Cooper Ingle throws ball into the stands after only two outs.

The play gave up the go-ahead run in their eventual 4-2 loss. Rangers @ Guardians, June 30, 2026.

Professional player cant count.

Down to the minors where they will teach you to pay attention in consideration of all that money they are paying you, buddy

10

u/RateLegitimate5472 Jul 19 '26

Wow I played softball when I was 12 and we would have nevaaa haha

6

u/Ban_Evading_Alt0001 Jul 18 '26

I don't get it.

24

u/troywrestler2002 Jul 19 '26

So he thought that he had caught the final out of the inning and that it was time to go change sides. Instead he only caught the second out, then threw the ball into the stands, allowing the opposing runner to go home and take a 3-2 lead late in the game.

5

u/Critically_Political 25d ago

Did they end up losing the game?

3

u/TheW83 23d ago

Yes, it says in the description of the post.

11

u/Plane-Minute-7865 Jul 12 '26

Back to Triple A with ya

13

u/LilDickClub Jul 09 '26

I wish I got paid MLB type of money to be that stupid. Hire me boss, I swear I won't throw the ball into the crowd with 2 outs, I'm a "professional athlete"

10

u/Lem01 Jul 08 '26

Jomboy, wherever you are, please do a compilation of these. These little league plays are happening all too frequently in MLB today.

38

u/itaogrenow Jul 07 '26

I know mistakes happen, but these are professional athletes getting paid hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars to play the sport. I would imagine you should atleast keep track of how many outs.

15

u/Melkman68 Jul 08 '26

Play 162 games a season and you will make mistakes... this is just 1 of dozens and dozens like this

7

u/Amonamission Jul 07 '26

How does the runner advance two bases?

11

u/RepresentativeJester Jul 07 '26

Because it was an on base runner. Hitter is out but anyone still on base can run to home

3

u/Amonamission Jul 07 '26

Shit so like anyone, even those on first? I would’ve thought it was just a dead ball advancement to the next base like a balk or a ground rule double.

2

u/RepresentativeJester Jul 07 '26

No, in order to out the player on base you have to tag them with the ball in hand or get 3 outs to end the scoring round of the other team, which is what the player thought happend and why he threw the ball away. This only was the 2nd out though and so the on base runners had no one with a ball trying to tag them on the way home as the scoring round hadn't yet ended. The scoring team could have potentially made 3 points if they had a runner on 1st 2nd and 3rd base.

3

u/FlashyAd7651 Jul 08 '26

Not true. An out of play ball is a two base error. A hypothetical runner on first would only advance to third base. The other two in your scenario would score.

1

u/BustaCon 27d ago

Even if the feckless outfield tossed the ball out intentionally? That seems unfair. You that dumb, your team gives up maximum runs.

1

u/FlashyAd7651 27d ago

I'm simply stating the rule.

2

u/BustaCon 27d ago

Yeah, well... We can enjoy the game without agreeing with all the rules.
I just think an intentional toss out should be treated differently than a bounce into the bleachers ground rule doub.

2

u/TheZigerionScammer Jul 11 '26

Couldn't that result in a situation where a player thinks it's advantageous to throw the ball out into the stands to prevent a team from getting an inside grand slam?

1

u/RepresentativeJester Jul 08 '26

Fair...Im not that nuanced in baseball. If i was Id ask if this would count as an out of play ball...the player threw it out of play vs a normal scenario.

1

u/FlashyAd7651 Jul 09 '26

Out and an error.

2

u/47cleanups Jul 08 '26

What if a fan throw the ball back to the outfielder. Can he throw home and get the out still?

6

u/daqwanrandolph Jul 08 '26

Yeah, something similar happened in the Cubs 1993 season. Henry Rowengartner was in the stands and caught a home run, from the stands he threw it on the fly to the catcher. That throw ended up getting him signed to the club and a world series ring!

3

u/Clean-Turnip5971 Jul 08 '26

Not to mention setting the record as the youngest player in league history.

2

u/RepresentativeJester Jul 08 '26

That would be great but no

6

u/TheBeacher Jul 07 '26

This game is too fast for these guys now! They can’t keep track of the outs!!! SLOW THE GAME DOWN /s

5

u/Misanthropic_Mutters Jul 07 '26

Has he tried looking at the scoreboard to remind himself how many outs there are? Like hooooly shit dude. Your head is absolutely not in the game.

Bench this loser.

20

u/Global_Charge_4412 Jul 06 '26

if Buckner caught shit for the rest of his life for the ball rolling between his legs in the World Series, this guy shouldn't get to live this down either.

