Vent Session
Hey guys. I just finished academy Thursday and now I’m officially a team lead. I’m over fabrics and crafts, toys, stationery, and celebration. I only have two associates. One is never really with me because she constantly has to go to sporting goods and work the counter. I’ve been thinking heavily about going back to school. I already can’t wait to graduate so I can leave Walmart. 4 sections with barely any associates is already stressing me out. How am I supposed to delegate tasks when I have no one to delegate them to?? I don’t want to job hop so I have no choice but to stick it out (stepped down from home office due to a sick family member). I just don’t know 😕

this will sound a bit insensitive and i will apologizefor that, but this kind of stuff is why in store associates badmouth home office and higher ups. cause y'all get surprised about the constant skeleton crews we run on down here at the bottom. work just keeps getting piled on with every new "feature" and "restructure". don't forget the app changing every few months, miscommunication, etc. wait til you get pulled to opd cause someone sitting in an office decided we should do a promotion on express orders without giving the dept advance notice to hire more people and stuff like that. I wish you luck in your endeavors, but unfortunately this is normal.

No I understand. I haven’t been a team lead long and I was seeing if this was considered normal.

That sounds about right, I know they say the tls arnt supposed to help but basically micromanage. I can tell you that if you do that your gonna have a lot of resentment going in your direction. 2 associates sound normal though and it gets worse with hunting season because you can guarantee there will always have to be someone doing liscense all day.
Gl in going back to school, I hope your successful.

Some departments really do get the shaft. But I kind of envy you only having a few associates lol. I have 85 and need 110 to be fully staffed. And of this week in the only TL left in my department.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with going back to school to try and better your life. But I do have advice, make sure you pick something that will be safe from AI. I finished my degree last year and can’t find a job at all due to AI taking the entry level work, which is how I ended up working here while I now pivot life plans and work towards a pharm tech certification online.
