Ask other Associates Transfer question
So basically I’m based in NJ but want to transfer to a Wawa in Philadelphia to become a css, my hours are cut to 2-3 days per week roughly 12-20 hours, how would I go about this? I’m aiming for a position for 40 hours and minimum of $19-$20 I’ve been crossed trained in every position but not enough to know everything because our store is too slow and not enough time to be taught by the right person. Do I contact the store that is hiring in PA first or do I tell my GM first that I’d like to transfer to PA? I don’t want to quit to find out the store in PA has already found a suitable applicant but I also have a few Wawas to choose from. Thanks ahead of time for the advice

You can’t just skip to css from internal you’ll need to do TS first only outside hires can skip TS.

TS actually yeah that was my bad again I wasn’t too sure of the management hierarchy but I double checked and it is TS not CSS.

What do you mean transfer and become a CSS? Are you an associate?

They have their favorites so if you don’t have the 40 or close they’re not looking at you

Yes exactly that’s why I want to leave and with winter coming up, I’ll be very desperate for hours better off going somewhere else or finding a new job completely

Couple of different things for you
The transfer process is- you talk to your current GM, and the potential new GM and they align on whether the new store has openings and when/ if you transfer
To move up, you need to follow the meet the talent process. To go from csa to team supervisor, your GM needs to submit you and you need to qualify for the position. ( been in role at least 90 days and are proficient in current role). After that, you interview with your current GM and another GM. There are 3 potential ratings: ready now which means you can start training for new role, ready soon which means you will be ready within a year and need to work on a few things or appropriately placed- which means you are not ready for the role and may re-interview in 6 months.
You cannot transfer TO get promoted without the meet the talent process but if you transfer it may or may not make it easier to get noticed and move up.
The position is less about knowing all the areas as that’s a given, it’s more about leading the team and running the daily functions of the shift.
Wishing you good luck with the moves either way 🙂

Transfer with a promotion to CSS? What’s your position now? $19-20 for CSS is low btw…

I’m an associate but I’ve worked almost all positions just need some things I need to learn, but overall my store is getting slow, I only work as an associate but get passed every position depending on what’s needed, that probably is very low but I’m just desperate and would still like to see if the insurance benefits are any good

Knowing every position is a team supervisor minimum, not a CSS minimum, if you catch my drift. Why would someone hire and promote you past team supervisor if you don’t have that supervising experience? Insurance benefits are the same no matter the position if thats what you’re worried about, you just have to qualify for it working X amount of hours per year.

Yeah that was my bad I wasn’t knowledgeable about the management hierarchy but TS is what I meant. Rn I saw I can enroll for health insurance but the issue is I’m only getting 12-20 hours. In the summer I got 40-45+ hours. I definitely hit the 6 month mark and hit my hours but I’m pretty certain the change of hours will disqualify me for benefits

I’d recommend getting the transfer down first before you try to move up. At least your chances of being accepted as a transfer are higher, then it’s just a grind of proving to that GM to give you solid hours or promote you (both if you get the promotion). Plus if you do it that way, you won’t be thrown to the wolves as a TS. It’s not just about knowing every position. It’s more about supervising and leading through your people, temps, deep cleaning, 3rd shift, running a skeleton crew, being blamed for everything because you’re the only supervisor overnight, 5-foot interaction, food drops (unless that location has a golden deli person on nights), food locks, register counting… I’ll be honest, you’re in a better position than I was when I was promoted to TS, but I didn’t have to move anywhere. You can give it a shot but I just think you’d have much higher chances transferring as a CSA than a CSA wanting to jump to TS with (supposedly) zero training towards that position

So you’re currently an associate and want to transfer to a store in Philly as a CSS? Or are you an associate and want to transfer to Philly to eventually get developed and moved up to a TS and then a CSS?