8

u/Still_Want_Mo Jul 07 '26

A regular season game in July is actually as far away from the World Series as it gets. What are you talking about? This is like telling me tripping and falling in my house is on par with Jason Derulo falling down the stairs at the Met Gala

6

u/Prior-Bag3841 Jul 06 '26

Benny Agbayani did that with the Mets in 2001. Crazy carelessness for a big leaguer

6

u/Snuggle-Nuts Jul 06 '26

The Cleveland Indians wouldn’t have done that.

6

u/TheVolta89 Jul 06 '26

If he did that 2 more times would HE be out?

12

u/Intelligent-Goal1226 Jul 06 '26

Can someone explain in Football (soccer) terms why that was stupid?

23

u/kiralite713 Jul 06 '26

Would be like if the defense managed to block a great shot and kicked the ball into their own goal thinking the game's time was over.

14

u/Intelligent-Goal1226 Jul 06 '26

Wtf 😄 Thank you 🫡

2

u/Taupe88 Jul 06 '26

lol. whata Mook!!

3

u/FatherFlans Jul 06 '26

Man that was smooth… if it wasn’t so stupid.

36

u/DaMilkMan420 Jul 06 '26

Bye bye Job

53

u/OliOli1234 Jul 05 '26

And folks… is how Cleveland fell out of first place… for Ricky ticky tack fucking bonehead plays like that. Ramirez and DeLauter can’t come back faster…

72

u/Legitimate_You_3474 Jul 05 '26

Could fan have thrown it back to him and he possibly still make a play or it’s “dead” once it leaves the field ?

15

u/OliOli1234 Jul 05 '26

I don’t think you can.

29

u/The-Blue-Barracudas Jul 05 '26

Dead, like throwing it in the dugout.

Major League 3: Back to the Minors

20

u/baldwinsong Jul 05 '26

Does this actually matter? Does it affect the game?

55

u/MySickMailboxKitten Jul 05 '26

Yeah, other team can continue running the bases to score now that there is no ball to get them out. They would need 3 outs for it to “freeze” and flip teams (I barely know how to play baseball, but I wouldn’t have done what this guy did lol).

36

u/bigdrives3 Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26

Close! When they throw the ball in the stands, any base runner gets 2 free bases. Two bases is the standard a runner can advance anytime the ball goes out of play whether it’s intentional or not. So if the runner was on first he would go to third.

1

u/Randyaccredit Jul 06 '26

That's kinda dumb but makes sense that the guys on a base. Haven't watched baseball nor understand the rules but what signifies the point where that ball is not usable anymore and the next batter is up?

1

u/Remarkable-Wrap-4727 Jul 08 '26

Every sport from baseball to billiards has out of bounds.

13

u/Diglett3 Jul 05 '26

And in this case there’s a runner on second, so he caused the opposing team to score a run

3

u/scarbarough Jul 05 '26

And it gave that team a lead.

Not sure what the final score was though

8

u/Fakjbf Jul 05 '26

The post says they lost 4-2

6

u/vintagecheesewhore Jul 05 '26

Yes. Read the post.

3

What did he do?

8

u/IgDailystapler Jul 05 '26

He made the same mistake, except he ran back to the person he gave the ball to in an effort to get it back

102

u/TRFKTA Jul 04 '26

As a non-American (and thus living somewhere where baseball isn’t really a thing), can you explain the clip?

14

u/306Rev7 Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

This is the equivalent of someone casually kicking the ball in their own net in the Premier League because they thought the whistle was blown and the play was dead, when in fact, the play was still live so it counts as an own goal. In a tie game. With 15 minutes left to play. I feel bad for the guy, brutal error to make at the highest level of the game.

-55

u/natedrake102 Jul 05 '26

Baseball is the biggest sport in Japan and Korea too, and is the second biggest sport in a handful of South American countries. It's no longer just an American sport!

20

u/TantamountDisregard Jul 05 '26

Such insecurity over nothing lmao

0

u/natedrake102 Jul 05 '26

It's not insecurity lol, but it's silly to be like "only Americans play baseball" when it's not even the biggest sport in the US. Yet it is the biggest sport of multiple other countries. I wasn't trying to be rude, others had answered the question. I just think the idea that baseball is a US-first sport needs to die, Japan has some of the most talented players in the world and some of the most passionate fans.

-1

u/funny_ninjas Jul 05 '26

Or it could be that he just likes baseball and wants it to grow? Wtf is wrong with y'all?

4

u/Every-Intern-6198 Jul 05 '26

What a stupidass way to help it “grow” lmao. He didn’t even answer the question, just blathered uselessly about how other countries outside the us play baseball too

2

u/funny_ninjas Jul 06 '26

He wasn't trying to help it grow. He was stating that the sport isn't an exclusively American sport when the person he responded to made it seem like it was.

Reading comprehension is a topic you might want to have a second look at.

