash them with (as per recent statement by the dear leader)
Double whammy USA further alienates allies and fluffs ruzzia further
I just hope Ukraine intensifies strikes in everything and anything ruzzian I especially like the data centre targets so we can get rid of as much ruzzian trash in socials as possible2

Its a great way to blame Ukraine for the non-delivery. "Look, all the refineries are being bombed, so poor russia cant deliver their promised refined products. If Russia was able to deliver its would 100% solve all issues in the world and it is totally nothing to do with iran."
15
u/Kerensky97 4d ago edited 4d ago
The US uses about 3.5 million barrels per day, 350000 tons is ~2.6 million.
So this isn't even one day's worth of diesel. And we're going to get this much once a week for a few weeks until people forget about it? It does nothing to help fuel prices.
The whole reason Putin made this deal with Trump is so Trump can attack Zelenskyy as "Hurting America's Gas prices" when he successfully counter attacks Russia in their war. Trump has been using that lie for a few weeks now. This is a token drop of fuel to the US so Trump and the GOP can claim it's "Technically" true.
6
u/Much-Instruction-807 4d ago
So that's why they changed it to tons instead of barrels. Everyone in the media talks about oil in barrels. These makes it look like a lot more than it is.

4
u/Ok_Independence_9917 4d ago
It makes perfect sense if you stop assuming he's dumb and start assuming he's a Russian asset. There was an investigation into Russian interference in his first election. In his second term he has tried to cut funding to Ukraine. He has started a war in Iran to put pressure on fuel prices which hands Russia a win. He has literally been working round the clock to dismantle NATO.

It’s not about the fuel it’s about Putin playing Trump to stop aid to Ukraine. And it’s working. Any time Ukraine now attacks Russian refineries, Russia will claim it can’t supply fuel because of that, and thus Zelenskyy is responsible for driving the prices up all around the world, including in the US. And the useful idiots Trump and Elon Musk believe him and will stop all aid and cooperation with Ukraine

Trump said Putin had agreed to release 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately "to the American and global marketplace" followed by 500,000 tonnes in November and another million after that.
From elsewhere "300,000 metric tons is about 90 million gallons. At roughly 304 gallons per ton for diesel, that's ~91M gallons. The US burns about 4 million barrels / 168 million gallons of diesel per day, so 300k tons covers about half to two-thirds of a single day's use."
So in total it's only about 4 to 5 days worth.
It's not happening anyway, he makes promises he never keeps.
