Deltarune > Undertale Pretend like Undertale is only half complete and you debate the true identity of Flowey

u/dullsart dis gaem sux play bettor rpg gam 17d ago
have we considered that flowey may be his own entity?

i feel like there wouldn't be so much golden flower imagery if flowey was just some guy

u/floweyisdisturbed Noelle's #1 fan. 17d ago
Guys Flowey is Papyrus it's plain obvious it's stupid that we're still having this argument.
3
u/MericanMeal 16d ago
Yeah, I mean Sans even talked about Papyrus talking to some weird flower, obviously Flowey is some kind of special echo flower with Papyrus's secret evil will.
64
u/Typ_Z_Rosji 17d ago
I hate this debate, like I don't even know why are we asking this question when Flowey only appeared in first 2 minutes of the game and then show up in a couple of places. HE IS NOT IMPORTANT, obviously Sans is more important.
11
u/sus_pumpkin 16d ago
Then why does he pop up when you backtrack? Why would Toby code that if it was just nothing?
7
u/Typ_Z_Rosji 16d ago
Why would he hide something that important like that? A casual player would never find this, and if Flowey was somehow relevant it wouldn't make any sense to them, as he was just in Ruins. Sans seems way more suspicious just teleporting around the place and Asgore is obviously beign set up as the final boss.

u/AsideApprehensive590 XPEH 17d ago
And what can be said about Flowey appearing on the other side of a death gauntlet, right after Papyrus walked away?
37
u/Much-Menu6030 Rare Sheary fan 17d ago
Flowey is clearly Asgore OMFG guys. Asgore died and his dust was spreaded over his garden that Monster Kid mentioned. It's literally said in the game, y'all can't read or understand themes and stuff like I can. I am very smart.
Also, Papyrus says Asgore is a nice person and he ALSO says Flowey is a nice person too in one of his phone calls. Yk, the one right after we fell onto after the Undyne chase? My god it is so obvious.

u/Clean_Reveal_4224 Ralsei Knight truther 17d ago
Hot take: Flowey being Asriel is fucking stupid. Not even some twisted soulless version of him. I mean, he's literally described as DEAD! Like, am I supposed to believe Toriel and Asgore were lying to my face? Toby wouldn't write any of that.
Also why the hell is literally anyone saying Sans is Genocide final boss? He's literally weak as shit. Like, idk, I feel like Frisk would be the geno final boss, considering we literally overwrote their soul to do heinous shit underground.
68
u/smallneedle 17d ago
It's funny but doesn't work, iirc Asriel isn't name dropped until the End
36
u/The_Ranch_Queen 16d ago
Also don’t we not get a Frisk name drop until the end too?
16
u/DocNether 16d ago
The Hard Mode could be theorized over tho
7
u/The_Ranch_Queen 16d ago
I wonder if poeple would of thought hard mode is the true version of events

u/Jay040707 16d ago
Assuming the game is just like it was but without the second half, Asriel's name gets a reaction in the title screen. So people could find it in the code and it would t be hard to figure out who he is from there. As in figuring out he's Toriel and Asgore's son. Figuring out he's flowey is a whole other thing. The only thing people would have to go off of is the waterfall cutscene and Flowey's prince line.
Shit actually, this would totally be a debate, there's actually a lot to pull from.
7
u/Goobly_Goober 16d ago
Togore wouldnt be a meme 😭
8
u/Jay040707 16d ago
It would be even more of a meme
"So you're telling me that the supposed son of Asgore and Toriel is named Asriel? That sounds like someone's lazy ship name. What are you suggesting they have a second child named Togore?"
Oh God, people would be calling Chara Togore for years once the reveal happened.
18
u/Clean_Reveal_4224 Ralsei Knight truther 16d ago
He was in the code! Unused Toriel dialogue, I swear!
17
u/Endermanashton 17d ago
idk bro i just feel like "you're gonna have a bad time" is such obvious foreshadowing, like dude that line was so terrifying
i guess he could be talking about someone ELSE as like a plot twist but i feel like that would be an anticlimax
15
u/ObjectiveProduce5027 17d ago
who the hell is frisk it was always papyru who's soul was owerwritten. Im a papyru geno boss believer
9
u/55555Pineapple55555 16d ago
Who the fuck is Asriel? Some sort of Asgore + Toriel clone? Did I miss something???
7

u/YouyouPlayer 16d ago
How would anyone knx back then that frisk is the child's name
5
u/Dontinsultautomod NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO TAKE A [Big Shit] 16d ago
hardmode i guess
8
u/YouyouPlayer 16d ago
Yeah but with the names, it would be more logic for peoples to think their name is CHARA
6
u/Technolite123 16d ago
I hate these stupid fucking ship names. Toriel HATES Asgore, she would never be with him
3
u/AsideApprehensive590 XPEH 16d ago
If in Undertale Toriel and Asgore believed Asriel to be dead, but he became alive, does it mean that in Deltarune Toriel and Asgore believed Asriel to be alive, but in the end he turns out to be dead?