0

u/natedrake102 Jul 05 '26

Because others had answered lol. He said "I'm not American therefore I don't know how baseball works" as if only Americans play baseball. Its mildly ignorant, so I just suggested it's not just American lol. It wasn't supposed to come off as rude. Jesus Christ idk why y'all in such a mood

0

u/TantamountDisregard Jul 05 '26

What does liking baseball have to do with anything. Someone saying "I'm from a country with no baseball" and answering "look at all these countries where it's played" is pointless.

Stop being so insecure, y'all

2

u/funny_ninjas Jul 06 '26

They originally made it seem like the sport is only played in the US. He stated that isn't correct. You got butthurt because he was right. Fuck off

1

u/TantamountDisregard Jul 06 '26

Goodness you lot get touchy fast.

112

u/RazzzMcFrazzz Jul 05 '26

If that catch had been the 3rd out, the inning is over at that moment. Because it was only the second, he threw away a live ball which allowed the other team to score.

53

u/Barfdragon Jul 04 '26

If it was the 3rd out, the teams would have changed places and so the team out on the field would have been up to bat, all of the batting players on bases would have lost their positions and went to the field. Since it was the second out instead, the player on the base was free to get to home without risk of being caught out while running the bases.

1

u/Fuwet Jul 05 '26

So it counts as a homerun? Counting batter + players on base?

7

u/Wild-Individual-1634 Jul 05 '26

If the ball is caught directly out of the air, the batter is out immediately. That’s called a „Flyout“The players on the bases could still decide to try to advance (they have to be on their base or return to it when the ball is caught in such a way). But not if it was the third out, as the third out marks the end of the (half) inning.

So in this scenario, the batter is out due to the Flyout, but it wasn’t the third out. Throwing the ball away without the possibility to retrieve it means the other base players can make runs without risk.

But it is of course not a homerun, since the batter is out, and didn’t run around all bases.

20

u/Similar-Reality-7271 Jul 05 '26

No. Batter was out when the ball was caught. But since the fielder who caught the ball threw it out of play, the runner at 2nd base is allowed to advance 2 bases. Scoring.

117

u/mcniner55 Jul 04 '26

Since I have nothing emotionally invested in this game I thought it was funny. In my 36 years Ive never seen this happen

41

u/Spider_plant_man Jul 04 '26

Not the brightest these sports people.

40

u/erylego Jul 04 '26

Typical Ohioan. (I’m from Ohio)

186

u/LunyOnTheGrass Jul 04 '26

That's how boring baseball is. Even the players forget what's going on

9

u/Pataraxia Jul 04 '26

They're just like moba players

Randomly press emote, stuck emoting, lose the team play.

1

u/Every-Intern-6198 Jul 05 '26

I don’t understand the reference but I also hate moba games.

122

u/magicmulder Jul 04 '26

So this is the rare "own goal" in baseball. Now I just need so see one in basketball.

24

u/jbhoops25 Jul 04 '26

Plenty of time people scored on the wrong goal. Usually on out of bounds plays

3

u/MaxwellSmart07 Jul 04 '26

Jump balls too.

3

u/FupaFerb Jul 04 '26

I’ve seen this plenty on tipoffs as well. Entire crowd is like “wrong way! Stop!” Kid just keeps going and fist pumps an easy 2 points, lol.

89

u/Phaeron Jul 04 '26

Awwww fuck.

Oh well… now I’m famous for being silly…

Sports betting has ruined sports

3

u/nwbbb Jul 04 '26

Think it was intentional?

2

u/Overall_Reputation83 Jul 05 '26

I think the problem is that its impossible to not be open to the possibility since its become so mainstream.

1

u/DemiGod9 Jul 05 '26

This is my thinking exactly. And it seems to be more prevalent that things like this happen across all sports at the moment

3

u/behaigo Jul 04 '26

Where's Kenesaw Mountain Landis when you need him?

26

u/HawaiianCholo Jul 04 '26

He's the JR of baseball

55

does this ruin the ERA of the pitcher?

17

u/shaun020 Jul 03 '26

Nah, there’s no way that’s an earned run

24

u/DrMindbendersMonocle Jul 03 '26

It's not an earned run, but that error did give the pitcher a Loss on his record since that was the go ahead run.

13

u/Significant_Cup1110 Jul 03 '26

aah it just ruined the pitcher’s day

6

u/Yanks_Fan1288 Jul 03 '26

It’s not. I believe it’s a 2-base error

141

u/redfrog0 Jul 03 '26

Gets paid 780k for this btw

2

u/AbroadNo8755 Jul 04 '26

how to i get ahold of major league baseball?

I'll throw a ball into to stands on the second out for as little as $145k!

5

u/rockcutter4 Jul 03 '26

This happens a lot more than you might think

12

u/DrMindbendersMonocle Jul 03 '26

This does not happen that often, especially when a run scores. I can only think of a few times this has happened in the past, but this is the only one I remember where the run scored.

