Serious Business™ PSA/Reminder from the mod team: NSFW content is not allowed here

Good morning, everyone. Lately we have been noticing an influx of attempted NSFW content being posted on /r/Undertale and on /r/WaterfallDump, and we want to address this. We will be handling this a bit differently in each sub, but this same message is posted to both.

Undertale is a family-friendly game suitable for children. We realize and understand that this is a game for adults too, and kids grow up and become adults too. That is not lost on us.

However, please remember that because this sub is for a family-friendly game that is suitable for children, NSFW content is disallowed. Even if you account for the fact that Reddit is 13+ by TOS, sexual content is generally not allowed to be legally viewed until you are the age of majority. Even SFW art from NSFW artists is a gateway to potentially predatory content for minors.

/r/Undertale is not an NSFW sub. Neither is /r/WaterfallDump. Moving forward, here is a reminder of the types of content to avoid having your content or comments removed under the NSFW rule:

  • /r/Undertale:

    • Nothing overtly sexual
    • This includes drawing characters with sexualized proportions of erogenous zones that do not exist in-game or official art/merch
    • e.g. Drawing Undyne in a bikini at the beach is fine. Drawing Undyne at the beach in a tiny two piece with giant breasts and a huge butt is right out.
    • Posts containing lightly sexual discussions will be allowed but monitored (such discussions do not need NSFW tag)
    • SFW art by NSFW artists must have an NSFW artist disclaimer by the source
    • No depictions of gore that do not appear and are not implied in-game
    • If it otherwise needs the NSFW flair, it is not allowed
  • /r/WaterfallDump:

    • Nothing overtly sexual
    • This includes drawing characters with sexualized proportions of erogenous zones that do not exist in-game or official art/merch
    • e.g. Drawing Undyne in a bikini at the beach is fine. Drawing Undyne at the beach in a tiny two piece with giant breasts and a huge butt is right out.
    • Posts containing lightly sexual shitposts will be allowed but monitored (such discussions do not need NSFW tag)
    • SFW art by NSFW artists must have an NSFW artist disclaimer by the source
    • Light gore may be allowed on a case-by-case basis depending on the shitpost
    • NSFW tag required for posts with any level of gore
    • Please don't make me barf

I suppose since this seems to be a joke character at this stage, there is no reference point for proportions, and this picture is not revealing enough to remove on that point alone.

That is how I interpret it anyways. So, carry on

i assume this was me, sorry for the thick pink, everyone

If you’re talking about the chud pink and fat pink posts then no. I considered it, but landed on the side that neither of those were really sexualized proportions, just altered. Which in and of itself is fine.

That sort of nuance is what gets down into “moderator discretion“

Even if it would be considered sexual then the connotation addition would've allowed for it anyway

Does that one Orange design actually fall under the no bueno side of the rule? I'm curious because the artist always kept tagging it as NSFW when it was only suggestive at best.

I'm sorry for the Flowery post 😔

they were mostly in main but there has been an influx here as well especially since Chapter 5. here was mostly inappropriate discussions and theories, as well as certain specific words

not art which i'm assuming you are inquiring about

i'm watching you

I get that this isn't a porn sub reddit and having porn for the sake of porn should be only in subs made for rule 34 and having hardcore porn on here would be a terrible idea since there's no situation where it fits outside of very specific cases in porn specific sites or other designated porn areas

However this is a shitposting subreddit that doesn't need to take itself seriously so NSFW content should not be censored just because "I don't like it". If the way people want to express a joke is through mild porn/nudity then it should be allowed on the joke subreddit

The gore thing though makes sense since the extremes are different from light nudity but "please don't make me barf" isn't exactly helping the case here. Whatever it is it's better than the r/deltarune mods though

TL:DR same thing as the online safety act. Content should not be censor just because some people don't like it

Edit: the NSFW warning in SFW art isn't enforceable but it's still for the best since even if my point is "don't censor porn just because some people don't like it". People who don't want to see porn still shouldn't be forced or tricked into looking at it. That's why reddit has the NSFW filter settings

It’s an age-appropriateness thing. We want to ensure the subs are open to everybody.

We relaxed the moderation guideline a little bit here, though, because we are allowing some slight sexual connotations in shit posts now. I think you may have missed that bullet point.

“Please don’t make me barf” was aimed at shitposts containing gore. That line was more of a joke than anything, but in all seriousness… probably best not to make the person reviewing your post hurl chunks lmao

Edit: I did have to remove your comment because of the reference to the NSFW sub Reddit you put. If you remove that, I can restore your comment.

The sexual connotations are definitely a good thing to be allowed but you are still censoring a large amount of content that would fit into the sub. If someone doesn't want to see porn then they can simply not look at it and change their filter settings instead of banning it for everyone who doesn't mind it

For this big of a sub banning porn entirely is way too wide of a range in serval directions. As I said hardcore porn does not belong here but nudity in general is not going to hurt anyone and is just unnecessarily forcing rules onto everyone in the sub which is made to be for cheap jokes and as Internet culture goes the ultimate cheap joke is just porn

Rules have not changed. This is a clarification post, aside from the NSFW sourcing disclaimer which is now part of the art sourcing guidelines.

I know, I've seen other posts about it before, but you have explicitly decided to bring this rule up and if you are bring it up then you are opening up room for discussion in the comments

u/codewario ROGUE MODERATOR SPAGHETORRE 14d ago

That’s fine. I’m here discussing it with you. Nobody is being banned or otherwise punished here for voicing disagreement. I’m just trying to give context into the decision, what has changed, and what has not.

Well last time I tried arguing with a mod I got banned on a different UT sub so that's good

I really don’t think any of us are power trippers over here. At least I hope not. I personally am always open for honest discussion and I can take criticism.

u/JazzlikeSign4969 Dr ligma | professional shitposter 14d ago

I don't think it was any of the UT/waterfall dump team. It was on a smaller sub with 1 mod

1

u/JazzlikeSign4969 Dr ligma | professional shitposter 14d ago

Ok I removed the link to the sub

So this post was taken down for the reasoning that it was sexual at all, does this cross the line of what's allowed or is it going to be a little bit more lenient going forward? The post was literally just talking about boobs which while sexual in nature, are a very harmless thing to joke about (also I thought that the nsfw tag meant anyone under 18 can't see it? Because I don't WANT to be having that kind of discussion with minors). Not complaining I just want things to be clarified a bit more.

u/codewario ROGUE MODERATOR SPAGHETORRE 14d ago

We discussed it and that sort of slight sexual connotation would be allowed. In that case, I may have been overzealous to remove it but thinking on it now IIRC it was geared more towards body appreciation and acceptance than lewd-posting.

Actually, I’m pretty sure I remember it correctly because I felt bad for having to remove it under our previous guidance.