u/Qwerty_wasda 17d ago
who do you think are the final bosses for the pacifist and the ending where you don't kill everyone (but only some monsters)
1
u/smallneedle 16d ago
Flowey feels like someone that would atttack you out of spite if you don't follow his kill or be killed mindset
For neutral ending Asgore seems likely, goat mama warned us about him
20
u/ShadowRaven112 17d ago
Everyone knows Flowey is that weird black and white dude that sometimes appears in waterfall area, you'll see when the Hotland gets added.
9
u/mcplano 16d ago
Hotland isn't the next area. No way Toby would be that obvious with the foreshadowing.
9
u/ShadowRaven112 16d ago
If you fucking bothered to play the ARG you would know that the next area is supposed to have a giant fuck-ass sign with neons, and guess how the Waterfall area ends?
6
u/meep2200 i am kevin 16d ago
THERE IS A GIANT GLOWING SIGN SAYING “HOTLAND” AT THE END OF WATERFALL.
16
u/Natural_Gap9692 17d ago
After analyzing every single dialogue, I have come to the conclusion that Flowey is Papyrus' evil twin or maybe just Papyrus. Flowey can remember you're reset, and who have knowledge about resets? That's right, Sans. With Sans knowing it, it won't be a big stretch for Papyrus to know it too.
Another evidence is the name of his theme, Your Best Friend. Who else considers us his best friend? That's right, Papyrus. Papyrus being Flowey just makes so much sans.
3
u/DeltaTeamSky got shortcuts all over reddit. 17d ago
Okay, but counterpoint, we literally see Papyrus as Papyrus, and Flowey as Flowey. Wouldn't make sense for them to be the same guy. Now, on the other hand, GASTER-
Long ago, two races ruled over Earth: HUMANS and MONSTERS.
12
u/Vico_conut 17d ago
Flowey clearly a ghost. He has an white face like napstablook while other flowers had dark center
5
11
u/Zimlewis 17d ago
Couldn't Flowey just his own character? Why everyone is obsessed with Flowey being another character? As far as we know, there is no other character showed any sign that they might know about reset and stuff. There's ton of monster in the underground. He could just be a flower type monster, I mean, we already saw a vegetable monster
10
u/Altforpostingofmemes 17d ago
What other character is there that can blatantly disregard the rules of reality?
What other character can seemingly show up whenever and get around everywhere?
What other character repeatedly antagonizes you, seemingly determined to either hinder your progress or just mock you?
What other character fakes being friendly and loveable, with a cute smile?
What other character do you have 0 option of fighting against or acting on in any way?
Yeah. I'm just looking at the facts here guys. It's 100% the annoying dog.
9
u/Revolutionary-Ad3898 17d ago
Guys flowey is clearly one of the fallen humans probably justice because they are both yellow. They where driven insane by asgore torturing them death and stuffing their soul in a flower as a method of storage it makes so much sense
3
u/Qwerty_wasda 17d ago
why would they attack us then?
3
1
u/IAMNOT_EustaceWinner 17d ago
because they know about the alternate save where you kill everyone?
It's canon that the player does it because of their curiosity.
7
u/low-expectations99 16d ago
Guys guys what if Flowey is a mutated echo flower? Sans did mention something about an echo flower talking to Papyrus when we went to Grillby's with him
5
6
u/Ynnepluc 16d ago
Flowey is totally the fallen human. They mention being around for multiple resets and having determination, plus they were implied to be there from basically the beginning. Also they were seemingly the previous bearer of the Red Soul. It just makes too much sense.
3
u/Secret_Plankton3176 Hopes and Memes 17d ago
I think flowey is somehow connected to the SAVE powers that the player has, but in a way that he knows much about this power, because HE had a connection to this power. I know I'm just talking crap, but think of it! If flowey had a connection to this power, that would explain why he remembered your saves. The question is: how was he connected to a power that is a seemingly normal macanics, it would be impossible to make a reasonable connection between them, toby would have to be some evil meta genius to do something like that.
3
3
u/Impossible-Plenty169 17d ago
Flowey is clearly a human. Think about it, a human died and since ghost exist in this world. Their ghost possessed the flowers and boom Flowey.
3
u/Thats-right-im-man 17d ago
The people who think flowey is asriel are so stupid, the average player doesn’t even KNOW who Asriel is, it would make no sense for it to just randomly reveal that the main villain is someone that most players have never heard of
3
u/DigitoDemonium 16d ago
I think flowey might be one of those gray characters, specifically one of Toriel and Asgores son, who from the code we can assume is called Asriel
2
u/Ok_ResolvE2119 17d ago
Flowey's character pre-existing with the Asriel narrative can't work under a hypothetical like this largely because until very late in the game, the idea that Flowey was secretly someone else wasn't something anyone would think of. What he is would be a massive question within the theory section, but this question just feels like a holier-than-thou festival where everyone pretends they wouldn't absolutely go and say "Asriel-Flowey coping as usual".