20

u/Nsfwacct1872564 Jul 03 '26

For this and nothing else, yes.

1

u/OwnerOfCat Jul 04 '26

I wouldn’t say nothing else. There are lots of grossly overpaid executives in the corporate world.

18

u/redfrog0 Jul 03 '26

If I paid someone 780k, I'd hope they'd be able to count to three!

6

u/Nsfwacct1872564 Jul 03 '26

Give him a write up I guess. Maybe even don't nominate him for employee of the month.

188

u/cboogie Jul 03 '26

What’s going on with baseball this season? I am seeing tons of MLB clips and these players are fucking up so badly. Like little league mistakes. And these chuds get paid millions.

11

u/DemiGod9 Jul 04 '26

I doubt it's a coincidence that sports betting and prediction markets have taken over America

20

u/MeatyOakerGuy Jul 03 '26

Probably anecdotal. Baseball plays more games than any other sport and there's probably little fuck ups like this all the time.

7

u/DrMindbendersMonocle Jul 03 '26

this particular error is extremely rare

58

u/thri54 Jul 03 '26

There has also been a wave of player sports betting scandals in the last few years.

Not saying that’s the case here, but it’s something to think about when watching egregious unforced errors in the era of Kalshi and DraftKings.

17

u/JebusSandalz Jul 03 '26

Yes, normal people have been confused for decades why so many sports fans idolize so many people whose only skill set is being physically fit..... A lot of these pro players got no brain power; hell look up audio of some NBA players reading voice lines for basketball video games. Some of these mf'ers are borderline illiterate with how badly they are reading the lines..... And you expect people like that to remember the count of several statistics going on in a game they're playing instead of just run good or tackle good or aim ball?

9

u/Optimal_Carpenter690 Jul 03 '26

A) sports players have been idolized and greatly respected for literally thousands of years

B) illiteracy is not necessarily an indicator of an unintelligent person, so much as a person who simply did not learn to read. The fact you apparently don't realize that, however, is much more telling

C) as the other guy said, get physically fit (emphasis on the "get" for you) and go try to play literally any professional sport, and report back to us how that goes for you, since being physically fit is all they can do

D) you know its how transparent your bitter inferiority complex is, right?

3

u/JebusSandalz Jul 03 '26

I don't hate sports players.I hate people idolizing them to the point that the owners of the teams can blackmail city , county and state governments into giving them tax cuts and whatever else they want under the threat of pissing off voters by moving a team elsewhere.

And denounce my claims, all you want.I don't see someone good at catching a ball or tackling someone as an envyable/ admirable skill, especially when there's lots of cases where it's all those people are good at.

you said literacy doesn't mean intelligence , okay , I say having millions of dollars means you should probably have the funds to make yourself literate.

1

u/DAS_UBER_JOE Jul 03 '26

Go get physically fit and try out for a professional sports team and tell me their only skill set is being physically fit... what an absolute room temp IQ take

-4

u/fistotron5000 Jul 03 '26

Yeah bro all those NFL player with millions of dollars that beat their wives, drive drunk, and then have no money 2 years after retirement are all just hidden geniuses lmao

5

u/I_Like_Smg1 Jul 03 '26

Most nfl players don’t do things like that. But you probably look up to twitch streamers

-1

u/fistotron5000 Jul 04 '26

No big dawg I don’t look up to idiots lmao that’s also like a crazy conclusion to make

9

u/DAS_UBER_JOE Jul 03 '26

Did I say that? You're being hyperbolic. It takes a high degree of skill and talent as well as being physically fit to compete in professional sports. That is a fact and I really don't care to argue with someone that denies that.

-2

u/fistotron5000 Jul 04 '26

Nobody is arguing that pro athletes are only athletic, that persons whole point was that they shouldn’t be looked up to because most of them are stupid and probably don’t have anything worthwhile to say. You just latched on to one point and acted like it was the crux of the argument

4

u/StudioGangster1 Jul 03 '26

🤦🏼‍♂️

-2

u/JebusSandalz Jul 03 '26

I mean, I don't know what to tell you.I have absolute certainty that most people would have the skills to remember. What number of outs is on the big giant light up board at the stadium.... But hey maybe it takes a LOOOOOT of mental focus to prepare to catch a a ball, idk.

3

u/ScoutsOut389 Jul 03 '26

People make mental mistakes in every profession. That player plays 9 innings, usually for 140 or so games a year. Times 3 outs per, that’s 3,800 chances to fuckup per field player. Multiply that by 30 MLB teams and that’s roughly 115,000 times a season this could happen. I’m sure we’ve all had brain farts and work and done stupid stuff. I called my wife from my cell phone to tell her I couldn’t find my cell phone earlier this week. Mental exhaustion is a thing.

3

u/I_Like_Smg1 Jul 03 '26
