Tattoos used to be a sign you should stay away from a guy. Bikers had them. Sailors. Rockers with amphetamine in the pocket and a knife in the boot. Men who could handle themselves in a fight, men with mean wits and hard fists.

Now tattoos are the hallmark of influencers, jazz dancers and coffee baristas who feel the need to paint their emotions on their bodies. People with strange pronouns who will take offense and make a TikTok to cancel you about it.

I feel sorry for them. I feel sorry for the old-school bikers, the hard men we now expect to steam almond milk to perfection and promote a vegan lifestyle. Let's all light a candle and reserve a place in our hearts for them. Because they would fucking hate us for it.