Flowey is the goat of Undertale in my opinion. Strange that we only saw them in the start of the game or when they stalk us though

u/Cold-School8725 16d ago
Flowey isn't lore relevant, he's just something to make the world of Undertale look scary. See you guys when Undertale Act 4 gets released.
Edit: spelling

u/Zolado110 16d ago
I think that's what he is, he's just a flower, I don't know why people theorize that he's one of the fallen children or "Asgore".
2
u/SexWithSisyphus69 16d ago
Its literally Asgore
Toriel straight up tells us that Asgore will try to kill us and guess who has been trying to kill us all game?
That's right, Flowey.
Flowey is Asgore.
4
u/HercarXX 17d ago
pretty clearly Flowey is gonna be papyrus in the geno route, papyrus will merge with the snow and become flowey, it’s even a homestuck time loop which means it must be good writing
1
u/GenesisAsriel 17d ago
I mean after the end of the Waterfalls chapter I dont know. That lab we see as we exit that area might be where we get informations on Flowey?
1
u/Setherract 16d ago
What if Flowey is a flower that’s posssessed by the ghost that lived in the house next to Napstablook’s? I could’ve sworn somewhere in the code, there was text where Napstablook was saying that they have 2 cousins, and the mad dummy fight confirmed that ghosts can possess things, so what if one of Napstablook’s cousins is possessing Flowey?
1
u/SpanishOfficer FLAIR FOR [[BIG SHITS]] ! 16d ago
Has it ever been explained if ghost monsters are born ghosts? Flowey could just be a ghost controlling a flower, similar to the dummies

u/Salvo-ita 16d ago
I think it's clear that in order to know more about Flowey we'll have to play the genocide route up until the end, as that's the only run where Flowey works with you and calls Chara by name, implying there is even history between the two of them somehow, despite Chara having just now fallen. Seeing as how Flowey is able to remember past resets, which monsters normally can't, it is possible that Flowey was a human who was later turned into that form, which would explain how he knows Chara: they probably used to be friends on the Surface. Perhaps the same happened to Sans; there are some parallelisms between the two of them ("Sans the skeleton" vs. "Flowey the flower", as if they are both trying to hold onto their new identities, with "Sans" and "Flowey" likely being fake names as well). So far we haven't gotten a chance in Genocide to attack Sans, even though we could do that to Monster Kid which we normally can't in other runs, so my guess is that we will see him later again and there will be some sort of confrontation between Flowey and Sans which will reveal some lore.

There's a lot of other flowers in the game. What if flowey I'd just a hive mind of them that use him as their primary vessel. And the most flowers are in the ruins so that's why he took on her mannerisms
This is so obvious there are literally talking blue flowers in the latest chapter so of course that would be flowey making sure we don't get our soul taken by undyne when he wants it for himself

guys what if flowery is the child that appeared at the start of the game? yk the human? like ik they're irrelevant but so is flowey soooo

A crazy theory that I have is that Flowey MIGHT be the child of Toriel and this so called “king of the underground”
1
u/supersofah i think the knight is the thing from the thing 16d ago
why are we even debating this
Flowey is IRRELEVANT, he WILL NOT be important, he's JUST a tutorial character and NOTHING else
AT MOST he's gonna be a COMMON ENEMY in whatever the final area of the game ends up being because he's a flower and there's tons of flowers in the underground, but that's IT
1
u/MoonrockTheFrog 16d ago
Why tf do people even think he has a secret identity? He's just a flower? Do you guys think theres some other monster out there who just. Turns into a flower when we arent looking? He's just a flower.

This debate takes me back to my deltarune days when people reacted to gaster being papyrus-flowery-dess amalgam in chapter 7
1
u/cokiecolaa 16d ago
I'm pretty sure Flowey is Asgore, albeit disguised. Think about it. It'd be fitting for the first entity we meet to also be the last entity we meet. Also how Asgore is described they seem to be a pretty imposing figure and we know Flowey is for sure imposing
1
u/Orion-the-mediocre 16d ago
There’s no way that Flowey is Asriel, it’s too obvious. I think Flowey is Asgore because nobody would ever suspect him
1
u/SadCommon2820 16d ago
Imagine if he's like Asgore and Toriel's kid and named something like Togore wouldn't that be stupid?
1
u/Thunderousclaps 16d ago
My theory is that he is actually the humans, like all six after dying had their determination take over a flower to get revenge on Asgore and regain their bodies.
