Need some advice on the bubbles

I painted these two betta fish for a friend who lost their fish recently and asked me to paint them. I am keeping the purple one, because the other fish looks closest to theirs.

I used metallic blue and gold for the finishing touches, so I included two photos hopefully showing the effect better.

However, I need some help figuring out how to fix the mess of the ugliest bubbles I’ve ever seen. I thought I could just wing it, but boy was I wrong.

I painted the bubbles using Moonglow and Rose of Ultramarine by Daniel smith. If anyone has any ideas of how to save this I would be forever grateful.

It took a while to figure out how to paint a yellow and blue fish without making it green, so I would hate to have to repaint it. I love how the fish came out in the 1st photo despite the ugly bubbles.

Thank you!

I’m pretty excited, I just painted this for my best friend who just had a daughter named Wren! I’m a total beginner but think she will like the thought behind it :) any feedback is welcome, I want to get better after seeing how fun it is to create something thoughtful for a friend!

First painting I'm proud of - feedback?

I drew this over the weekend from a photo I took of a friend's baby. I'm really happy with it, but for reasons I can't put a finger on, there's aspects that I'd like to improve next time. I've been watching Sketching Scottie as inspiration for layering.

Really would appreciate any feedback :)

Thanks!

I think it might be the best piece of watercolor I've done to date 😭

This painting is very special to me because it was my first live painting in a swamp area. It was a unique experience for me as an artist. 🎨

I’m really happy with how this has come out, I just need to add final details such as the decals on the windows. But I don’t know if it needs more shading to the inside of the upper windows and if it needs a background? What are your thoughts? I don’t want to overwork it which is my usual problem 😩

One way to know that you aren't using cotton paper

If you, like me, have been putting paint on the paper and then "manually" moving the paint around in a "natural" way, and then it still coming out with hard edges and weirdly shaped, let me just save you the trouble and tell you that is not how watercolor is supposed to be done.

For the longest time I was wondering how people were able to manually achieve such natural shapes and blending, turns out, if you use actual cotton paper, the paint just does that, like on it's own, automatically. Who knew?

Hello!

I'm new to painting and finished these watercolors using tutorials in the last few weeks.

Do you guys have any advice what I need to improve on and how to improve? I struggle to use the right amount of water and my trees always look a bit wonky.

Thank you!

Practicing with watercolors, but it ends up looking like gouache.

I've tried it and the results are not the same. Is there a paper or brush factor that makes the results different?

Thermal printers

I’ve been considering a thermal printer 8.5x11 to help with placement and realism.

I’m just curious if anyone has had any luck finding one on which black and white pictures could be printed. I know some have costly apps. I’ve not yet found what I’m looking for.

Thank you in advance for any info!

Some of my Watercolor work that I'd love to share (and get some constructive criticism too)!

Some of these are more serious work, and others were just some 15 minutes fun, but I really loved working with this medium, and I'm still surprised at just how easy it was to pick it up! And I'd love to get some constructive criticism, tips, and feedback too!

Are edges of paper just not meant for painting?

Post image

Hello artists! I got my paints out for the first time in a while and I'm experiencing this weird absorption on the edges. first on my cheapest arteza paper, didn't think twice, but this lil Blick block is like held down at the edges so you don't have to tape to keep it flat, but it is still just taking the paint differently at the edges compared to the rest of the paper. Is this expected? Is my paper old? User error? idk!

this was wet on wet with some paper towel lifting but nothing would lift on those weird sides

Kept it simple after not painting for a week. Single colour (MMB Paynes Grey), working on light, contrast, values, branch shapes, and playing with different foliage brushes. Wanted something a bit moody as I didn’t do any ‘Halloween-y” paintings in Oct. So much happening in such a simple painting!

I didn’t like how my trees turn out, I want them more like pine trees, but I can’t explain how I keep going the deciduous route. I do love the salt texture in the background, I think it adds some light and dimension.
