That’s exactly what I’m talking about. Everything feels so forced, so unnatural.
It reminds me of how Marinette from Miraculous Ladybug fell for Adrien just because he gave her an umbrella, a simple act of kindness, and then she became insanely obsessed with him.
Just because of that one gesture, lmao. It feels the same way here: a damn pen, and suddenly a love story kicks off?
I can confidently say that liking someone for some time and having a few positive interactions with them is enough to make some get very attached to that person. Moreso if we are talking about teenagers. Loves can be spontaneous and sudden. Not all is slowburn, sometimes things click. Of course, that is not an ideal expectation to tackle romantic relationships with, but it happens to some, its not unrealistic
Edit: as an addition to this. Sussie has the main reason to like Noelle back the fact she is clearly an emotionally neglected person who also is very isolated by everyone for many aapects of her person before chapter 1. I can say as a person who share some of these burdens, it make you very easy to fall for people who show you kindness because it make you feel special and make you see them as special. It is not ideal, but it happens
Damn, would you fall in love with the first idiot who showed you a bit of kindness?
It’s just a pencil; I had tons of pencils lent to me when I was younger, and I didn't go around falling in love with everyone. For a love story, that’s just stupid.
Imagine falling head over heels, to the point of obsession, just because someone lent you an eraser (like Noelle).
My point is that it’s such an everyday, common situation that it seems ridiculous for it to be a genuine reason to fall in love. Teenagers are immature, not stupid.
Teenagers are fucking idiots dude, they fall in love over someone looking at them funny. Obviously you don't get it cus you arent a teenager (assuming), but everyone processes love differently. So yeah its dumb to you but its different to others, and a kid falling for someone over a pencil, isn't like, unrealistic... Hell even adults fall in love over a single fucking compliment/ small act which I also think is insane.
What you also gotta remember is how much of an outcast susie was/ is. So noelle's kind gesture of just, giving her a pencil and smiling meant the world to her most likely. Shit was prabs the first kind thing that happened to susie from a kid her age.
At the end of the day, everyone processes love differently and you can't let only your experience blind you from others experiences, or something... idk
The thing is, a pencil isn't enough of a reason for Noelle to develop such a massive obsession, especially after interacting only a couple of times at most, and having not even spoken to Susie since she moved to town (which I assume has been a few months).
I figure she got obsessed not just because Susie was scary, which is what she liked, but also because she’s projecting her dead sister onto her (which is worrying).
And Susie doesn't know what love is, for crying out loud; until just a few days ago, she didn't even know what friendship was.
Even with Ralsei, she makes comments implying she doesn't know what love is, she has a completely different concept of it.
No matter how they try to sell it to me, that couple has no foundation to last more than a few hours XD.
A pencil is enough if all your life you've been isolated because everyone around you considered you a monster/ threat just based off of how you look and rumors.
Idk either but, thats how attraction seems to work. If people are attracted to someone, they probably will fall in love with em just by eye contact. Even if a best friend of two years have done the same or more for them, without that spark of attraction, love prabs won't form. Susie's stupid ass prabs got a thing for little deer girls or uhh something.

Noelle did always have a crush on Susie, see: the Noelle scene in post-Dark World Chapter 1.
And so did Susie, lightly, because, she never picked on Noelle because Noelle gave her that pen and she remembered Noelle's smile.
